Well I'm saying i was stunned ..it did rain and for a while too, actually put window wipers on and got puddles and everything ,monsoon for us here ,but thats our lot for a while i guess and getting warmer and for a lot longer this time it says , not boiling.like 40c odd but a run at 25-30c ,and dry too
And for once I was happy it was damp squib of a day
There was a whole area of rain showing from Brighton toward South London. It moved eastward and the bottom half just disappeared leaving rain for you, Maidstone, Faversham.
I was in Dungeness, drove back to Ashford… nothing but dust and and brown grass. Now the sun is out.Not complaining as I love summer and am not keen on rain normally but it is like a desert out there.
It’s really as if someone picked up SE Kent and dumped it somewhere between LA and San Diego!

And once again… not a drop of rain in the Kent desert!

Gfs charts this morning show above 25c in south east right to the end of the run, Sunday could hit 30 again, the following weekend showing low 30s again, plenty more warmth ahead
Yep and… no rain in the SE.

Temps down to 18 degrees. No measurable rain so the East Kent desert continues to be in place. Nice light show though!
Looking ahead, mid to high 20s in the reliable and FI. No rain other than trace amounts, even on the automated model-based apps.
Distinct smell of smoke in the air this morning which adds to the last 48 hours reminding me of Southern California during a Santa Ana wind event.

Check radar - plenty moving towards us from Kent!
Negative. 2x a couple of minutes of big drops. Not even got the ground wet. Car and garden furniture dry after a few minutes. A few flashes and rumbles. Temp stuck at 26 degrees at local WOW station.

A few big raindrops but the ground is staying dry.

For “fires ‘breaking out’ everywhere” read “fires being started by criminal arsonists everywhere”. I do not believe that fires start unaided just because it’s hot. If I had my way anyone caught starting fires deliberately in these conditions should be locked up for life.
There will be those but I have seen first hand what a small piece of glass can do. I lived in California for a long time.

DARTFORD HEATH update: Fag butt or global warming (or maybe both). You decide. Scary stuff on the A2. Vid: Keith Parsons. https://t.co/ToGRSnSmT6
Or maybe just a piece of glass. Global warming for sure as we would not have these conditions otherwise. This feels like Santa Ana winds in LA.

Wow there are fires breaking out everywhere. 3 alone in Dartford and another on the A2. Trees on side of a road on fire in Ashford earlier and cars damaged.
Scary stuff.

Nothing wrong with excited about extreme weather, that's one of the reasons we are here for. Getting excited about something doesn't translate into wishing harm on anyone. None of us can change the impacts of severe weather but that doesn't mean we can't be fascinated, excited or interested in it.

We need that rain to arrive sooner to help with these fires
No rain coming mate...

Power cuts all over the UKPowernetworks area (SE + London). Two wild fires affecting and burning down houses (Dartford and Wennington). Disrupted water supplies in Kent.
It's all normal

All eyes further north now...probably got a couple of hours left to see how high it can go. Perhaps the gusty wind may prevent something more insane like 42c we could have got on a still day!
For some reason we are still rising. Temp was stuck around 36 for two hours but now up to 37.9 in the last 30 minutes.

Mixed indications for a more changeable interlude in around a week’s time as low pressure chances it from the west. 12z UKMO and GFS op. There could be a good drop of rain on it if it comes far enough south, a few mm reaching southeastern parts too according to the GFS.
A short lived mixed spell possible then, but with good heights to the southwest never too far away and perhaps not yielding that much at all, like with the 12z ECM op, that brings the low through further north and earlier, by day 6, seeing the back of it altogether with it settling down again by day 8.
So maybe, maybe not, a well needed splash before a great summer most likely resumes. 35.2 degrees here today, a new home record that will likely stand for a long time. Today was remarkable, the whole feel of it. No need to head to the Med when the Med comes to us!
I know it will change at one point but every single rain event affecting the SE at day 6+ has vanished for the last few months by the time it gets to day 3, so I have my doubts….

24 hours later GFS is showing this:
UKMO this:
Ok no heatwave but there should still be an awful lot of dry weather about (away from northern and north-westernmost areas) when it was looking anything but a day or two ago. I know longer term modelling can go awry but it is incredible how often this happens lately. Models sniff out an unsettled spell and it gradually or quickly gets removed
This. 100%.
has been the case for months.- 1

For what it's worth, we've just added a degree on the local WOW station after it had been hovering around 33.5 for the last two hours. If the same is happening at the 37+ locations we may just do it.
