  1. Would an obvious Cardiff 2-0 Boro scoreline tempt you to stay at home?
  2. It's December 16th for goodness sake Still a full 3 months of winter ahead yet and let's face it, to have got snow today from a set up that wouldn't traditionally favour the north east we're doing ok in my book.
  3. Sorry I don't have a thermometer. Feels quite raw still though. Obviously dp's are now wrong side of marginal I presume.
  4. A Kellogg cornflake As the milder air kicks back in next week there will be raindrops the size of Coco Pops next!
  5. Nothing falling at all at the minute but the sky to the north looks rather grey. Me and Alza might be in for another shower very soon ...
  6. Don't you just love the North East weather. I lost count over the last two winters when we had convective snow events that were never forecast by the BBC/MetO etc. Today is yet another of those events which only gets picked up on during the event.
  7. Light/moderate snow here in Newcastle. Not settling but hey, better than now't!
  8. So what is the ECM showing both in the reliable timeframe and FI?
  9. Another non-event lads I'm afraid, well for low lying north east areas anyway. One can dream ...
  10. Christ Nick, thanks for producing yet more stuff for a newbie to try and get his head around!
  11. Cheers Nick, an amusing and informative response. I suppose the other model related questions I have are; i) why do some models only go out to a particular time ie T72 ii) are the models furthest afield (Australia, Japan) less fruitful because they are produced the other side of the world - and so should be disregarded altogether from our point of view?
  12. Sorry to be dense here, but just a simpletons question! BOM, JMA, GEM and such lesser models. Who produces them and why are they produced if they are so unreliable? When I say 'unreliable' I'm obviously referring to the fact that everyone refers to them as 'lesser models' and almsot disregards them before the output is finished. Do they serve any purpose? Thanks.
  13. Frost starting to develop in Newcastle now. Don't have a thermometer but feels nice and clear/crisp/dry out there. If you ain't got snow then this is the next best thing I suppose!
  14. Paul Mooney on Look North suggesting a northerly for Saturday which might bring a few wintry showers to the north east, but on Sunday the wind backs westerly again leaving eastern areas dry but cold alomg with western areas. Sounds like a good call to me, so for us in the north east Saturday looks our best bet for any wintry precipitation
  15. As a pretty bad hayfever sufferer, 10c and low cloud in June is bloody fantastic!
  16. To be perfectly honest it's understandable. I have been living in the North East since 2001 (Newcastle) and before that I lived in the North East from 1984 - 1992 (East Rainton, nr Houghton-le-Spring). On the whole I have seen some pretty impressive snowfalls/winters, particularly in the 84-92 period but not exclusively. I have to say on the whole the North East does pretty well overall. Of course N'Easterlies are the holy grail for us up here but it's December, still plenty of winter to play with yet. And let's face it, it's going to be touch and go for folk in the firing line over the next 48hrs down south anyway.
  17. Seemed to be rather a lot of posts from people lamp post watching, radar watching and expecting snow from what I read! And this with winds coming from a direction which never favour snow for east of the pennines in my experience. Not saying it couldn't happen but the chances have to be extremely slim let's be honest. From where I work I can see the Cheviots and I can report that there was a lot more snow on them this time last week than there was today.
  18. As I predicted last night, no snow for us. For a newbie I seem to be doing better than most people on here Why anyone thought any snow (of note) would fall east of the pennines beats me to be honest!!! I still say our only hope for the foreseeable is if the winds at the weekend tilt east of north. Otherwise forget it
  19. I still don't expect anything at all, as I think we're too far east for this kind of set up to deliver. This weekend represents our best chance in my opinion.
  20. Living in Newcastle I have to say the last two winters have been pretty good, albeit last winter was mainly 'Late November/December' and then nothing. Events over the past two years have made snow/wintry weather fans greedy for more! I'd be interested to hear what TWS and the other senior members here think about BFTP/GP/Steve Murrs predictions of looking east in January. Cheers
  21. As I suspected no snow for us in the north east today. Nice and windy out there right now, hopefully the weekend might produce something other than a fleeting sleety shower!
  22. I'm not convinced we here in the NE will see much in the way of snow tomorrow mate but will be happy to be proved wrong. This time last year ... aaahhh!
