Do you still use Monkspath for your readings or have you your own equipment?
Are you on the Wyndley Garden Centre side of Knowle? because I have noticed many times in the past, that it doesn't have laying snow when we do here, I put it down to the height effect on the south side of Knowle. If both are correct it seems incredible that we can get a consistent difference of 1.3C at 3 miles apart at virtually the same height.

Hi MIA,
Yes I still use Monkspath. Not sure what other ones are available locally. It's a good site, but it does tend (in my opinion) to very slightly overcook temps by between 1°C to 2°C or so, compared to what folk are reporting on here. Having said that, it often tallies up with Birmingham Airport.
I'm on the opposite side of Knowle, near to Copt Heath Golf Course

It's finally stopped raining here. No more to come, looking at the radar. 11.00 mm since midnight.
With temperatures forecast to drop below freezing tonight, there could be some serious issues with ice.
Temp is currently 4.9°C with a Dp of 4.3°C

Ugh, what a dreary day. Zero chance of snow here, just rain, rain, rain.
Looking at the webcams across the region, even Buxton is a snow-free zone right now.
Temp currently 4.6°C with a Dp of 3.9°C

Birmingham Airport is lower that Birmingham city centre it's self, me 121m
B' Airport 341 ft / 104 m
B' Central 459ft / 140m
Just realised I'm a full one meter higher than you, DWW
Makes all the difference in these marginal setups!

Interesting that other posters are reporting how slippery it is - just popped out for a quick stroll & almost ended up on my backside three times inside the first two minutes. Mission aborted!
Currently 0.2°C

A rather underwhelming overnight low of just -1.4°C here, rubbish compared to some of the other lows recorded in the region last night. The temp seemed to zig-zag either side of 0°C all night.
It's been a strange feature of this winter so far, the reluctance of the temperature to drop significantly in seemingly ideal conditions.

-1.4°C here right now, fingers crossed I'll get below last nights -2.9°C
Whatever happened to Triple_X1 aka Nitro_Deluxe? No sign of him recently, in fact all of his posts have disappeared too? Sad, he was a good poster.

I thought there was a potential snow event over this coming w/e, or maybe it has disappeared from the charts now? I think Frosty posted some snow charts yesterday or perhaps the day before.
First I've heard of it, picog.
In terms of a sustained cold - and therefore potentially snowy - spell, I don't think there is anything on the radar for at least the next ten days.

When is the next snow event?
Not for a while, I fear. The model outputs currently suggest the first week or two of January will most likely be Atlantic-driven i.e. mild(ish), wet & windy.
Plenty of time left for things to change, however! The January 2013 cold spell arrived at fairly short notice.

Min temp overnight was -4.2C with a dewpoint of -6.7C

I managed an overnight low of -2.9°C here, coldest night since late March.
Very hard frost this morning!

Amazing pics & videos - I really must look into moving to Derbyshire someday! What are the house prices like there?

I have family in Kegworth, which is fairly nearby. Apparently they had almost two inches of snow, and the roads were treacherous.
I suspect two inches might be a slight exaggeration, but the whole area received quite a lot of snow last night.

still dregs of snow about, 0.3C now, cold lasting until around new years day, then our usual weather wind and rain lasting through whole of Jan, are we not due a decent Feb? the last decent Feb here was '09
The first ten days or so of February 2012 were very cold, and gave most of us at least one good dumping of snow.
The rest of the month was gash though.

Nice to see PolarWarsaw got some good snowfall, he's had some rotten luck in recent winters.
The temperature seems to be dropping very rapidly now, down from 4.1°C to 3.0°C inside the past thirty minutes. Could be extremely icy in the morning.

Looking at the radar, it seems the 'pivot point' was South Yorkshire rather than Central areas.
Oh well! It was nice to see even a bit of snow falling during Christmas Week, even if most of it ended up being washed away within a few hours. I just wish the models were a bit more inspiring for the start of Jan than they seem to be right now.

Absolutely bucketing it down right now - heavy rain.

The good news - we have at least a cm or two of lying snow here on the lawns, pavements etc
The bad news - it seems to have turned to a mixture of sleet & rain
Temp 1.7°C Dp 0.9°C

It does look to be moving quickly. Is there anything behind the current band? I'm driving home from Coventry to Solihull after an ice hockey game tonight around 9pm - do we think this is going to be disruptive in that area?
I can't imagine things will get too dicey here, but you never know. I think the heavier ppn is due from mid-evening onwards.
First spots of rain here

It seems to be shooting through rather quicker than expected. At this rate, the backedge will have cleared the west of the region by mid-evening?
Currently 4.1°C with a Dp of 2.5°C
