  1. This issue may be browser related? For me, it occurs when using Firefox and in particular when simultaneously I have additional web pages open. Clicking the “stop it” box to the right of the message seems to sort the immediate situation, although obviously not the cause of it The problem never occurs when browsing with Safari.
  2. Current heavy snow. Settling. It's starting to fill up the satellite dish, causing intermittent crashes in the TV signal, which may not be a bad thing while Boris is in full swing.
  3. Yes, Ravelin, good advice. I saw it was snowing on the Cairn webcam.
  4. Well done, aggy. Still no snow here, just light to moderate rain and it does not feel too cold either. Have to go to Ellon today and judging by the meto forecast Ellon and the A90 should be clear too, hopefully anyway.
  5. Fragmenting lenticular cloud at sunrise.
  6. Sunny, frosty, still cold but not a hint of snow. Temp -1C. Sunrise was not spectacular hereabouts, but there were some nice clouds. This lenticular had started to fragment by the time I was organised and out and about.
  7. Well, i predict zilch for my location. Funnily enough, I nipped (shouldn't be driving at the mo after recent eye op) into Edzell this morning for a few essentials, through drizzle, when a car swanned into the village with a good 1cm of snow on the bonnet. Back home, I couldn't find any radar evidence for snowy precipitation in the area? It's all very marginal, I think, for now.
  8. Nice to see a Siskin pair back at the feeders. A first spot this winter. Greenfinches, however, have been conspicuous by their absence over the past year.
  9. Nae worries, Hawsey, winter's been kind to me......so far.
  10. It was a beautiful sunny day, here. Clear sky, calm although chilly out this afternoon – temp was around 4C. Noticed several skeins of these flying overhead while on the dog walk. It won’t be long now until they start the return to their summer grounds in Iceland/Greenland etc. Currently 0C, still cloudless and a nice starry sky.
  11. Further to an interesting little piece on R4 this morning:- Scientists make tiny 3D glasses for insects to understand how they see the world A praying mantis fitted with miniature 3D glasses in a research facility at Newcastle University AFP http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/scientists-tiny-3d-glasses-insects-praying-mantises-completely-new-form-vision-newcastle-university-a8201701.html
  12. Thought I'd better take the obligatory snow snap - before it all melts away. Hawsey, your forecast appears to have been quite accurate. RScotland not reporting any travel problems on the main roads at present.
  13. I've had nothing measurable. Just maybe a cm close-by. My location is fairly well sheltered from the W/NW. Now, Easterlies and Nor'easters are a different matter. A couple of ice days though.
  14. Actually, on a serious note, M, I caught acrophobia around 20yrs ago when undertaking a minor hill walk ( I am not a mountaineer) that went completely off course due to local land slips. Ended up on a track which was one footspan wide with a serious cliff drop on one side and a bare high cliff on the other. I can still hear the fossil hunter down on the river bed tinkling way with his hammer. For me, stuff of nightmares. And the moral is. ....always prepare for the unexpected when walking in Scotland.
  15. It was such a fine day, took myself off to the Fife coast for a change. With no wind chill it felt nae caulde. The temp hovered around 7C-8C. Pottered around Crail for a while:- Room with a view/vertigo Then moved on to Kingsbarns for a walk along the coastal path and a tasty snack at the Cheese Toasty Shack. On way home the temp dropped sharply around 16.30, from 7C to 2C over a distance of 4miles or so. It's going to be a chilly night, I think.
  16. I have all but given up perusing the MOD thread, unless one or two particular posters are flagged up. The short range model discussion thread is far more informative and interesting, but then my bias is more towards understanding what drives the weather rather than hunting for any special type of weather scenario. Edit: I do acknowledge that short and medium range forecasts are important to those who rely on a specific weather type for planning purposes or for livelihood, or leisure activities.
  17. Fine morning. Calm, partial cloud cover, frosty, temp -1C. Sunrise on the morning dog walk.
  18. A nice mixed flock of Fieldfares and Starlings in the garden this morning.
  19. Just had a brief hail shower. Currently, stratus, temp 0C with a slight waft from the north. It's true that I dislike severe cold, snow and ice, but for those who do, I don't see the point of wasting precious time by projecting their weather preferences days or weeks ahead. Just deal with, or enjoy whatever.
  20. Took advantage of a fine afternoon. SWT Balgavies was stowed out, with no room in the tiny carpark, and so moved on to a local pond. The Heron was so relaxed he only occasionally came out from under his wing for a quick scan of the scene. Tufftie on a mission Black- headed Gull showing signs of summer plumage Argumentative Coots And a couple of pairs of Gooseanders
  21. Nice morning. Sunny, temp5C and a slight breeze from the north. A few birds twittering and a lark has been singing. Decisions, decisions. Should I roll my sleeves up and do a spot of gardening this afternoon, have a leisurely couple of hours at SWT Montrose or Balgavies or take doggie for a long walk? Suppose I may have to batten down the hatches in a few days time.
  22. Yep, I was up in Peterhead this morning. Squally, heavy sleet/rain showers were the order of the day, there and back. To make matters worse, had a close call with three deer near Bridge of Dye and an even closer one with half a dozen or so red-legs which decided to scarper across the carriageway. Still a howling gale back home and rain is battering down. Can't wait for green shoots of spring
  23. At home location, clear sky, 1C, calm and frost free. However, off shortly to Roslin for doggie's check-up. Should I take the car or the truck?
  24. After a grey start to the day, the skies cleared around mid-day and so decided to have a sunny dog walk in Glen Tanar. It was windy and felt cold, although the car registered a temp of 9C. Half way up the hill to the viewpoint, a thin veil of cloud spun seemingly out of nowhere and gave me a proper drenching for a couple of minutes or so before disappearing - returned to car. Currently, back at home, 6C and looking just a wee bit unsettled and probably showery.
