and for my location, just light snow now all day
Still showing as Heavy for Solihull on Friday. Saturday now shows as Light Snow, whereas previously it was just Cloudy.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Plus, light snow for an entire day will still accumulate nicely.

C'mon everybody, do the right thing and vote for togetherness
Imagine Laurel without Hardy!
Imagine Shearer without Sheringham!
Imagine England without Scotland!
Imagine Gough without Caddick!
Imagine Cameron without Osborne!
You know it makes sense........

Yeah, I live on the border and am not entirely sure where to post stuff?? lol.
You do realise that in my location, this would probably be the first 'snow on snow on snow for over 22 years?
This spell has already beat 2010 for snow and the temperature of -17'c isn't that far off either, but I'd much rather the snow
Where you're located, you pretty much swing both ways depending on your mood - hey you can be the Midlands equivalent of Freddie Mercury

One more day closer...and it still looks good, if anything it looks better today.
The Met Office and BBC did so well for their forecast here last Monday...please let them be right again!
Let's see where we are this time tomorrow. Could still be taken away from us at this range.
Erk, don't say things like that Gord! But I know what you mean, we've all been here before haven't we? Although not necessarily with such favourable looking synoptics.
I've been trying to work out what the worst case scenario could be. If the snow ends up pushing much, much further eastwards than is currently forecast, then I guess a lot of us could end up with a snow-to-rain event, albeit the snow part lasting for several hours.
On the other hand, if the snow generally stalls to our south and west, at least we'd stay under the much colder air for longer, which would improve our chances further down the line (Monday is starting to look very interesting as well now). I think I'd take this scenario overall, although I suspect I'd be in a minority.

Well shuggee came back to me earlier today to say that apparently the requests supporting the split Midlands threads currently outweigh those asking for a remerger. I have to say I'm surprised, as that wasn't quite the impression I'd gained over the past couple of days, but hey ho
I've asked shuggee if he would still consider a poll so we could all get a chance to vote one way or another - let's see what the comeback is.

Il be disappointed with 20cm to be honest !!
Now how many times have I been able to say that?!!
You could be in for a monstrous amount of snow, all that juicy Cotswolds elevation
PS how come you ended up moving there from Solihull? I'm very envious, such a beautiful part of the country to live in.

Well, the (slightly mad?) Accuweather snow prediction for me for Friday is.............. 22cm!!
Is it time to deactivate the Knowle & Solihull Snow Shield yet, fizz?
We'll get Diagonal Red Line to do all the hardest work of course

BBC weather now showing the heavy snow symbol for Friday, first time I've seen that for ages.
Same here for Solihull as well, a very rare sight.
The Met Office/BBC forecasts do tend to chop & change several times a day however.

It's actually getting colder here now, down to -4.3C with a DP of -5.0C. Freezing fog showing no sign of shifting.
It's c-c-c-c-cold!!!!
Bish

Anyone else in the midlands having moderate snizzle at the moment?
Freezing fog here, temperature is still as low as -4 at the moment. Possible ice day for parts of the Midlands perhaps.

Looking better now I think, bbc shows it as well, but shows rain moving in Sunday night at -2, long way off
Do you mean 2 in the morning or -2 temps? The latter would surely fall as snow I would have thought.

Sorry everybody, but the Friday snow event is officially not happening...........I've booked Friday afternoon off in anticipation, which is bound to put the kybosh on things!
If it doesn't happen for us Midlanders, you'll know who to blame

I think it should definitely be merged if we in the West Midlands are likely to get more snow than those in the east. It would be very tedious to have to keep going over there to gloat.
lol that made me laugh!
I've just sent a quick PM to shuggee asking if he might consider re-introducing a single Midlands thread in future
Bish

Good grief just look at these minimum temperatures for Saturday night!!!!
Should probably taken with a pinch of salt however, the GFS is notorious for over emphasising extremes.
Bish
-
I wonder if we can get the Midlands thread as one again if that event for Friday remains on the cards? It will be much more exciting if they are merged again, the whole of the Midlands would be in for a good snow event IF what the GFS 12z is predicting actually happens.
I second that motion! Much better to have one main Midlands thread - I've genuinely missed having the likes of yourself, Supacell etc keeping us company the past few days.

The local Met Office forecast had Solihull down for a max temp of 1.0C today.........currently reading 5.1C and still climbing.
Looks beautiful outside

Our side road was very icey this morning , but I think the main roads are okay ?
Anybody else like to confirm that.
Yes, that pretty much seems to be the case. Nothing too extreme

Wow there's a whole lotta negativity going on here tonight......
Relax guys! This is just the start of what may well turn out to be another prolonged cold spell, one of several over the past few winters - plenty more snow opportunities to come over the next few days & weeks, especially if high pressure exerts an influence to our north or north-east, as is being forecast. Even an Atlantic breakdown may well be snowy for several hours, think how special that would be.
Don't lose faith! Chin up! Think positive thoughts! Keep the lamplight burning! :-)

Friday could potentially get exciting here. A frontal system looks like it will undercut the block forcing cold south easterly winds. Met Office as snow symbols even at Lands End! Gusty winds forecast too. If this doesn't alter much, I could actually see Blizzard conditions!!!
I think I just found the flaw in your plan!

Lovely sunshine here, but a pretty major thaw going on as well. Lot's of drip-drip-dripping. Whatever snow manges to survive may well be around for quite a few days, so the warmer temperatures can b*gger off now thank you very much.
Current temp is 4.7C, with a DP of 4.0C

Ermm - can I just vote against it?
If there's a snow band travelling west to east or vice versa, its useful to be able to track its progress across the country by other members' reports of what's happening where they are.
And now, it also seems to be a lot less lively thread.........
Yes, I agree. A single Midlands thread should suffice, it will be a lot more enjoyable as well.

The snow stopped in Solihull shortly after eleven. Equated to about an hour & a half of pretty heavy snow, although much of it didn't quite stick to the wetter surfaces.
Temp is now 0.7C, with a DP of 0.1C

Should nt you be in the East Midlands?
Rugby is more West than East, surely? I always equate Warwickshire with the West Midlands.
