  1. Hold on tight folks, the Doctors wind is back again
  2. Having just returned home from a night out in Newcastle .... THAT wind tonight is bitter. Painfully bitter actually. At least it feels very wintry!
  3. Goodness me. Genuine question, do you do that thing where you waft the duvet to see what it smells like? That wind today was ridiculous! I'm really surprised my garden fence is still in tact (must get a new one sorted this year!). Good to have some "weather" to talk about though ... and hopefully a colder February.
  4. It's been pleasantly mild though. If I'm honest, if we can't have freezing cold and snowy weather then this weather type suits me.
  5. Do you know something, ahead of that band of rain the wind today was absolutely biting up here. The car thermometer said 3c but easily felt like -3 or lower. The rain today briefly started sleety but was very rapidly replaced by rain. I suspect it will feel quite pleasant this weekend as temperatures go from 3c to 13c potentially! Positively balmy!
  6. Hi Nick, sorry for the late reply ... work gets in the way at times! I seem to recall one run (I know!) showing NE'lies screaming across us, but never mind! We had a good 3 hours of heavy snow where I work at Cobalt Business Park near the Silverlink (A19) and it settled a treat right from the off. Which is odd considering there was more snow (and it hung around longer) nearer the coast than it did further inland at home nearer Newcastle centre. Anyway, the chilly weather is nearing the end now for another year
  7. I tend to agree. There were seemingly some amazing charts and synoptics being forecast a week ago, and other than the heavy snow we had for 3 hours last Thursday morning (which has pretty much all but melted now), it's been a let down really.
  8. Well that was a pleasant surprise this morning! Set off from home to work, rain with a little sleet mixed in. By the time I'd reached Benton it was heavy wet snow. By the time I'd got to work near West Allotment it was heavy settling snow which continued unabated for over 3 hours leaving a lovely covering. Cold and crispy out there now with residual snow cover freezing over.
  9. Generally rain with the odd smattering of sleetiness chucked in. I think this cold spell will turn out to be a damp squib here so good luck to everyone else!
  10. Stop being so impatient! Thanks to DSP and Doctor for the replies. Much appreciated fellas. 43yo and I'm still enjoying the wintry chase! Ah for a 2009 repeat, going to bed at 10am and everywhere bone dry, then waking up to 7" of level snow 1 mile from the centre of Newcastle was superb!
  11. Judging by the mood in the MO thread, this cold spell is starting to go the way of the pear somewhat. Although as most posters on that thread live darn sarf it's hard to judge how much NIMBYism is at play when they interpret the charts! Can any of the more knowledgeable posters shed any light on the latest developments please? Saw some brightness today, not sunshine but brightness.
  12. I can barely remember seeing the sun so far this year!
  13. Not when you're 43yo it's not! Although women .... well less is best shall we say
  14. I love extreme weather types and all weathers in general. Do pop in frequently throughout the year.
  15. It's good to see this thread buzzing again and popular.
  16. So are we not looking at north-easterlies anymore as things stand?
  17. Thanks DSP. A lot of effort and an easy ish post to understand
  18. I'd like to ask a favour. Would the knowledgeable chaps please give us as many updates as possible please in terms of the upcoming cold weather? Chance of snow etc (and where) as we approach the event would be really appreciated, and if you post charts so we could all learn it'd be fantastic if you can. Thanks.
  19. Tonight's charts look a bit tasty! 2010-esque dare I say?
  20. It appears (as others have alluded to above) that rather than persistent heavy rain, we are getting heavier showers in amongst the lighter stuff. Which is probably a good job because when it comes down heavy, it really does come down and that would definitely lead to flooding I reckon. It seems to have been dull, dank and predominantly wet now for days! More of the same for tonight and tomorrow but then by 11am on Thursday the sun comes out! Thursday morning seems along way off though ....
  21. The rain has been relentless now for a few hours. It's lashing against the window in a decent breeze which sounds awesome. The forecast for Newcastle says it's going to rain non-stop between 18:00 today until the early hours of Thursday morning! If this keeps up I'd be surpised if there isn't a fair amount of flooding round these parts.
