Radar says it should be moderate snow/sleet right now. Just had a look. Pretty much nothing falling from the sky whatsoever. Underwhelming. -

Now... should I bring the rabbits inside? I've left them out in their hutch with -5°C overnight a few times lately, but I'm wondering whether the next week might be a big too much for them. They are born and bred in Durham, though, so...

TBF I've just looked at the temp charts on GFS. Phenomenal. Sub zero (and significantly so) for the whole country pretty much for 10 days. Everywhere will end up white.

Folk on know on the North Downs in Kent are expecting 50cm. Now that WILL cause jealousy! Because that's a different level of experience from 10-15cm!

One reason why shower activity is not forecast to be as good as we hoped is because the convergence zones that had been appearing in the N Sea on the fax charts have now disappeared.

I am getting a BIT concerned that so many forecasts are not predicting anything much for here. In 2018 and previous great years, I don't recall forecasts consistently and this close to the event forecasting so little.

Parts of EA and Kent forecast to be at 50cm of lying snow by Wednesday. Might be time to tune out of the media to avoid severe bouts of envy!

Every run suggests EA is getting the best of it here. Should we be seeing the convection as being THAT underplayed? Could we be talking similar levels?

Yes. I'm afraid so. The 'and I'll sort you out' element was implied - but in the context of an argument, saying I can find where you live is unlikely to be so that you can give the fella a handshake and offer to buy him a pint!

I never go in the MOD thread. I spend most of my time on TWO, but when winter conditions arise I prefer my NE family: we're all focused on the same thing. What's the ECM look like for us?

I can't recall all forecasts being quite this underwhelming only then to give way to a huge snowfest tbh. That's what concerns me.

I know I'm often the voice of doom and gloom, but the way this is going I can see ours being one of the regions with least snow. EA, SE, Mids will all get something really big. We'll have a couple of inches.

I'm not entirely convinced. The models have been showing EA to get the best stuff for a while. I understand about convection here, but it's never a sure thing. The stuff further south is. They're in a much better position at this stage than we are.

My rule of thumb is: downgrade is good news for us.

After a good 24-36 hours on Sun/Mon, the 06z is poor - rain comes in shortly after and it's all washed away. Hm.
