  1. Agree Thursday night/Friday morning looks to be off for anyone north of Carlisle. Sunday into Monday however looks to have potential IF we can keep the cold uppers around as the next low sweeps in. I know the netweather forecast may be over egged slightly but its giving me ALMOST 21 hours of snow lol I'd take that!!
  2. another heavy snow shower rattling through Altens (Aberdeen) just now. Some snow settling on the grass, but I suspect that it will be melted again shortly as the sun pokes through! It doesn't feel cold enough yet for anything to start laying properly. Hopefully once the sun sets and temps begin to drop that might help.
  3. End of December 95 was very cold in Glasgow when I stayed there, it was like -18/20C and I remember being asked to go and run the cars in the driveway to stop them from freezing too much. If I'm correct it was a lobe of high pressure than came down from the polar area over iceland into the uk? a very unusual set up which thawed as quickly as it cam leading to lots of burst pipes!
  4. Dry dull and breezy here as normal. enjoying the respite tbh from wet and cold, its giving the ground a chance to dry out!! Is there going to be an SSW....looking highly unlikely now, BUT some of the todays GFS charts showing a potential for some short lived colder conditions coming in the end of first week of Feb. I don't think we will be getting any headline carnage snowmagedon type senarios. It would be nice though if around the 10th-12th of Feb it did dump it down in the highlands. Off to Aviemore and the small 2 legged one is desperate for lots of snow since the other week was blink and you missed it!!
  5. IF we had -60 to -80 uppers as shown sitting over us like some of the runs show, what effect would this have at lower levels i.e. on the ground? Sorry for a possible newby question.
  6. After what started off as heavy snow around 730pm last night giving the cleared road and path another covering, this morning was met by a wet slushy mess at a temp of 2c at 830am.....any patches left were rapidly thawing, but roads were SLIPPY until the A90. This morning so far I've seen 3 flakes of snow up in Altens and the rest has been rain/sleet. Met app showing heavy snow between 5-7pm but, I take that with a pinch of salt lol Can the UK high please hurry up and arrive so we can get some sunshine and settled weather now.....at least before another shot at some proper snow in in Feb.
  7. Woke up to a good covering of snow this morning in Newburgh (Aberdeenshire). Not sure if the amber warning for the area will come to fruition for me tonight.......There is always hope
  8. FI still at the moment but I would gladly take that followed by a return to the fridge the following week
  9. Suns out again in Altens. Staying in Newburgh up the road from you Looking at the temps and flow of showers, if we see any white stuff it will be a surprise!! Never think we do well from a NW flow, need it to veer round to a NNE to get any decent white stuff
  10. Work In Aberdeen, but live about 15 miles north of the city by the coast. No sign of anything resembling snow in either location so far or further inland this morning when I was out at meetings. some light drizzle on a bitterly cold NNW wind currently. Its been a nice cold but bright day so far. Not sure how much or if anything precip will actually make it to us unless wind shifts to a full Northerly or NE direction.
  11. Enjoy it.....pretty miserable just down the road, horrible sleety mix again
  12. Well the melt is on here. Definite nett loss after last nights sleety mix. Temp currently hovering around 1.6c. Away to have breakfast and get out with the wee fella before it’s gone
  13. There are wild fires on west coast too. While we have all been getting snow on east coast it’s been bone dry over there in the far west
  14. It’s a sleet/snow mix here in Newburgh. Hasn’t covered anything here
  15. Nothing up the road yet sky looks dark though (it’s dark cos it’s nighttime) I meant heavy
  16. Seen some howlers this week on way to and from work. Had a whole roof of snow batter the front of my car on awpr from car in front they got a stinker of a look when I passed them. And the depth of the snow before departure from roof was about 10-15cm
  17. Seen that earlier. Some effort all be it totally stupid and dangerous
  18. This is the slowest moving feature Ever!! After the precipitation earlier this week it seems like it will be July by the time it make land
  19. Does anyone know what the craic about snow in the northeast is tonight?? Is there a small feature giving us a final hooraaah before the melt sets in?
  20. Probably 95. Was -double digits and remember going to start cars every day in Glasgow so they didn’t freeze too much. Being a young lad it was rather exciting
  21. Calling it a night here. Spent most of the night watching the lamppost and radar. Light snow on now.... and likely most of night ??
  22. Looks like another reload is on its way. After that it looks very sporadic
  23. Yes banged to get a piece of that too In Newburgh. Car tracks on road filled In again fingers crossed for a few more heavy showers tonight
  24. I’m away to head home from Work. Secretly hoping it dings it down on way home
