  9. Southern Europe unsettledFine in ScandinaviaIssued: 0530hrs Thursday 24th April 2014 Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson Thunderstorms widespread across Europe Thursday A cold front brings a cool and wet day to north-western parts of Spain and northern Portugal. Showers will affect southern Portugal, plus central and northern Spain. Southern and eastern Spain generally drier and warmer, but thunderstorms may break out by evening, and move across to the Balearics. France may also see some thundery showers break out, but there should be spells of warm sunshine also. A more organised area of rain moves onto the Biscay coast later. Much of central Europe will see sunshine and showers, including Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, but feeling warm in the sunshine. Showers also breaking out by afternoon in Switzerland, Austria and also Italy. Greece and the Balkan states are affected by a more organised area of low pressure, bringing some heavy falls of rain. Turkey and Cyprus are hot, but also the risk of a thunderstorm. Scandinavia is dominated by high pressure, with fair and dry conditions for most of Finland, Norway and Sweden, although southern areas may catch a shower. Friday High pressure builds across south-western Spain and Portugal on Friday bringing fair conditions. Still the risk of showers in the north-west of Iberia. Thundery showers in eastern Spain should clear, but the Balearics, Corsica and Sardinia may see heavy bursts of rain throughout the day. France will also see pulses of heavy thundery rain. Unsettled conditions continue to dominate southern Europe, with thunderstorms breaking out and merging into longer periods of rain in Italy, the Balkan states, Greece and Turkey. Southern Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic also see thundery rain. High pressure remains centred to the north, with Denmark, plus northern parts of Germany and Poland looking dry and warm, although quite breezy. Plenty of sunshine in Norway, Sweden and Finland and generally mild. http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-app/reports?LANG=en&MENU=204&FILE=eus&DAY=20140424
  10. GEM once again this morning delays the coldest air to later next week -4 is about the lowest the 850's get to on GEM away from Scotland ECM is also delaying the colder air now to later next week
  11. A very mild evening not far off from a muggy evening 14.0c at 20:00 with no breeze and cloudy
  12. ECM starts the week off with some milder air but its replaced by colder air mid week its also showing a rise in pressure by May 1st Later next week high pressure starts to build Still early yet but we now have both GFS and ECM showing a rise in pressure later next week as the high over Greenland starts to ease away
  13. After a quiet start to 2014 some intense storms develop in the next few days conditions could be right for tornadoes to form in the Lower Mississippi Valley. BBC Weather's Susan Powell explains. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/feeds/27130748
  14. Well then GEM has just made this colder plunge at the start of next week even more uncertain now with the cold air delayed till the end of the week
  15. Still differences between GFS and UKMO at t144 if UKMO is right the SE would hold onto the milder air for one more day whereas GFS would bring lower temperatures for all with wintry showers in Scotland especially on high ground Longer term GFS remains keen to build pressure later next week and into the following week
  16. The London, Manchester and Aberdeen 06z ensembles this afternoon are all showing a rise in pressure from later next week which should help to start and settle things down as we approach the next bank holiday weekend The 850's on them all go above average from the 4th / 5th onwards
  17. 16.4c currently in Darlington with the sunshine what a difference to yesterday
  18. 9.9c to the 22nd 2.4c above the 61 to 90 average
  19. What a difference on the 06z from GFS with high pressure building as early as later next week just in time for the next bank holiday weekend With winds shown to come in from the east again the best temperatures would probably be found in the west I've had a look at cloud amounts and they don't look too bad to be honest for England and wales
  20. Cracking spring day here in Darlington wall to wall sunshine hardly even a breeze could reach 17 or 18c by this afternoon if it stays sunny Feel sorry for those in NE Scotland who once again are likely to be stuck with low cloud and temperatures struggling to even make it into double figures
