  1. Following on from my throwback pics yesterday - here’s a pic I found of the snow in a March 2013 - this was up in the Castlereagh hills. Hoping for some similar accumulations up here in Mallusk next week. Will follow up later with short 30sec video from YouTube link (too large to upload here)
  2. Lol lots of bickering and complaining. Am I totally wrong if I think the latest models this evening seem better for us?
  3. What a beautiful crisp day out there today! Even loving this weather. No rain = result
  4. I just read from one of the posts in the model thread that one of the posters think Northern Ireland has heavy snow potential.
  5. When UK wide is mentioned in here, I often wonder if Northern Ireland is included in those statements ... purely because I want to understand the excellent analysis of charts provided here and the impacts across all areas ..... I am learning a lot though keep up the great work people ?
  6. Nice one! Here’s hoping would love it (snow) to hang around for a bit (less hockey for me ?) but I know it’s start of March next week so will see. Certainly an interesting week or two ahead Haha true - I’m sure it’ll Be pasted all over the news here if Belfast’s involved lol. Get yourself over to the East for plenty of work ?
  7. Wow - that pic from this year up your way! Didn’t realise how much you guys got. Wasn’t much on news or weather about it. Nice!
  8. lol I know somethings up when I see the Ireland thread showing as a hot topic ? So what’s actually happening? Low pushing things North? What’s the timeframe?
  9. Here’s a pic of the water frozen behind me. (Scundered lol) Also, for anyone interested, here’s a video someone took from 2010 showing the lovely scenes around NI in 2010. Just beautiful - lovely freezing but sunny days. I know we aren’t exactly in the same set up but every winter I’ve always hoped we could relive something like that. Being 30 - that was the major winter for my time.
  10. How’d Mallusk fair in 2010? I didn’t live here then - lived up in castlereagh hills - can’t remember much of 2010 lol - I do remember Victoria park frozen over and going with my dad for a walk .. venturing on to the sides of the frozen lake - really stupid of me but didn’t go far. Funny - I was looking at pics my dad took that day - lovely bright crisp freezing day
  11. Just wondering for my own learning - see the way it says precipitation type (mm) - so is that millimetres? As in we are showing 2-3mm? Like is that per hour or what? I’m always confused looking at them. I know pink = good, darker pink = better lol but basically someone explain pls lol ?
  12. Thanks. You’re a star. Trying my best to keep up with all the info ?
  13. Thanks for this. On the East Coast of NI and have no idea how these charts affect us as I use the commentary for understanding.
  14. Oh yes mustn’t forget the Wine. Can leave it in cooler out the back - be colder than my fridge ?? Ah yes, I seen the post above suggesting conditions are favourable I have the images of mountains of snow shovelled up at side of country roads higher than my car back in 2010 when the tractors cleared some roads (this was when I lived in castlereagh hills). I remember getting so far up a country road then coming to a halt from where the tractors stopped - snow in front of my car was higher than the bonnet ? I’m scared to commence precautionary measures in case I jinx it ??? Think I’ll start by trying to get my wood burner sorted - has needed done for ages now so at least that’s something that needs done regardless - plus would be nice to have a lovely fire going and to come back to after walking the dog in a winter wonderland ???
  15. So y’all know I live up Mallusk at back of cavehill - 180-200ms. Should I seriously be considering stocking up on some things? I have trouble getting out of my street (steepish enough hill) after small snow showers and during some heavy frost. If there’s any chance of significant snow I reckon my area could be extremely difficult to get in and out of. It would be a case of leaving my car on the main road about ¾mile away and hiking up and down. Am I being extreme lol? Private development with no gritters and 1 grit box that’s prob empty from the winter. Steep hill as only entrance to development. We have a snow shovel bought at end of last snow period last month (lol still sitting in my partners car unused). Prob top up gas if we can’t get our wood burner fixed before Tues (would prefer the burner as I’ve loads of wood but it’s dangerous atm?) Basically I don’t know how much of a threat the east coast of NI faces. I understand the cold is locked in and I’m jealously reading the regional forums in England but not sure of relevancy for here. Prob just getting caught up in the drama and wishful thinking ? But would still be nice to prepare just incase.
  16. https://m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/weather-northern-ireland-to-avoid-siberian-blast-as-britain-braces-itself-for-big-freeze-36630425.html What’s he on about? Doesn’t make sense to me? I thought it will be very cold and potential for snow on east fuelled by Irish Sea?
  17. Hey. Sorry not normally in this thread, but I've possible travel next week to the NW (plus I used to spend my summers between Blackpool, Liverpool and the Lake District ?, therefore I also love this part of the country) Anyway - I'm interested in what you said about land convection and the sun etc. I'm not very knowledgable but would appreciate learning what you mean by this / why that is the case? Thanks ?
  18. ?? Scared to say anything in case I jinx it ? Maybe by Fri/Sat I'll mention possibility of a few flurries come Monday
  19. Catching up on this evenings events. What's the prospects then? I see orange - red warnings being floated about come sat if models continue to verify. Am I a tad excited? Yes. Am I a tad worried that it's too good to be true? Hell yeh. Am I ready for it? No. I live approx 180-200m asl, with big hills around me to get to my house so now I'm thinking practically that if this happens, I may actually be snowed in and will need supplies. Closest shop within walking distance may not actually be able to receive deliveries as it's up a big hill. I may need to stock up on gas and groceries. Am I getting a bit carried away? Maybe lol Anyone got snow chains for the car? Lol. How do they work when you've come out of a snow covered road on to a clear but gritted road?
  20. Hi All, Just checking to say hello! Been following but haven't contributed since the last snow shower - mainly because I'm a complete novice in reading charts etc. lol. Thanks to all those for their expertise in contributing to the thread. The model thread is interesting but mental - I try to learn a bit through it but it can be difficult :-/ Anyway - hopefully, next week, when I check the forums - Ireland will be right up there at the top as a hot topic
  21. Is that just NW? Its snowing heavy here again on top of earlier heavy snow shower and roads frozen over. SHould be an interesting evening if they keep coming
  22. THE last heavy one we had has covered everything but it’s frozen solid now and the cars are have proper trouble getting in and out of our area - out walked the dog there and it was dodgy crossing the road - I’m an experienced ice skater so used the principles of that to basically skate across the roads lol
