  1. There is definately a pattern developing in all the forecast's. They keep getting it wrong and then keep moving the goalposts. We were originally expecting a cold September and that was way out. Then ice and snow in October hey that was way out as well. Now the posts have been moved to the end of November. I bet you I am sitting here on November 25th still waiting for the siberian weather. The weather forecasters will no doubt say "Cold Weather expected in December" One thing is clear their accuracy apart from a small few including the Met office has been rank so far!
  2. The charts are not showing anything of note. Can't believe it's 3rd November and I have not had a ground frost. The Scottish mountains are bare not a sign of snow. We might have to pin our hopes on December for the start of any winter weather. November is just bleak at present.
  3. October is my favourite month. However this last one which was frost free was a real disappointment. Average tempe Oct 2010 Polmont = 9.5c October 2011 = 10.8c oh dear 1.3c up!
  4. If we deal with the facts as they are and not fantasy. Logic would fall on the side of the mild. It's been a mild Sept/Oct. November is extremely mild at present and for the next 10 days at least. There has not been any frost this autumn which is exceptional for early November. If I was going to look at a pattern then it is as plain as the nose on your face. I might not like it but It's better to deal in facts it looks mild all the way through to December!
  5. Need to get the cold uppers for that. The last couple of years it has been 1 or 2c and still raining in Scotland at ground level.Frustrating!
  6. Depends who you believe:Met Office Can't see any cold coming our way! UK Outlook for Wednesday 16 Nov 2011 to Wednesday 30 Nov 2011: Unsettled weather is likely to continue with a generally mild west to southwesterly winds for much of the period. These will bring in bands of rain interspersed with some drier and brighter weather. Temperatures are likely to be around average for the time of year. Rainfall for this period is also likely to be around normal but southwest Wales and parts of southern England could see above average amounts. Sunshine values should be around average but could be above average for Scotland and eastern parts of England. There is likely to be some mist and fog overnight with a risk of frost. 7. People often get confused with Summer Time rather than Summer. When they say Summertime begins it refers to the start of the summer time zone for the clocks. It does not mean the start of summer and it is the same for winter. We were still on summer time until Saturday.does that mean it was summer? Personally I think the seasons are March/April/May Spring - June/Jul/Aug -Summer Sept/Oct/Nov Autumn the whole of December/Jan/Feb Winter. So winter starts at the end of November. Having said that I consider November more of a winter month than an Autumn month.
  8. At the start of August every man and his dog were predicting a cold winter starting in October. Now we are in November and it was 18c yesterday. The rest of November in Scotland looks damp and mild. I am disappointed but not surprised. Hopefully we will get a decent winter maybe starting at the end of December!
  9. Cold winter what cold winter? Not looking good... UK Outlook for Tuesday 15 Nov 2011 to Tuesday 29 Nov 2011: Unsettled weather is likely to continue with a generally mild west to southwesterly winds for much of the period. 10. Yes absolutely I hate this unseasonal weather. There is one thing worse though! When the news presenter turns to the weather person and says: "Good news I hear it is mild". That's usually in December when it's 12c and all the snow is melting on the ski runs. Winter is supposed to be cold. It's like saying in the summer great that it's 10c in June and drizzling.
  11. 16c In Inverness now! This is not natural something weird going on! Average Temperature for October locally 1.2 above last year. November does not look any better. Mild winter anyone?
  12. Just looked at local weather records: Polmont October 2010 average Temp 9.5c and 2011 October average 10.7c .That's 1.2c higher. Also highest temp 2010 = 18c lowest -3c. 2011 highest 20.02c lowest 1.8c. October has been very mild.
  13. 17c .This reminds me of those bland winters in the late 80's early 90's .Can't remember when we had such a mild October must be above average for the month. Awful outlook at present!
  14. Excellent picture brings back memories. We went skiing in November 2007 on the Glacier. Oh I wish I was there.
  15. Probably not what we wanted to here. However you have dealt with the facts and they point to a typical winter. i.e mild, mild, cold interlude mild, mild. Interestingly last February was a disappointment in Scotland as it was snowless and generally mild. So getting a late winter Feb into March would suit me as a skiier. The snow in December was great last year but having a winter that ended in January kind of ruined the ski season. Most folk want to ski in March/April as there is more sun and daylight so a good fall of snow in Feb/March is needed.
