  1. This is it, it looks like the Uk, is getting a double punch If the first storm causes a lot of damage (power lines down) The second one coming on 27-28 could hamper recovery efforts. It's looking rather grim If the Met Office update their warnings, it seems to be around noon-ish
  2. The shower band went through 3-4am this morning Captured a lightning strike off the coast. - Attached The shower band went through with some hail & gusty winds. The lightning video - 2:35 for the brief lightning strike
  3. For any night owls Just checked the radar, another batch of heavy showers heading for the south-west now With some sferics being picked up
  4. For those having a go at people who are very interested in severe weather. I'm pretty sure people like James Reynolds don't want to see death & destruction, but these very powerful storms do happen, and i think it's good that people wish to document them (putting their own arses on the firing line, in the process) The weather helps to keep people on their toes, as we have no control over it. If it was quiet & boring all the time, with clear blue skies every day, i would personally find that extremely tedious Back to the current situation. For the St Jude storm, the amber warnings went up very early, with some very strongly worded warnings I'm thinking, time of year, many many people travelling, i'm not sure the message is strong enough yet. I mean the central pressures being modelled here for Monday & later next week. Low pressure of 965 or 955 would be serious, but 934, or maybe even lower. Geez.. the sort of central pressures you get in Major Hurricanes !!! I don't think it would be overhype to step up the warnings, and get the word out, this is looking dangerous
  5. Just a quick word on wave heights http://www.stormsurfing.com/cgi/display.cgi?a=natla_height It's a long way off, but the chart for the 27th December - +174hr Near the end of the sequence The bright yellow blob just to the west of Ireland, is off the scale !! 52+ ft waves being indicated
  6. Very impressive Sat pics Here in the south-west, winds been picking up all day Quite nasty out there, Wind & Rain Can hear the wind from inside (on the North coast, so actually have some shelter from a south wind) This is going to pack quite a punch
  7. Express Front Page, this morning 'Storms on way at Christmas' https://twitter.com/SkyNews/status/409807245015134208/photo/1 Yeah, and a Daily Express Journalist just flew past my window !!
  8. Think i'll drop the Met Office a word or two For the past 24 hours, it's been gusting over gale force (40mph) here It's been relentless (especially high gusts in showers) Right now, it's showing no signs of easing down Even outside of any showers, it's a mean speed of 25mph (Northerly) Gusting to 41mph, as i type this No wind warnings were put out for the south-west I fear to open my north facing window... as i will struggle to close it again Captured some audio evidence, early this morning
  9. 10. hail shower in progress with wet snow mixed in big gusts of wind not bad for the coast
  11. Daily Star headline 'Killer Storm to hit Uk' Oh my gosh, this is not funny at all https://twitter.com/SkyNews/status/400035320806137856/photo/1
  12. Do hope folks like James Reynolds are ok, nothing on Twitter since the storm arrived Probably due to lost power / phone signal This does not look good, as the death toll rises http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-24878801 Tacloban got hit very hard
  13. What worries me, is that i recently watched some footage from James Renolds previous encounters with Typhoons this season, and he filmed people trying to walk in hurricane force winds, and riding motorcycles One guy is hit on the head by a piece of flying debris I dread to think what will happen over the next 24 hours I fear the death toll could be serious
  14. I'm starting to hate this rain I do some laundry, i need my window open, to help my laundry to dry I wait for this bloody rain band to go through.. thinking it will be dry at least for a while afterwards I check outside, it's bloody raining again !! and coming in my window. Argh !!!
  15. waves are topping the pebble ridge at westwood ho It's wild out there http://www.eyeballhq.tv/surfcheck/westward-ho/ streaming cam, before it get's dark
  16. The wee small hours of the morning Met Office, now has a yellow wind warning out, on their website South-West and South Wales It's valid from noon today, until 9pm
  17. Ok, Met Office now have a yellow wind warning out http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-3.50&lat=55.50&fcTime=1383350400&regionName=sw 50-60mph locally 70mph along exposed coasts Some more tree's could be coming down
  18. Certainly looks impressive on sat. Looks like a vicious swirl out there If last Monday warranted an amber alert, i'm rather puzzled at the lack of wind warnings at the moment Feels like the pendulum swung completely the other way
  19. I'm very tempted to phone BBC Five Live after what i just heard (10:36pm) He said last night's storm "the worst to hit the Uk in years" Absolute scatter cushion... just 12 months ago, a vicious storm swept across Scotland, with winds higher than last night
  20. Good, i found the moaning thread The storm is over Sad to hear that two people lost their lives The media hype these past four days, absolutely ridicoulous !! I know it had the potential to be a very very severe storm, but in the end, a normal autumn gale, developing as it moved across the South Certainly nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year. I hope we don't have to go through this level of over-hype, everytime a low is set to come across the Uk
  21. I dozed off for a while Woke up. the wind is blasting nicely against the window Went to take a rubbish bag out Still raining too
  22. Marked increase to the wind here now. The rain is being driven into sheets
  23. I think it's because the centre is tracking right up over the south-west. The winds have really picked up down on the south coast We've got to watch out for the 'wrap around' winds from the W-NW later tonight, as the developing low continues to move NE
  24. Hey, that table and chairs should have been taken into the shed !! Yes, i've seen people doing that today... always good to be prepared, no matter what happen
