  1. I think I've learned my lesson during this cool spell, and that is to disregard Steve Murr's sensationalist hopecasts Actually, if anyone else were to post such blatant IMBYist hopecasts I'm sure the posst deleted and eventually membership rejected. As for this current spell, the temperature in Newcastle is a full 9 to 13 degrees warmer than the November 2010 wintry spell. Perspective
  2. Well still no frost and still no snow. A cloudy and occasionally drizzly easterly flow. Very exciting I must say. Let;s hope the second bite of the cherry that we MIGHT POTENTIALLY be afforded be more accomodating.
  3. GP's latest thoughts on the MO thread suggests a reload after a milder blip over the weekend. He mentions the probability of a sustained cold period through February. John Holmes supports this view which gives me confidence that this could be the case. I hope he's right because I genuinely don't see this current set up we're in now delivering anything of note for us. Very cloudy out there tonight but still no precipitation.
  4. TWS Will frontal snow at the weekend fall at all levels or most likely just away from the coast?
  5. TWS. Thanks for that very useful summary. All too often (particularly in the MO thread) too much technical talk can over complicate matters so a few paragraphs from yourself there has made a world of difference to newbis like myself.
  6. Overnight there was trace (and I mean 'trace') of hail on top of my windscreen wipers. Yes it's cold out there but precipitation looks like it'll be pretty much nil all week I'm afraid.
  7. As has alreaedy been mentioned, this is turning into an embarassing damp squib following all the ramping done by Steve Murr - BOOM, BOOM my behind! The breakdown of this 'cooler' weather is in sight and if this is the highlight of the winter I'd sooner have milder weather to save on the heating bills!
  8. Drizzle more like. Nothing white whatsoever. I have a feeling this 'cold spell' will deliver bo diddly.
  9. Just to add, one thing I noticed with a lot of regualrity over the last two winters is that the forecasts never picked up on some of the heavy falls of snow (few hours worth of snow at a time) so definitely nowcasting as some have already suggested, is most certainly the case. All the stresses of model watching over the past two weeks are now about to come to fruition. Time to sit back, relax, enjoy and watch events unfold.
  10. Rain here! Good God, this isn't what we've signed up for!!! Country Tracks forecast earlier has snow for us on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in the form of convective showers. Bring it on
  11. I think it'll only affect the far west of the mainland to b ehonest, as TEITS has alluded on the model thread, the precip just can't make head way because of the strength of the block. Are we really going to see any snow showers here in th enorth east before midweek? I'm not convinced we will ...
  12. I'm not being funny but isn't this just bloody fantastsic - what we are looking at right now? The last two winters have delivered some brilliant snowfalls and some very cold temperatures which I honestly didn't think we'd ever see again, what with all this talk of the 'large teapot' throughout the past 15 or so years. But incredibly we could be looking at a third consecutive winter delivering the goods in terms of cold and snow!
  13. Let's get down to brass tacks, when's it going to snow, how cold will it get and how much snow will there be in Newcastle? That question goes to Mr Happy (OON) Or anyone who cares to answer actually!
  14. North East v North West???? No competition, we're gonna get pasted here in the NE
  15. Nothing at all here in Newcastle, not even a scrap of ice
  16. Sorry, I was wanting a synopsis based on what the models are showing for this upcoming potentially cold/snowy weather next week/weekend. Thanks mate.
  17. Can one of the more knowedgable please give a forecast for the North East of England based on the current output from tonigh's models please? All I see in the Model Output thread is what is going to happen in the SE and I'm bored with it! Thanks in advance
  18. Cold and grey today. Fingers crossed that the much talked about easterly/North Easterly is on its way on about 8 or so days time. Let winter begin in earnest!
  19. Any chance of a weather update for Northern England from what the models are currently suggesting s'il vous plait?
  20. Hi TEITS. For the benefit of newbie's like myself, can you tell me what the attachements mean in terms of weather please? Thanks.
  21. Sorry to be a pain, but can someone give an update as to where we are now please?! Bloody exhasting is this, as well as fascinating! I've sided with the ECM but can someone more knowledgable put some meat on the bones and sock it to me/us proper??!!
