  1. Funny how the nice weather has shrunk this thread! Pretty much the same as directly above. Quite a bit of cloud has appeared after a late blast of sun, Thin with a good few breaks.
  2. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm met office now downgrading temperatures for next weekend round my way. Nothing above 18C ......
  3. A warm day in Bridgwater with plenty of sun until about 2.00 p.m. but it clouded over and very dark ominous clouds took the sun's place. Some breaks appeared in the evening but rain also came in heavy showers. Looking towards Dorset there seemed to be lots of rain and dark clouds.
  4. Hooray - a lovely warm weekend coming up - and one when I am free as well!! Probably I'll test my tent out (for a late summer jaunt to the Med) and see my other sun and warmth-loving friends!!
  5. Grey and with light rain, which turned very heavy mid-morning on the Somerset coast around Burnham. Lunchtime it became drier with very light drizzle appearing a few times. Now much drier and even some patches of sun appearing. Mild all day at about 18C.
  6. Spent weekend in Brum where today started cool but very sunny. Cloud appeared around lunchtime and at times was dark and threatening but didn't lead to anything. Travelling down the M5 it was noticeable how the areas of blue increased in size until I reached Somerset where it was sunny but still quite cool at about 17C. Now high cloud building up for the rain tonight. Fingers crossed for the generally better weather expected at the end of the week!
  7. Sun only shone until about 7.30 cloud soon came over and rain began earlier than expected at about 11.00 a.m. It hasn't stopped since - sometimes light but sometimes quite heavy and although I haven't seen major floods there's been some big puddles about! It's felt cold too.
  8. Heavy bursts of rain to the north caused localised flash flooding near Wells but missed where I live. Mixed day of sun and lines of rain, pleasant in the sun when it came. Currently we have superb cloudscapes of large cumulus floating around.
  9. Cooler near the coast of Somerset although very little rain and perhaps more sun than expected early afternoon. Very dark and dreary at 5.00 p.m. but rain did not appear despite threatening. Cleared up at about 7.30 p.m. to brighter evening with large areas of blue - but staying cold at 12C.
  10. No sign of the sun today here. A little drizzle in the morning but mainly dry until mid-afternoon when thicker areas of rain bearing cloud appeared amongst the general grey drudge and we've had a couple of short downpours. I'm still living off yesterdays unexpected summery moment.
  11. Remarkably dry, warm, and - yes - sunny here this afternoon. Low wind causing temperature to rise to about 21C in mid-Somerset. Very bubbly cumulus around looking quite thundery but just passing my area allowing continuous sun for about three hours - hence good temperature. Lawns being mown, and I got a couple of hours sunbathing in. Who knows - might get a thunderstorm later.
  12. A cool start at about 14C. We are drying out here in the West Country - feeling damp and rather sultry. Low clouds coming in from the north for a change, but breaking up to show some blue - hopeful that the forecast for a pleasant day in these parts is to be borne out.
  13. A short respite at 5.00 p.m. for about 90 minutes, with some sun breaking through for five minutes or so - but now back to the dark cloud and steady rain.
  14. Hasn't stopped raining here since yesterday afternoon; very heavy at times. I live on a hill so I'm absolutely fine but there are some flood warnings out nearby for areas I've never heard warnings for before (Ilminster and area). Steady light rain at present - about 15C. I seem to have passed the grieving stage for the summer and have now entered the acceptance and adaptation stage.
  15. Dry morning with thin cloud but enough to cover sun. Grew in thickness throughout the day, rain started light at about 3.30 p.m getting progressively heavier. Now steady rain and very dull. Just seen the forecast for next week .........
  16. Noting the forecasts from Westbury and Dorset, it's amazing what about forty miles makes. Sky remained overcast in Bridgwater area and it took some time for the temperature to rise; sun finally arrived at 5.00 p.m., after which it has been a pleasant evening - quite possibly warmer after 6 than during the day. Large area of cumulus refused to move from over my house so sun did not appear despite large areas of blue surrounding. Cloud rose and thinned . But I have had two evenings in a row where I have enjoyed an evening walk in the fields around my village and with the mild nights this week is turning out to feel more summery despite the deluge we had on Tuesday.
  17. So that'll be seven bad summers of rain and floods. If this means we have pestilence for the next seven years at least we might get some decent weather.
  18. Rain stopped earlier than forecast over mid-Somerset and it remained dry throughout the day and surprisingly warm at lunchtime with the odd glimpse of sun. Cloud base went with cold front at about 6.00 p.m. leaving us with a pleasant generally sunny evening with low breeze. Butterflies came out, and blue sky could be seen while watching Murray win Wimbledon 1/4 final. Could almost have been summer.
  19. Ultra ghastliness here with little dryness between long periods of steady rain. Featureless cloud, dark and dreary, and as closer to the coast, cooler at about 15C max.
  20. Round my parts growing seems to be OK - but then I think we've been lucky with some drier periods than other areas sometimes lasting two or three days, albeit with a light shower. My veg are fine. Although I'm fed up with loads of low cloud and cool weather I think other more northerly forumites would be much happier with the weather down these parts.
  21. Steady light rain until lunchtime after which it cleared up but low dark cloud predominated on the coast and inland in Somerset. Vague hints of a little sun lasting the odd second or two but still dark and ghastly here. Currently about 13C. Here is a picture of Burnham-on-Sea looking beautiful today.
  22. Further south in Somerset the main rain by-passed us to the north but heavy dark cumulus with some showers have dominated the morning with a little blue in between. Maximum 16C. Now short bursts of sun between cumulus without showers (at least that's something). Blue sky keeps on tantalising in the distance but never amounts to much despite forecast of bright afternoon.
