  1. Well my vibes got at least one of the summer months right.
  2. No, June 1985 and 2023 are poles apart and July 1985 looks like ending up a better month overall than this July. If August 2023 is an exact repeat of August 1985.......
  3. Wettest July now since 2010 That dry period seems an age ago. It actually ended around the 9th of June, three weeks of no rain up to that point.

  5. It was pretty decent but did have a poor mid month. It only reached 14°C on the 16th August 1990
  6. After the terrible weekend, a bit of nostalgia. The August of 1995, what a month that was From the Manchester Evening News Liverpool Echo
  7. June ended up not being that especially dry anyway. Local variations as always but June 2015 has a lower rainfall total than June 2023 for England and Wales.
  8. Blackpool Airport has recorded 70mm up to 7pm this evening in the last 48 hrs, according to weatheronline
  9. I recall a post last month saying no point of building more reservoirs if it doesn't rain often enough. That poster must think the UK has been turned into the Atacama desert in June. It really looks ridiculous now that post. It does rain often enough in the UK!!

  11. I point out that the same poster said they expect to see a winter with regular 20C+ this decade in a post earlier in the week. And they are complaining about exaggeration?
  12. Last time the Open was played at Hoylake in 2014, didn’t they reschedule the tee offs because of the weather warning threat for thunderstorms? In the end there were no storms or at least not during play.
  13. Its not a mass of heavy rain, live 9 miles from the ground to the west and by the looks of the radar it looks as though the bulk of the rain will pass through soon. So just hope there could be even be just an hour of play, today.
  14. The contrast between July and August 1936 was stark especially when it came to rainfall totals July 1936 CET: 15.3 August 1936 CET: 16.1 July 1936 rainfall for England and Wales: 138.0mm August 1936 rainfall for England and Wales: 28.4mm Rainfall in % terms for July 1936 England and Wales: 191% Scotland: 150% Ireland: 197% British Isles: 182% For August 1936 England and Wales: 39% Scotland: 70% Ireland: 45% British Isles: 48% Ross-on-Wye July: 147.3mm August: 5.8mm Holne July: 272.8mm August: 13.2mm Sunshine July 1936 Aberdeen 138hrs (-13) Dublin: 116hrs (-56) Chester: 127hrs (-33) Ross-on-Wye: 125hrs (-63) Kew: 139hrs (-56) Sunshine August 1936 Aberdeen: 177hrs (+38) Dublin: 169hrs (+13) Chester: 180hrs (+26) Ross-on-Wye: 185hrs (+18) Kew: 185hrs (+2) July 1936 was cyclonic dominated with above average rainfall, little sunshine and low maxima although minima were above average often.
