  1. If it looks good its good news... If not then we're still on the road to hell. Enjoy the ride......... When it all starts melting then we start to see where we are headed. I thought you'd already accepted that we're going to see huge rises in sea level due to these vast ice sheets melting? Don't tell me you've changed your mind and we're entering a big freeze? Yep... Same old same old. Eventually we'll find out how high up a hill we need to move.
  2. Second series in a row that the Beeb have ended up editing a wildlife production. Is it disputable or is the BBC just trying to please everyone? BBC On Back Foot Over David Attenborough Africa Climate Change Claim http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/02/11/bbc-david-attenborough-africa-climate-change_n_2663419.html?icid=maing-grid7%7Cuk%7Cdl1%7Csec3_lnk2%26pLid%3D153769
  3. Unfortunately we need to bare this in mind constantly. It's not just the right-wing either. I think the question that needs to be answered is "how do we present information regarding AGW in a way the Joe Blogs can understand and trust?". When information is presented like this, I blame scientists being too willing to sleep with the media in the past in the same way politicians do. The damage has been done and it's going to take a while to repair that damage.
  4. It's never been off limits here. People do have views about him and some views rightly so. I'd certainly use the names Al Gore and Piers Corbyn in the same sentence but as for what Gore has achieved, he did bring 'Global Warming' to everyone's attention, Is he ultimately incorrect? I don't think so. He very cleverly used Hollywood theatricals to try and wake up America. The UK and most of Europe had already woken up to anthropogenic problems through the second half of 70's. He woke up the debate on the subject in America, which at the end of the day was his goal. Thinking about recent surveys done in the states I'd say job done. See.. It's not all bad.
  5. Thanks FFO. I think that is what I'm trying to work out, what's happening at the boundaries?
  6. It's probably because of the meds at this time of day but I'm struggling to get my head around something. If increasing CO2 is trapping longwave radiation, shouldn't the out going energy also increase eventually, given that CO2 radiates this energy in all directions equally? Is there something else preventing this exchange to the stratosphere from happening? I would have thought CO2 in the troposphere was fairly mixed through by air movement? Genuine questions for a complicated subject btw. Edit. Just reread the links and it sort of went in. I'll try again later..
  7. I expect to see many changes in climate throughout the world in my lifetime. It's what a dynamic system does.. change. We are much colder than we should be. Climate records show that we are in an anomalous cold spell and we are now warming up to where we should be. We know the figures are correct because they are used by many climate scientists in calculating where we are headed and are well documented.
  8. Birdwatch here rendered 1 Blackbird and 1 Sparrow. Not a good one this year despite there being plenty of food out around the local area.
  9. Interesting article knocker.
  10. Headaches and thunderstorms........ There is a connection. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/01/24/thunder-lightning-headaches-migraines_n_2543434.html?1359050924&icid=maing-grid7%7Cuk%7Cdl5%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D148734
  11. I've asked this before... Is this planet we live on in anomalous cold period? According to our "accurate" climate data, YES, that is exactly where we are... Why would a dynamic system stay in anomalous state? Surely it would try to balance out it's system? Isn't that what we are seeing happen? A return to more "normal" temperatures? Does this affect our winters? Yes, of course it does. As does a quiet sun, which we will hear more about when the next IPCC report is officially released I've no doubt.
  12. On the radar, the track of the precipitation looks to be heading more inland than just sliding up the east coast as forecast. It looks like the pivot is further south and the low is struggling with the block meaning that we could see some significant snowfall East Yorks/North Lincs. Very difficult to say where for sure but something to keep an eye on.
  13. Right on the bottom edge of the heavier stuff here. Not sure if anyone has checked the Euro radar but at the moment it looks like somewhere might end up with something special. Image c/o Netweather Extra.
  14. Just been for a slide round in the van... Gave it up as a bad job. Settling well on the main roads here now.
  15. Very true. It only takes a slight change in some setups to be the difference between rain or snow as you know. Everything has to be just right. I don't think for one minute that tomorrows setup will produce rain for our location at all but I think nowcasting will show the difference in intensity.
  16. Speaking of which, the BBC forecast has changed again and their graphics show snow once again. Goes to show how difficult a situation like this is to forecast. It will do as it pleases and if you get a good covering then you got a good covering. It amuses me how some people seem to think that the models dictate the weather.......
  17. I gave up checking. My OH told me to keep the door shut. lol
  18. Just getting the odd flake of summerts here. Might be a bit frost floating around. I'm hoping it's not as deep as 2010. The kids want it half way up the door again though and I've told them they'll have to dig us out.
  19. Certainly looking like an interesting night for some of us. Just been eyeing up a bit of a streamer getting it's act together. An area of 50J/kg CAPE off the Humber estuary certainly helping with a bit of convection taking place. White world in the morning?
  20. Not Sure what you're on about Ian. Perhaps I'm interested in looking at things from different angles? By doing that, I get a better whole picture. If you read what BW and CB said at the time then you'll know that the LI project was just an idea that we could all join in with perhaps proving and disproving things along the way. This could have been great all ways round as a learning tool with regards to different components of the climate argument. It would have been a practical education. Perhaps those who objected were unsure that their side of things would hold up? Perhaps that's why some people still grumble at it's mention? Who knows? I have to admit that I'd be a bit concerned if a bunch of government paid researchers published a chart revising their original ideas into one that resembled the output of a basic mathematical function from a few years earlier...... Oh... Hang on a mo!
  21. New Leaky Integrator thread open here. http://forum.netweat...aky-integrator/ If you have a post missing from this thread, it's either in the new thread or as it was moved it lost it's context and was deleted. Apologies if yours was deleted. Please be respectful of each other if you join in. Any failing in that respect will result in a ban. Feel free to ask questions in there.
  22. So what does the sudden below average readings mean? Or is that just put down to an error?
  23. An interesting abstract. http://adsabs.harvar...AGUFMPP11A0203F I expect there will be something wrong with it.
