So let me get this straight: Shropshire, the snowless capital of the UK, is seeing heavy snow whereas Solihull is merely seeing heavy sleety rain??!
Some sort of MAJOR malfunction going on right now!!!

Quite heavy rain and gusty winds here now. This is the Atlantic winning on it's 4th attempt to break down the cold. That's pretty good going I reckon! Nothing to be sad about at all!
Yes that's the best way of looking at it I guess. Always disappointing to be on the wrong side of a marginal event however, especially one with so much potential.

Look again Bish - great big snowflakes mixed in with the sleet now!
Blimey, yes you're right!!! I take it back

Rain here too..........yawn

Heavy rain here at the moment, with lots of sleet as well.

I'm sure I just heard a rumble of thunder????

Sleety rain here at the moment - fingers crossed for some evaporative cooling later on

Temperature starting to slightly edge upwards here............now 0.7c, up from 0.3c an hour ago. DP is -0.3c

A few flakes blowing about in the gusty wind at the moment. Those of us south & east of Brum might have to wait a while for the white stuff.
Temp is 0.4c, DP is -1.0c

But my only request of you tonight... PICTURES!
I'll get on the case as soon I can get to my normal PC

Did anybody else notice that, up until a short while ago, a certain Glacier Point was viewing our thread for several minutes? Would love to hear his opinions.
Mind you, I don't blame him for not posting - viewing this thread for the first time must feel like walking into the middle of a chimpanzees tea party!

Mild rainy uppers covering the whole region on GFS hmm, NAE a bit better however..probably just best to keep watch out the window at this stage.
Not looking to good though here, up to 1.5c now.
What's your dew point, Conor? This is the most important thing to keep our eyes on, so long as the temp doesn't creep much above current levels.

NAE suggests it could be fun but looks like ul av to be up late. Heaviest precip between midnight and 3am
Good job it's a Friday night then - none of us have to worry about work in the morning
Nowt here so far, although I'm not expecting anything for quite a while yet. We did however have a very brief flurry, with biggish flakes, around midday.
Current temp here is 1.1c (down from a midday high of 2.3c), and the all-important DP is a very healthy -1.8c

just get on the bloody train!!!!
*snigger*

And so, the end is near........
Folks, make the most of whatever snow you have on the ground at the moment, 'cos it ain't gonna be around for much longer
Current temp is -0.5, although we reached a high of 2.3 just after midday.

Lol - no think you may be underestimating if anything.....!
Still 9" of snow on the back lawn, despite any thaw.
Huge big flakes fluttering down at the moment - anyone have a clue how long these flurries might gone on for today?
lol my brother just told me I've completely underestimated the depth as well....
The PPN to our south east seems to be pepping up slightly, so there might be some more on the way

So whats peoples overall depths today considering this is really the last lot albeit a little Friday maybe?
Have most finished near 20cm, some near 30cm Has intermittent thaws and regular snow kept the snow level at a similar figure?
It's really difficult to say, because of the internittent thaws you mentioned.
I would estimate that here in Knowle we have had, since last Thursday afternoon, around ten inches of snowfall, but never with more than about six or seven inches on the ground at any one time.
It'll be interesting to hear what my nearest NW neighbours - Diagonal Red Line and Fizz - think about my estimate. I might be guilty of measuring via man-inches!!!

It stopped snowing here about half an hour ago or so. Overall I think we have added another 5cm's since last night, which is very respectable.
Bit of a thaw going on here now however, temp is +0.6 with a DP -0.6

Still steadily coming down here - lovely
Bish

Absolutely belting it down here at the moment, didn't see this coming! Big flakes as well
Great stuff - unexpected snow is always the most fun.

Woke up this morning to find another couple of cm's or so fell overnight. Indeed it was still snowing up until thirty minutes ago.
Temp is -0.2, DP is -0.6

Wow Worcestershire and Herefordshire seem to be getting a real blasting so far tonight

Not seen a flake here even though the radar reckons we've had pulses of moderate stuff over us. Looks like for once this cold spell... Leicester's luck has ran out
Bad luck bro. Agreed that the radar has been a bit misleading for some places tonight.
