REF, PHOTO/JANUARY 21st 2013/FIRST PHOTO.
BISH.....Seeing a member of my family later for a birthbay get together, if i could take that with me all i'd need is the candles.
Im at -0.5 and stopped snowing.
I've been meaning to ask you, where do you take your temp measurements for Solihull from? I get mine from Monkspath Weather Station, but I'd love to know if there is another round these parts.
PS enjoy the birthday bash

PPN starting to pep up slightly to our south east perhaps? The big dry gap seems to be filling in.
Bah, my ice day has gone, currently a sweltering 0.2c

Here is a pictorial comparison with other Midlands snow events of recent times, using the highly scientific method of comparing snow depths captured on a small table outside our back windows:
January 9th 2010
February 21st 2010
December 18th 2010
February 5th 2012
January 21st 2013
February 11th 2013
March 24th 2013
I should point out that, as you can see from the pics, this table is pretty well sheltered on two sides (south and east facing).

Amazingly, parts of the lowland Midlands likely to have an Ice Day today, almost unprecedented in the last week of March. Yesterday was the coldest March day since 1947 at Bablake with a high of +0.2c!
Yep, we're well on course for an ice day here, fingers crossed. Still only -0.8c at the moment.

What are the main roads like in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire?
Midlands Ice Age
Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near those areas right now MIA. Too risky over higher ground, of which there would be plenty.

ihatethesnow - are you going to include the past few days in your auto-signature? I'm not sure if this counts towards winter 2012/13, seeing as we're into spring now.

Well, I wasn't expecting this at all! Lots of tiny flakes coming down at moderate intensity, and really blowing around in the wind
Temp -1.1c, DP -2.5c

Forgot to mention, my sky went off aswell earlier havent checked if its back yet this has happened to alot of people around this area
Yep, my Sky reception has been down for much of the past 36hrs. Haven't been able to watch the cricket - blessing in disguise.

For when?
The second chart that Phil posted a short while ago, for early Tuesday (26th) afternoon. Almost the entire regain is under 850's of -10.
Bish

Am I reading those charts correctly - minus 12 upper air temps?????

Looking at the radar, I can't quite see the east-to-west movement some folk are reporting?

Steady snow here for the past couple of hours, although getting lighter now. Temp -0.2c, DP -1.2c
I reckon the East Midlands is going to get a pasting tonight - good luck guys!
Bish

Seems to be moving in a NE direction slowly though!
Not sure I agree with that wilbur? Looks to me like it's moving slowly north westwards?

The PPN seems to be organising itself very nicely to the south and the east. It's even suddenly pepped up over London
Bish

That stuff from the SE is heading straight this way.
Ahhhhh but don't forget about the Rugby snow shield!
Bish
-
It's started snowing here again as well
Temp 0.2c, DP -0.7c

Crazy stuff
That is truly astonishing footage, cheers for sharing the link with us. I hadn't appreciated Cumbria had been so badly hit
Bish

Hmmm interesting.............the PPN to our SE is really starting to pep up once again.

Looking forward to seeing your pics - would love to be in Derbyshire right now
If I ever move away from the Solihull area, I'd be very tempted to relocate to the Peak District or perhaps the Malvern Hills i.e. the snowiest areas of the Midlands.
Either that, or the Scottish Highlands!

After briefly peaking a couple of hours ago at 1.2c, the temperature seems to be falling away again now. Currently 0.6c with a DP of -0.5c
Can't see any further snow here for a few hours at least however - hopefully the PPN currently to our NE will gradually sink southwards.
Bish

Still snowing quite hard, even though the radar suggests it should only be very light by now.
A huge dry spot has developed to the SE of the region by the looks of things.

It stopped snowing here a while ago, and we have even had one or two brief glimpses of very hazy sunshine.
