  1. I hope people are not planning to catch a train to see the damaged rail-line at Dawlish. Erm https://twitter.com/sophiepierce/status/430998381398614016/photo/1 That journey is so wonderful during calmer times, but i guess a price to be paid for putting rail tracks, right next to the ocean
  2. What a country !! The weather causes disruption, as if that's not bad enough, the tube workers are out on strike !! Loads of people may as well, have stayed in bed this morning, as they are not able to get to work Maybe my mood will improve after breakfast
  3. Got reports of Hotel in Newquay, roof partially blown off. A lot of reports of tree's down, and damage. Warnings should have gone amber earlier today, imo Look --- Ben Rich â€@ben_rich 1h No trains AT ALL in Cornwall and much of Devon until at least 9am tomorrow due to the #ukstorm: http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk Still perplexed why amber warning is only from Isle of Wight eastwards
  4. Worst of the winds, tend to be on the south flank of the low The winds are yet to shift around to the south-west, so after a lull... it's going to be round 2, in the case of the wind Do not 'unfasten' those hatches, just yet
  5. I know it's exposed. Isles of Scilly - a recent gust 78mph Seems like 80mph gusts will be topped, my gut feeling
  6. Scilly St Marys Already, mean wind speed - 43 Gust - 54 The wind is rising !! Interesting to see some lightning strikes showing on the front - further down to the south
  7. Tomasz Schafernaker Just posted this - the next storm, already looking fierce out to the west. Lots of weather to come in the days ahead https://twitter.com/Schafernaker/status/430624790282387456/photo/1
  8. Article on Torridge District Council's website re: damage to Westwood Ho! seafront, and all along the North Devon Coastline http://www.torridge.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=9911 With more storms to come, i wonder if the best move, is to fence off the danger zones. The proper repairs can't get underway, until these storms abate Good Grief !! Damage to Bucks Mills - extensive http://www.northdevonjournal.co.uk/LIVE-COVERAGE-Coastguard-urges-people-stay-safe/story-20543054-detail/story.html
  9. I went out this morning, to capture the high tide at Westwood Ho! I had to wait until it got daylight for the best footage I'm putting a playlist together, the rest of the videos to follow during the day The potential storm for next week is a worry, since it seems it will cross the Uk, rather than meander up to the north-west This video shows damage along the sea-front, and me having an eventful walk at high tide playlist http://www.youtube.com/playlist?feature=edit_ok&list=PLrq8Q990qmY4w8tJLUu6Wkrt6fvyQEQ6N
  10. Hurricane force winds likely occuring with this low... hope they remain out over the ocean !! https://twitter.com/NWSOPC/status/429440288474423296/photo/1 Animation loop to watch how the low developed http://www.opc.ncep.noaa.gov/animated_gifs/seviri_2014_02_01_0158Z.gif edit: daylight enough to shoot video. Again Burrows Flooded - Waves over Sea Wall
  11. Bitter !! Just 1c, with that south-east wind picking up This is the coldest i've felt, so far this winter White frost appearing on the cars edit for 4:20am Still only 1c out there...i guess the temps will start to rise soon This cam here, shows westward ho car park. A section is taped off, due to storm damage from earlier this month Could get real interesting again, during the coming days http://www.eyeballhq.tv/surfcheck/westward-ho/
  12. Here we go again https://twitter.com/MeteoGib/status/428600578537979904/photo/1 Recent neap tides had spared the coast, as once again massive waves were rolling in Damage to the sea wall and car park, at Westwood Ho! They are using heavy machinery to rebuild the pebble ridge Going in for another round... when the existing damage is not yet repaired
  13. Rather interesting blog post from Bryan Norcross Another Unexpected Disaster That Was Well Forecast http://www.wunderground.com/blog/bnorcross/show.html
  14. Ok, so i'm weeping into my tea-cup, at the lack of snow prospects U.S.A have stolen it all - and ramped up the atlantic storms Can always do some lamp-post watching. Lucky SOB's http://www.ustream.tv/hurricanetrack

  17. Well, i'm in a moaning mood today, i just came across this 'Mini Tornado' Sweeps Through Parts Of Britain http://news.sky.com/story/1201373/mini-tornado-sweeps-through-parts-of-britain Grrrrrrrr !! No such thing as a Mini Tornado You either have a tornado (the real deal, full size baby) or you don't The phrase 'mini tornado' 'freak tornado' should be banned !!
  18. Those famous words "still all to play for.." That's when i know it's game over
  19. Took a look at the radar at this crazy hour of the morning Very active front, by the looks of it. Has the appearance of jaws about to snap into south-west Wales Oranges & Red's This won't be good for the flooding situation
  20. A close lightning strike Cor, Blimey http://instagram.com/p/jcPkwAj24n/#
  21. 17 January 2014 (Video) http://uk.news.yahoo.com/video/severe-hailstorm-batters-lisbon-area-174711738.html
  22. Just had a glance at the radar. Looking very colourful down that way
  23. Daily Mail are running that Porthcawl lighthouse picture on their frontpage But the headline is 'thrillseekers dicing with death' Maybe so, i think it's wrong for parents to drag children around harbour walls when giant waves are crashing over them For Adults, we're responsible for ourselves, and we should know the risk we're taking.
  24. Big Waves on the North Devon Coast today. I took some video, this one is probably best for close shots of the Waves
