  1. Found my thunderstorm diaries that I used to keep (well 3 of them anyway). By this time in '97 we had already had 5 thunderstorms, 2 of which were all nighters. According to the diary, I classed a thunderstorm as being over 30 minutes long, anything shorter was classed as 'a day with thunder' of which we had had 23. Compare that to 2011, where we have had 2 thunder days and only one of those days could be considered a thunderstorm. I'm sorry i just don't buy it when people say we are having the same amount of storms as ever. On a separate note, it is almost quite smoggy today.
  2. Thanks for simplifying things for me. My physics is not my strongest subject. I guess I just figured that on the way down to the floor that lightening might pass through you if you were touching something metal.
  3. But what if your holding on to a railing or something else metal? Most of the floor is metal in that tower!
  4. Would you get electrocuted if you were in the tower at the time, considering all the metal?
  5. What a lovely day today and lots of fluffy CU about. makes a change from the cold grey days we've had recently.
  6. There is a massive anvil towards NW London way. It will miss us again as usual.
  7. Absolutely fantastic clouds that look stormy towards London way. I hope it will come this way.
  8. I always thought it was roughly on the same latitude. So 1987 wasn't a hurricane as it was always made out to be?
  9. I suppose that's true. Perhaps 'storms more likely' would have been a better thing for me to say.
  10. How has it managed to work it's way up to NYC? I mean NYC is basically at the same level as the Uk so has similar weather. Has it just used the heat from the south to fuel itself all the way up there? Also how come we do not see hurricanes here (well very very rarely?). I would have through the gulfstream would be warm enough? No?
  11. Had 11mm already this morning and it's still raining. I am so disappointed with our storm season this year and it's almost at an end.
  12. How dissappointing. Went from T-Storms forecast on BBC for tomorrow and Saturday to light drizzle and sunny intervals.
  13. Clouds look very stormy to the North and North West, but don't know if they'll drop.
  14. BBC is forecasting T-Storms for my area Thursday and Friday I shall take that with a pinch of salt.
  15. A big disappointment that was, but I was expecting it. It has been raining since the early hours but only 3mm in my rain gauge. Strange.
  16. I like my sleep too much to stay up but will have the windows open and blinds only halfway down so i can see an hear it if it rolls in.
  17. That a lovely picture, but it honestly almost blood red. My camera keeps making it lighter though. That's more like what we've got.
