  1. Bloomin eck! That was loud! Woken by insanely loud thunder which seemed to rumble on for 15-20 seconds in one go! Incredibly loud!
  2. That’sa good point. Of course warmer water will help storms too in some respects. I did hear people saying that with Warmer summers storms become less frequent due to drier landmass and not enough moisture. A few years ago was really strange over Spain. I was listening to podcast or something and they were talking about how there was a low-pressure over Spain but it was so dry. There was actually no moisture to be sucked up so the skies were just clear dry and blue when they should’ve been storms due to the lack of moisture at the surface. So run-off storms from ocean to land could become more intense, and yet in-line storms, we could become less frequent if land becomes drier here in the UK. We do often see a lot of rain after long dry periods, and somehow it always seems to balance out so there will always be moisture at sometimes I guess.
  3. I have always had an interest in sea temperatures, as they don’t seem to have generally changed too much over the decades around our part of the world in comparison to a hotter summers we are experiencing. So it’s interesting with your observations today. I am really surprised that at this range is only 12 to 14 for mid june normally, but maybe with all the warm fine sunny weather we have had the sea has not mixed so much as it’s been stagnant and often flat as a pancake so warm up as opposed to drawing up colder temperatures from deeper down due to less water turbulence. I think the warmest temperatures of the year for the channel would probably be around September October, or imagine due to the lag affect. So maybe this year could get to 21 or 22 down in the channel on the coasts? I wonder what the warmest of a water temperature around Bournemouth, Poole etc has beem.
  4. “The southerly arm of the jet does look the more influential player and it would be quite exceptional to see it held in its current position throughout June. I completely agree with you. That would be exceptional for sure. If only that pattern would come off in the winter. Is amazing to see the forecast for a Greenland high in June being so influential. I’ll be amazed if that comes off. There is a slack flow and instability in the northern flow then with the strength of the sunshine at this time of year expected a fair few funnel clouds popping up. I have seen this multiple times over the years…..
  5. Hope you don’t mind DB but that first photo is stunning. Phones often over blow the light soo i reduced it for you. Great photo you took.
  6. Thanks to the person who gave the rainfall. Total updates about a place called Newton.. at last count I think it was in the 60s millimetres I wonder how much they have had now?
  7. Good morning and apologies for intruding on your thread but I just wondered if anyone could help. i’m wanting to bring my son over for some sledging fun as we weren’t fortunate enough to do any even though we had 7 cm of snow and rain and was all slushy and miserable. so I said I would take him over to Wales for the day. Can anyone recommend some good sledging hills. Bearing in mind we’re coming from Somerset so don’t really want to go to North Wales as that will be quite a trek. when I googled it a place kept coming up saying Corey arms. We could go there but that’s still a bit further is there anything closer in Wales to Bristol direction that’s got a good snow covering and some good hills to sledge down. really appreciate any good suggestions you can come up with. and once again apologies for intruding on your thread. I normally post in the south-west due to our locality. and I wish you will get some good fresh falls of snow Many Thanks
  8. Evening everyone, Just after a little help if possible. I’m wanting to take my son sledding tomorrow and wondered which places have snow left? i was considering a place called Corey Arms which kept cropping up on the net. I’m based in Frome and wondered if there was anything closer and also a good hill please. Thank you
  9. Think the welsh mountains will suck the life out of that band as normally happens when coming in from a northwest direction.
  10. Morning everyone glad so many have got snow even down south which is great for snow lovers. how about 3 cm here at the moment snowing steadily with small to moderate flakes really hoping it lasts until I get back from Downton later today I just want to get a couple of sledge runs in with my lad
  11. slightly off topic but your avatar is brilliant. out of the whole series my favourite episode was the penultimate one. I battling the ice dragons as well as all the resurrected zombies/demons.
  12. Evening Warmintim, funny you should mention that has a few years ago I was looking out from Frome over to Clay Hill and it was raining cats and dogs where I was.but you could see Cley was white. what was astonishing was that the snow line was right at the base of the hill and yet the surrounding fields were all green and the whole landscape green and a snow line was literally as it went through the gate up to 3 or four steps to the base of the hill that’s where the snow line started. It was just a very light covering at the base and yet at the top was a good 4-5 inches of snow so I had a good sledge. Was so bizarre being a top of the hill and looking out across the landscape which was completely green and there we were at the top of the hill in quite thick snow I shall never forget that memory. It really is so fine isn’t it the snow lines.
  13. Hi Fromey, that’s really surprising as it felt really cold out there unless it’s just the effect of going from a warm house to outside but to me does feel very cold. Will be surprised if it’s just rain or sleet but then again that has happened before when we were at zero once I remember it raining. fingers crossed it’s not rain or sleet
  14. Hi Nights King, I just put my head outside the front door to wave goodbye to my son and it was really cold cold and it’s been for some time. it was quite confusing earlier in the day because we had quite a bit of moderate wet snow on and off but never did it feel that cold to me really. I know sometimes people say it warms up before it snows but I felt to mild for snow and now it’s much colder out there I don’t think it will start off as late as forecast but instead start office now or at least I’m hoping so. for you though 100m asl I think has a great chance. I want to how many metres Westbury Whitehorse hill is above sea level as I often go up there and play football with my boy. I’m imagining it’s probably 150-or 200m asl. good luck everyone that wants to see the white stuff hope you all get it Are used to work in test Valley live just off Millbrook Road and the difference in the weather was phenomenal. I remember us working on Romsey estate and it started snowing so heavy and settling everyone got sent home and yet when I got back down the M27 it was just raining onto Millbrook Road.
  15. I have to go to Westbury in the morning first thing leave my car then down to Downton. Then back to Westbury to collect it then back to Frome . Agree with you it will be very interesting to see come what May.
  16. Can’t believe i have to go to work on site tomorrow. Long drive to salisbury, maybe rain there possible sleet back up here changing to snow at times through the day so roads should be ok as expecting slush more than powder.
  17. Just started snowing here in Froome not particularly heavy but definitely snowing moderate sized flakes
  18. Fair play to you Nick. A forecasters nightmare for sure but keep up the good work and great headlines writeups and posts in the thread.
  19. I also think part of the problem is the strong Iberian high-pressure which is helping force the PV Westwards.if the high-pressure wasn’t so strong maybe that lobe of PV could have dropped further Southwards. still time for things to change though as per the net weather update earlier today when I mentioned snow event for the south Mid week.