  16. The outputs for the next 10 -15 days are mild. Usually there is a blip of cold contained within the models even if the general pattern is mild. But on the current models 8-9 c is as cold as it will be during the day into early November. So I think it is safe to say we will have to wait until after the first week in November beyond the models to see if the pattern changes. There is no point in having models and commenting on them if people only choose to use them for the good news. We have to accept the facts good and bad.Having said that who knows what mid November will bring!
  17. Yes not looking good at all. Apart from the first 4 days of this week I expect above average October temps in Scotland. Sitting at :10.06c average for month so far and historic average is 10c...Next 10 days temps 11 and 12c would give an average for the month of roughly 10.8c. So the scaremongering about the next ice age and snow in October was somewhat Naive! I see that another internet weather provider has opted for a warmer than average winter.
  18. Excellent picture of the snow at Cairngorm. The only sad thing is that for the next 10 days at least the mild air will melt all of it. However too early to get up or down about what winter will bring. I just find these mild interludes really boring! Planning Outlook: All mountain areas of Britain from Friday, 21st October, 2011 Mild over the coming week, with present fresh snow on higher summits soon melting. England and Wales generally dry until Sunday or Monday, when rain will slowly spread eastwards. However, rain extensive across Scotland, focussed on western mountains, where falls will be considerable from Thursday until Saturday. There will also be renewed upland gales. Further rain and upland gales likely from time to time next week; the rain focussed on more western mountains, although often very little across the NW Highlands. Forecast issued at 16:30 Wednesday, 19/10/11 The production of the Scottish forecasts is fully funded by the Scottish Government through the Mountaineering Council of Scotland with the support of sportscotland. Forecasts are issued daily by 16:30 and are kept under review and amended as necessary. However, expected conditions can still change after issue. Copyright mwis.org.uk, 2010 http://www.mwis.org.uk
  19. It's a point worth mentioning. Last year in Scotland we had an extremely mild October and very mild November until the last week. Then boom the temeperature dropped we had heavy snow from the 26th onwards and it snowed all the way off and on until January. So while we are going to go through a mild wet period for several weeks by the looks of it who knows what the real winter will bring. Personaly as a skiier last year was a bit disappointing. We had all our snow in November/December and the roads became innaccessable plus very few folk are geared up for skiing with Christmas and all that. Then there was hardly any snow in January none in February and March produced very little. The Season ended for most in April and the year before I was skiing in deep powder at the end of April. So 2010/11 was not as epic as some folk would have you believe.
  20. Hope they are wrong: Met Office UK Outlook for Thursday 3 Nov 2011 to Thursday 17 Nov 2011: Unsettled conditions expected during the latter part of October are likely to extend into the start of November, with Atlantic systems moving from west to east across the British Isles. Northern and western areas are expected to see the most persistent rain with strong winds and gales at times. The southeast will be most favoured for some drier and brighter interludes. Overall temperatures, rainfall amounts, and sunshine totals across the United Kingdom for this period should be around average for early November. Updated: 1245 on Wed 19 Oct 2011
  21. Upper runs look awesome at the Nevis Range...if only it was open! http://www.webcam-ski.com/webcams/interfaces/nevis-range/interface.php?pk_interface=276&m=images&r=panoramique
  22. I thought it was to get colder tonight! Seems warmer than it was all that moisture in the north is just rain! 7.2c now?!boo hoo
  23. Yep was disappointed when I came home last night 3.8c and not a drop of snow on the hills. Surprised the Pentlands have nowt as well. I didn't notice any snow on the Ochills this morning on my way to Edinburgh but it may have been hidden under the clouds.Pity all the rain/snow will be in the North West tonight as I expect the temps to be down to 1c in the Cental belt.
  24. I am very interested in the next batch of heavy rain progressing North East this evening. If this coincides with the drop in temp to 2-3c I think we may see wet snow for a time about 200ft above sea level. What the hell I will stick my neck out and say snow for anyone above 200ft!
