Birmingham is going to get absolutely nailed in the next 30 mins/hour. As cells continue to develop to east of main cell.

Big storm going up southeast of Worcester by the looks of things.
Yes! Most potent shower of the day so far, shows the conditions are there and being utilized.

Haven't been around a while, however back to storm season and possibly something quite juicy today.
Already some early morning convection stretching from Portsmouth towards Brighton, according to AROME these will be the main focal for today as they head NNW.
-
Might be a decent day according to ESTOFEX:
.... UK and Ireland ....
Under the core of the cold trough (even -38oC at 500 hPa), Ireland and the UK will be under the influence of strong N-NW flow. Strong surface fluxes are expected over the ocean, providing moisture to the lowest levels which can feed the instability over land, where diabatic heating of the land will provide lift to unstable air masses. Locally large amounts of small hail/graupel (even if storm cells will be moving fast) are expected, but also strong to severe wind gusts can verify, especially in Ireland in the afternoon, where there is a mid-level jet streak. -
Whilst there is meant to be heavy precipitation over Reading, barely a flake falling from the sky atm.
-
A sleety mix here which is disappointing as its some of the most intense precipitation we've had all day.
-
Dew point here in Reading is 0.1'c with air temperature of 0.8'c

I think PPN is starting to slowly dissipate now. We could be stuck under it for a while yet but looks like it's easing slowly.
This is crazy, just stop snowing; just seen an on-site security block try to clear his car and he just didn't bother!
-
Visibility has significantly reduced in last 15 minutes, almost whiteout! Accumulations of 7-8cm in places more than I expected. Probably one more hour of this and then game over?

Coming down harder than ever now and wind has picked up too. Looks great out there!
I've really needed to go bed, but this area of snow has been keeping me on guard!

Still coming down nicely here. Probably around a 6.5 on the Murr scale.
Definitely, paths and roads are well gritted on campus but they are finally beginning to get a dusting.

Ah! It's a nice campus. What's the temperature reading there?
Temperature: 0.0'c, Dew-Point: -0.9'c, Surface Temps all at 0.0'c.

Temperature has edged up to 0 here in Three Mile Cross, but still reading a dew point of -2. Snow is back up to 5 on the Murr scale, so snow getting heavier again.
Are you on campus at REading Uni?
Yeah I am on campus in halls of residence, using the Reading observatory as my data atm.

Anyone else staying up until the heavy snow stops? I should sleep but if it keeps up I won't be getting to work anyway.

Dew point and temperature have gotten warmer over the last few years, fingers crossed the snow flakes become bigger and wetter.
