Another beauty of a day here Enjoying the sunshine, more please.
-
Started off mainly cloudy here with the sun trying to peek through, frost on the grass. Now foggy. Temp 0C.
-
Why are you and others saying that there will be a snowfest in N.France??? With the feed straight down through central Europe will only be dry and bitterly cold, yes the coldest uppers may advect south of the BI but that does'nt necessarily mean snow for them............
There is nothing to suggest a 'snow fest' in N France IMHO, looks like a mainly dry cold-ish spell to my eyes. Hopefully a SUNNY one! Very bored of cloud.

Sooo....are us SE'erners in for snow this week/weekend? Looking at the charts colder weather seems likely. But how cold?
-
So far it's a big " I told ya so "
I'd rather it be a " I was wrong "
pah!
My thinking exactly
-
I think you need to wait and see GFS 18Z currently updating with easterly flow from 96hrs rain to snow Sunday evening and still has cold easterly at 156 hrs with cold uppers. All the usual reservations apply it is the pub run and it is still a while away but certainly worth watching as all three main models now singing pretty much from the same hymn sheet..
Definitely worth watching, yes, though none of the charts (even ECM) are showing decent cold. Slush is not my idea of fun (unless its a slush-puppie of course )

Cold rain on Monday folks
Agree. Think the snow threat has been a bit overblown to be honest. Daytime temps are progged to be well above freezing all through the period. Even with air coming in from the Continent. The temps there are currently much the same as here, unless they drop dramatically in the next few days all I can see is rain/sleet, any snowfall melting immediately. Better to just rain in that sort of scenario!

Wow, pretty lively shower just passing over, heavy rain and very squally winds

short ensembles are fine
going to stick with ecm and fax charts for now
the ensembles are good for guides but the gfs main run changes more than i change my socks
What do you think of tomorrow and Saturdays synoptics? Any chance of snow?

Sunshine! How I've missed you

Roll on feb
No marginality hopefully
And our cold uppers from the east would be far better IMO ( if it happens )
Never quit got cold enough this time around
No frosts or snow freeze
And no unstable air affecting our snow machine ie the North Sea
It was a good cold spell
But not great
Agree, was a good cold-ish spell and witnessed 2 decent snowfalls, had fun Big letdown was lack of proper cold, leading to a lot of thawing when not snowing (95% of snow gone here by Fri). Hopefully Feb will give us a week or two of very cold and snowy weather. In the meantime I'm fine with mild, bills will be bad enough already lol.

That big 'clump' of ppn In Berkshire/ S Bucks is about to hit London... Fingers, toes and eyes crossed eh?
Lol, can cross everything but it will still be rain
-
Chucking it down with rain here, very gusty wind. Can't see this turning to snow?! Maybe east of London
-
Rain started here a few minutes ago As expected tbh.
-
This could be a good sign the temps dropping, the front dragging in the cold air from the near continent!
Looks possible though temps still up at 2C in our area mate plus precip dying out.
-
Doesn't look like there is much precip heading our way?
-
We're picking up a SE'ly wind off of a pretty chilly continent...could be more snow than I originally thought.
-
So what would you rather?
1. Snow for a few hours then rain?
2. Just plain boring rain
I'll take number 1 thanks!
The mild spells coming like it or not! Why not welcome it with snow instead of rain!!!
Well, as its coming in late at night I don't really care tbh, as by morning there won't be any snow. Would be different in the daytime and I always love seeing snow fall, but when it turns to rain and slush immediately after getting a covering I'd rather it just rained. Just my opinion!
-
Yes not sure what the excitement is for tomorrow night when it's going to quickly turn to rain or just start as rain anyway, plus it's not going to arrive til late...unless of course the front stalls and drags in the colder air on the near continent.
-
Hopefully will just rain here, snow to rain events are yucky and a waste of good snow
-
Snow nearly all gone here, temp at 1C and has stayed above freezing for 2 days now. Yawn!
-
Snowing moderately here
-
So not a great deal of excitement for 70% of the people in this region, geographically speaking?
No, not very exciting. Had a similar event here in Feb 2007, short cold snap, snowed heavily one morning after 2 very cold nights. Managed a decent covering but then rain set in after lunch and washed it all away...vile!
-
Mr Hammond just showed snow over the whole of country apart from south of the m4 on Friday afternoon " quote heavy distruptive snow !
WATCH THIS SPACE !
Interesting, though sounds like a snow to rain scenario, yuk. Would be better if it just rained.

It's not been that bad. Seen some quite heavy bursts of snow especially today which has been nice. Even better is the low humidity which means nice, dry surfaces, no awful slush, damp etc.
I don't think Winter is over til late March, could be surprises this year, who knows. Personally, I hope Spring comes soon, had quite enough of cold and grey. Those sunny days last week were lovely!
