And the worst thing is that by the looks of it the far S will get what the mids had this weekend, so LITERALLY the only region in the UK to miss out on this historic event.. will be us. I'm afraid this will make what we got in 2010 look like a pretty sorry runner's up prize.
Barely a dusting in Durham... 10 minutes drive away (Road to Tow Law from Quebec), I got as far as this, before the road became unmanageable in a normal-tyred car. The Pennines proper must be awesome... and imagine what this would have been like had the front actually hit us!
If you just right click, copy and paste that can work. I SOOOOO want to see them!!
No pressure, but the reputation of the region as a snowfest depends on you TVS.
Am I right in thinking that these spectacular conditions in the Pennines will still be intact on Thursday? I'm off to Oxford for a few days and by the looks of it this needs more than Sunday morning to see properly.
Cheers Mark! I might do a circuit from Stanhope to Middleton and then back Durham via Woodland and Toft Hill... the Stanhope/Middleton road OK tomorrow morning you reckon? I need to catch a train to Oxford at 2:30pm so I can't run the risk of being caught in drifts!
So what you mean is, we will still have cold weather but yet again we'll miss out on the snow.
Sorry, but how is this good news, Gavin? You can't even put it down to your liking for mild weather!
If you want to see some epic snow - way above Dec 2010 at low levels at least - look at:

and this post in particular (from NE Wales)

Or, to put it another way, poor model output this morning for anyone who wants some spring warmth or who desperately needs to get going with sowing, gardening, etc..
I know how you feel... however, at no point did any BBC forecast or model show anything different. The only METO forecast showing snow was the 5-dayers with symbols, and they are rubbish.
I'm planning a family trip to see some proper snow tomorrow morning... any suggestions? I was thinking of Stanhope up to Wakersley, or possibly Stanhope to Middleton... I'm assuming there are some great depths... but any idea of the roads will be passable?
Looking at the models I think we need to get ready to be "that region" that misses out on what will become an historic March. A foot now for mids/N, and lots for the S to come... end of next week, a lot for the S especially... nothing here. Gonna be tough to take.
Yep. Despite having a very good number of decent falls and depths (7-8" the best here), for low-lying areas of the NE this has been a winter where we've had to sit back and watch a number of severe events pass us by, often missing us by 20 miles or so. Very frustrating.
I'll admit the big blob to our south looks like it might hit.. more so for the Pennines as there is a slight SE to NW movement. That said, it doesn't look particularly potent.
