  1. When I checked first thing this morning, my local weather station had a forecast for Solihull of 'Rain turning to snow' for this afternoon and 'Heavy snow' for this evening and overnight. It's now changed to 'Rain mixed with occasional snow' for both forecasts..........right on the borderline here, I reckon.

    Good luck everyone!

  3. Yes Picog I envisaged that you live in a frost hollow, our village is also very prone and from time to time coldest (unoffical) spot in the UK, narrowly pipping Trawsgoed and Sennybridge!

Just had a brief wander around Llanwnnen courtesy of Google Street View. Nice part of the world you live in, Tony.

  4. Temp dropped to -4.5C last night. Still frosty this morning despite some cloud coming in during the night. So far it has been a bright day with some pleasant winter sunshine.

There must have been some big regional differences last night - we only managed a low of 1.1°C

    Currently 6.7°C with hazy sunshine.

  5. I started reminiscing about the January 2013 event earlier, after I posted the icicles picture. A classic example of how the models can very suddenly switch, once they pick up a signal. Also scene of Ian Brown's hilarious 'WTF' post

The March 2013 snowfall was just as memorable, not least because it nipped in the bud this ridiculous notion that, once mid-February is passed, it becomes virtually impossible for snow to remain on the ground for any length of time due to the power of the sun. Utter tripe, but it was wheeled out with tiresome predictability by the usual suspects in the Model Discussion thread.

  6. Just to whet the appetite, here is an amazing picture taken in Knowle during the January 2013 cold spell.

Following a period of heavy rain, the passing cars splashed water onto a roadside hedge. Once the freezing air arrived shortly afterwards, these amazing icicles were formed:

  7. Good to hear it's nothing too serious MIA. I work at Solihull Hospital, I guarantee you will be very well looked after there :)

The rain seems to have eased somewhat, for the time being anyway. Temp is now 6.1°C with a dp of 5.2°C

  8. Pouring here again to, some really squally showers last night, hovering around 5c at the mo though feels colder with the intensity of the rain.

I wonder if evaporative cooling might come into effect at some stage? It certainly seems to be coming down hard enough.

  9. Was woken up at 06:30 this morning by the sound of torrential rain lashing against the roof. Quickly blew through however.

    Currently 4.1°C with scattered clouds.

PS good luck with the scans MIA, nothing too serious I hope.

  10. Bar the odd flake here and there if we happen to be in a decent Pm slot I would say 90% certain yes Bish.

What are your thoughts/expectations re January onwards, Tony? Or do you generally not look that far ahead as a rule?

  11. Could anyone give me a link to the gfs? I used to have to have all the models bookmarked (gawd knows why, I can't interpret them to any great degree!), but I've lost my bookmarks somehow.

On a serious note, imagine what the forum would be like if we started seeing charts like this soon!

  12. A quick update for the LRF fans with the CFS continuing it's blocked theme for January with a general broadscale pattern of low heights in the Mediterranean Basin and a Sceuro HP migrating into a Scandi HP with a generally cold easterly feed.....I'll continue to be watching this with interest

At risk of sounding terribly thick, but can somebody please enlighten me as to what the term "Sceuro" means?

    Scandi Euro?

    Southern/Central Euro?
