  1. Warmest first quarter was January to March 1990It would require a record smashing March to break this. I don't think likely.
  2. 3. Despite the mildness of the winter, spring doesn't seem to be that advanced here. Snowdrops out, daffodils are not far off blooming but I have seen them earlier than this.
  4. 5. Good twilight to the west. What is notable is that the glow extends to the NNW horizon as well. A sign that the sun's apparent movement northwards.
  6. What is the betting that tomorrow morning, the start of spring, will be the coldest minimum since before winter?
  7. Wettest winter on record for England and Wales by a margin at that. At least 3rd wettest season on record for England and Wales.February 2014 looks like it could be joining the top 10 wettest February list.
  8. I saw more snow falling in this shower last March and longer in duration than at any stage during this winter just ending.
  9. No frost, no lying snow, I can't see anything wintry happening rest of day. I have never experienced a winter so devoid of wintry elements. I reckon least wintry winter since at least WWII Least wintriest winters of recent times 2013-14: 7 1988-89: 20 2006-07: 21 1997-98: 25 1974-75: 26 1989-90: 26 1973-74: 30 1987-88: 37 2007-08: 37 1991-92: 40 1975-76: 41 1999-00: 42 1992-93: 43 2002-03: 44 1994-95: 45 1998-99: 47 2004-05: 47 2011-12: 47 2001-02: 50 2003-04: 50
  10. Paulo of UKWeatherworld, who is also from Heswall saw it.
  11. Wettest winters on record for England and Wales 443.8 2013-14 up to 26th February 423.0 1914-15 Wettest seasons on record for England and Wales: W for winter, S for summer, A for autumn A 502.7 2000 A 455.8 1852 W 443.8 2013-14 Wettest February on record for England and Wales (mm) 158.6 1833 152.7 1923 143.6 1950 143.2 1990 143.2 1977 142.1 1937 132.0 1916 131.7 1900 130.0 1848 129.6 1966 129.1 1768 126. Up to 26th February .
  12. Lingering twilight season is only about 2 or so months away now.
  13. A faint twilight glow to the west northwest even at 7pm.
  14. We could get a similiar temperature but it could be far wintrier than this one. It hasn't been the mildest but it has been the least wintriest winter I have experienced here. It shows that temperature although plays a part, it is not the be all end all.
  15. Hopefully we will get more of a typical spring this year. Recently, we have had some seasons that have been totally out of kilt. Last "spring" was one, this "winter" just on its way out, the "summer" of 2012, the "autumn" of 2011.
  16. Impossible to get above the 1988-89 value. The least wintriest winter for decades here.
  17. Wettest winters on record for England and Wales 436.8 2013-14 up to 25th February 423.0 1914-15 Wettest seasons on record for England and Wales: W for winter, S for summer, A for autumn A 502.7 2000 A 455.8 1852 A 438.6 1960 W 436.8 2013-14 Wettest February on record for England and Wales (mm) 158.6 1833 152.7 1923 143.6 1950 143.2 1990 143.2 1977 142.1 1937 132.0 1916 131.7 1900 130.0 1848 129.6 1966 129.1 1768 124.2 1925 123.5 1915 119. 2014 up to 25th February
  18. This was the last occasion that a centre of high pressure sat over some part of the UK, 12 weeks ago And there is no sign in the near future.
  19. It seems appropriate, unfortunately, that the last day of the meteorological winter should end with a low pressure tracking across the areas that were hit hardest this winter, flood wise. A final signature to what has been an atrocious winter. It could push precipitation totals up so that we end with another "top 10" month.
  20. Wettest winters on record for England and Wales 434.8 2013-14 up to 24th February 423.0 1914-15 Wettest seasons on record for England and Wales: W for winter, S for summer, A for autumn A 502.7 2000 A 455.8 1852 A 438.6 1960 W 434.8 2013-14 Wettest February on record for England and Wales (mm) 158.6 1833 152.7 1923 143.6 1950 143.2 1990 143.2 1977 142.1 1937 132.0 1916 131.7 1900 130.0 1848 129.6 1966 129.1 1768 124.2 1925 123.5 1915 117. 2014 up to 24th February
  21. Here's a grim stat, the total from 12th December to now has exceeded the old record of 1914-15. 12th December is when it all started. 12th December to 11th March is going to be an interesting total, this is the same length of time as a meteorological winter except in leap years.
  22. Wettest winters on record for England and Wales 430.8 2013-14 up to 23rd February 423.0 1914-15 Wettest seasons on record for England and Wales: W for winter, S for summer, A for autumn A 502.7 2000 A 455.8 1852 A 438.6 1960 W 430.8 2013-14 Wettest February on record for England and Wales (mm) 158.6 1833 152.7 1923 143.6 1950 143.2 1990 143.2 1977 142.1 1937 132.0 1916 131.7 1900 130.0 1848 129.6 1966 129.1 1768 124.2 1925 123.5 1915 116.0 1918 115.3 1812 115.1 2002 114.9 1995 114.1 1851 114.0 1823 113.5 1776 113. 2014. Up to 23rd February
  23. Did it?There was no fog, little frost, snow, thunder, hail, prolonged dry spells and small temperature variations. At least around here. From 12th December, it has been rain, rain and rain basically. The odd gale thrown in but it hasn't been that windy, it's not been a late January- February 1990.
