  1. Just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. I'd say the next two hours are critical as to our fortunes in this part of the region.
  2. Rumble of thunder. Probably from the Chester cell. Really hope things can spark off in that large gap to the South. Still plenty of time yet.
  3. Warm and humid here with hazy sunshine. Temp has already passed the forecast maximum for today, currently 24.6C. Storm potential won't be hampered by lack of heating at least. A very interesting afternoon/evening coming up.
  4. Estofex has issued a level 1 warning for today which includes a large part of region. Mentions widespread storms likely forming and moving N and E across the UK during the afternoon and evening, a very bullish forecast. Could be quite an afternoon.
  5. I think lightning is so much better at night. I could see lightning when it first formed over Shropshire just before midnight around 50 miles away. I then dozed off and was awoken just in time by a rumble of thunder not long after 1AM. It was a nice little effort. Hopefully this was just the taster for the main event today.
  6. Both cells moving away now, one to the South came within about a mile. Lightning not that frequent, a flash every two minutes or so, but nice little bonus to get a night storm.
  7. Not a bad little storm this. Bright flashes, decent booming thunder. Looks to be two cells, around 5 miles to the West and South. Wow, big fork!
  8. That's the best things about night storms, lightning is visible several miles away. It's probably about 50 miles away from here, but the flashes have been quite vivid.
  9. Raining here. Seeing a very occasional flash to my South, must be coming from the storm near church Stretton.
  10. Yeah, definitely. Tonight is a golden opportunity, showers/storms over Wales and West Midlands are developing more and more. Nearest recent strikes are in the Oswestry area. I'm sure we should be able to see these now it's dark.
  11. Electrical activity over Wales is expanding ever further East, now strikes over the West Midlands in South Shropshire, could be an interesting few hours overnight. Lightning should at least be visible once properly dark from Southern parts of our region.
  12. Ties in with the current radar. There are now developments further East near Oswestry.
  13. Lol! Mind you, it's not just the birds that are noisy at that time here, the milkman comes round about the same time Monday to Saturday. Its not quiet milk floats any more, it's a noisy transit that comes flying round the corner sounding like it's trying to set a new land speed record!
  14. Some thunderstorms intensifying over Wales right now and further showers over Central Southern England. I'm assuming these may form a line, further develop and push North over the region in the early hours if some of the models are to be believed.
  15. Thanks for this, a potential taster before the main buffet tomorrow then. A night storm would be great. Metoffice not seeing this, but as you highlight, anything can happen once the unstable air is in place.
  16. Dry all day here, but has been mostly cloudy until recently. Sun starting to burst through the cloud now and temperature responding accordingly, has shot up 3 degrees in the last hour, currently 24.3C and a muggy feel. I'm hoping for some cooler days/nights. The bedroom has been roasting hot by sunset over the past few days and only cooling slowly overnight given elevated overnight temps as well. Window is open all night, but that means my first wake up call is nature's pre-dawn chorus, which is always in full swing by 04:00.
  17. Another hot day today, max of 28.2C. It did cloud in somewhat late afternoon. A downward trend in temperatures looking likely over the next few days, which will suit me fine, although likely to become more humid.
  18. It's another sunny start here, barely a cloud in the sky and very still out. Currently 17.7C. Needless to say, another hot day coming up.
  19. The weather was great for weeks prior to last weekend, largely sunny days, temps into the low 20s Celcius and cool nights. Made it so much more comfortable for outdoor activities and the house wasn't too warm inside. Now we're getting into the high 20s Celcius here every day and nights staying warm, it's definitely gone past my comfort zone. The thunderstorms have provided some compensation though.
  20. Yes, little wind today has made it feel that bit more uncomfortable. Got up to 28.2C here today and house is now an oven. Some cloudier conditions with a bit of a breeze would be most welcome for a while at least to help cool things inside a little. This may be the case as we head into Sunday.
  21. Hot once again here today, currently 28.1C. Mostly sunny, but one or two clouds have bubbled up.
  22. Yeah, I do.the same, windows open, curtains shut in rooms which get the sun late afternoon. Still gets very warm in the room, but probably slightly less so than if the curtains were open.
  23. I tried the trick of keeping windows and curtains shut previously, but just found it got too stuffy. I opt for multiple windows open to try and get cross ventilation going. Maybe I just need to stump up for air conditioning. The way our summers are going in recent years, it's probably worth it. I'll check out those water spray fans you mention, they sound great!
