Those videos earlier in the thread featuring the sonic boom are genuinely incredible - cheers for sharing!

This seems far more serious than first reported - now the lead story on many news websites.
Strange, I was reading about Tunguska this morning as it was linked to an article on the BBC site re the asteroid passing near to us overnight.

Very heavy rain overnight means hardly any snow is left this morning, just a few patches here & there.
Looking forward to seeing some sunshine today

Lashing it down here, can hear it against the window. Oddly enough, the radar suggests nothing over at the moment.

Don't forget me Supacell x
And me as well - we'll let Supacell do all the driving!

A very scary, but secretly i enjoyed it, drive home.
You're on your own there I'm afraid, Supacell. As much as I love the white stuff, I find driving in it absolutely draining - very stressful.
It'll feel quite odd to finally see Mr Sunshine over the next few days, hardly seen it at all the past few weeks.

Still snowing persistently, although there may be a bit of sleet mixed in as well now.
Dew point has just risen above zero for the first time in ages - not long to go perhaps.

We had one burst a few minutes ago which was pretty close to blizzard conditions. Still coming down hard.
Temp 0.8c, DP -0.1c

Wow, somebody just switched on the snow machine - fairly belting it down now!
Beautiful to watch.

Serendipity - difficult to tell from where I'm sat, most of the surfaces I can see were already well covered with the snow from Sunday evening.

Coming down again now, quite impressive intensity
Looks like I won't be going out at lunch to walk off last nights pancakes!

Current temp is now 0.9c with a DP of -0.1c

Coming down again now, although lighter than before.
Looks like some beefy stuff heading our way from out west however.

Small flakes coming down pretty heavily now. Great to watch (even though I'm at work lol).
Temp is 0.8c with a DP of -0.5c

Some flakes falling now. Fingers crossed for a few hours of white gold before the rains come.
Good luck everybody!

I think all areas north of Birmingham are the places to be today. Our Staffs and Derbyshire posters will be very happy methinks
Not much going on here - a few flakes after nine, but nothing else so far.

Anyweather, you are correct on that one. I have seen snow in May whilst walking on the tops of the Peaks and round here most people know of the infamous snowfall in Buxton that caused a cricket match to be cancelled.... in June (June 1975)! By that time I am wanting warmth and thunderstorms though!
Derbyshire vs Lancashire, Buxton, June 2nd 1975 - snow stopped play:

Great wasn't it (if rather transient)
A wonderful couple of days. Daytime snow events always seem more dramatic to watch unfold. IIRC, the snow on the second day wasn't forecast until just before the event.
Although yes, it was all gone shortly afterwards.
Feb 2007 was the first 'proper' Midlands snow event I'd followed on the net, via NW and of course the Met Office radar. I remember thinking I was going to get into big trouble at work for inappropriate internet usage (I didn't), but I just couldn't help myself lol. I clearly remember watching on the radar as this huge area of PPN gradually worked it's way towards us.

Does anyone think Wednesday's potential could be the same as the Feb 2007 event (think it was the 8th)?
Wow, let's hope so! That was a wonderful event here, and broke a spell lasting at least six or seven years without any significant winter snow.

Moderate snow here once again!
Bish

Yes it's coming down quite nicely here as well. Not heavy, but quite big flakes mixed in.
Literally the icing on the cake
Bish

Bish, I tweeted one of your photos hope you don't mind, the third one!
That's fine Tony
Hmmm, even though the radar isn't showing much, it appears to be snowing moderately again here

Meteor shower in Chelyabinsk, Central Russia
in Space, Science & nature
Posted
A couple more clips featuring that extraordinary sonic boom:
"Clips of the Chelyabinsk, Russia meteor's multiple shockwaves. Wait for them and crank up your speakers. The first two have sound but the last few really have none. The last few show some of the damage caused by the meteor's shockwaves including a severly damaged brick building with bricks laying in the street. This meteor that exploded over Chelyabinsk on February 15, 2013 injured over 500 people and caused widespread damage."
