  1. I have noticed this feature, not only here, but also on other threads in other sections of the forum as well.
  2. Just a couple of pics from today of a couple of common-or-garden birds (through window). Heard the woodie drumming this afternoon when out with dog, also the bluetit singing. Spring not far away.
  3. I haven't stepped outside again, but peering through the window.....still light drizzle. That particular webcam you linked to pictures the northern snow-gate on the Cairn. There was another webcam on the southern gate at Clattering Brig, but I haven't been able to be able to access it recently. It might be out of order at the moment.
  4. I must live in one of the few current snow-free areas in Scotland. The radar indicated there might have been some white stuff falling this afternoon - but no - all is green and brown, around here. Just ventured to the wood shed to stock up on the evening log supply and a fine drizzle is falling. However, spent last night in Glasgow, visiting rels, and the journey home this afternoon was slow and extremely unpleasant. Heavy snow on leaving Glasgow around mid-day until the Perthshire section of the A9, followed by a light flurry of wet stuff in Dundee. According to the car, temp varied from -3C - 0C along the route. There were many gritters on duty, though, which obviated possible major traffic problems. 0C here at present with little wind. Overcast.
  5. In the interest of balance, , I can't wait for signs of spring. Actually, it was a bright day here, today. I heard a Bluetit singing, when out walking with doggie, which reminded me to clear out the birdbox soon.
  6. Me, zilch. I'm quite pleased that the SE "grumpies" protect from WNW incoming blows.
  7. Actually, I stopped off at the Lecht caffe on the way home, but it was good to watch groups of school children being introduced to snow sports.
  8. Happy to report that there has been nae snaw in my location. i.e. Edzell/ Fettercairn I did venture into deep Moray, yesterday on work related stuff. The Lecht looked promising for snow sport lovers.
  9. Bright clear morning so far here, after a frosty night. Temp 0C and a light WSW breeze. Some ominous clouds gathering out to the west - we'll see. For my neck of the woods, according to the rain radar, the snow showers appear to be petering out east of a line approx. Aboyne - Blairgowrie.
  10. While raking about in "tinypic" looking for the Goldcrest photo, I came across several pics I had completely forgotten about. I did particularly like these twin roe deer kids which made daily appearances in the neighbourhood over the spring and summer (2014, I think). Again, the photo is somewhat distorted.
  11. They are tricky. One that appeared in the garden recently but only paid a fleeting visit. This pic is from 2014. It was never a good shot, (best not enlarged) but has become even more distorted by transferring it from “tinypic,”where I used to store photos, to Lightroom. On that occasion the bird stayed around for about 6 weeks feeding regularly on suet cake and roosting in the hedge.
  12. Passed through Glenshee yesterday en route to Linn o' Dee for a walk. It was absolutely mobbed, but great to see the slopes so busy, with lots of families having fun. As you say, though, it was bitter. The car registered -5C mid afternoon.
  13. Had the first serious snow experience in recent years. It was raining in Banchory (3C) earlier this afternoon and so decided to return home over the B974. I should have known better, but the thought of negotiating Aberdeen traffic on a Friday afternoon was not appealing! White-out conditions developed after passing the Glen Dye snow-gate and not long after, the driver of some sort of estate car in front decided to attempt a u-turn on a narrow section of the road, on a hill and a few yards from a bend. After about 10 points to-ing and fro-ing and still at right angles to the carriageway, the inevitable happened – a car travelling in the opposite direction, downhill, rounded the bend, and being unable to brake or swerve banged into rear end of said car and careered onto the verge straight in my direction. It came to a halt a few yards in front of me, luckily. Also, fortunately no serious casualty resulted. The moral of the tale is, never underestimate the dangers of unpredictable weather conditions in Scotland. The white landscape was pretty, though -
  14. Just reminds me, on the last really cold December my (long gone) cattie presented a robin through the flap on xmas morning. Bringing weather things up to date, my location, for now, has avoided snow, prolonged ice days and severe gales. Roll on spring and more daylight.
  15. Ratty helping him/herself this afternoon. Think I'll have to move the hangers to a more open area and get a feeding pole.
  16. A nice crisp day. Blue sky mainly, with some Sc over the hills, temp around 2C and the slightest of breeze from the NW. Have to admit I'm a wee bit scared to view the radar!
  17. Love haggis, but I'll reserve that meal, along with neeps and tatties for later in January. Season's greetings to you, and all others who keep this thread an inclusive Scottish place to be.
  18. Slight overnight frost, but now around 10C, , partial cloud cover and a breeze from the west. The range of yesterday's temps were notable, - 3C early morning at home and 11C a couple of hours or so later in Co'path. One from an ice day earlier this week: Lochnagar from Glen Muick
  19. I "notice" it around 7th Jan., depending on weather conditions.

  21. My back yard was lethal this morning. I watched a funny moment, though, when two pheasants, in full tilt, tried to run across. Temp recently 1C with a slight northerly breeze.
  22. Yes, Mr Frost. I travelled through Glencoe, Rannoch Moor and Tyndrum this morning. The views were stunning with bright sunshine reflecting off the snow and glassy lochans.
