  1. Really looking forward to this cold spell. Some areas could see lots of snow, some hardly any but I think we'll all see some. All kicking off from Saturday night with snow showers or longer spells of snow coming in from the east then later in the week a strong chance of battleground snow as fronts try to push into the cold air from the south west. I think the cold air will be very hard to shift so these events could be good. All in all an exciting and maybe memorable spell of weather coming up.
  2. Some of the negativity on here this morning is astounding. The models are showing a cold/very cold spell coming up, south included. For lovers of cold there's plenty of reasons to be cheerful and nothing to be negative about.
  3. After an hour of light to moderate snow its picked up in intensity and started settling in Yate.
  4. I must admit I'm not holding my breath although I think it'll turn to snow as it clears maybe.
  5. Haha half in half out! I'm in the far north east tip of Yate so I'm in!
  6. Blimey just drove a mile now down to this! How accurate I don't know.
  7. I kid you not, the last 45 minutes here have been some of the heaviest, non marginal snow I've seen for a long time.
  8. Wow, just wow. The air is thick with huge flakes. I can only describe the last half hour as getting absolutely pummelled.
  9. After half an hour of light to moderate snow Yate has been getting a right pasting for the last 20 minutes. A nice covering now.
  10. It looks like arriving in Yate bang on 5am just as the street light goes on outside my house. Perfect!
  11. The saying is correct surely, as the days get longer from around Xmas in December, and January and February are on average colder months than December.
  12. Morning all. An interesting tweet from Fergie. Hopefully some tasty, wintry charts will emerge over the next few days that will bring the snow starved south into the mix, not just the north. Fingers crossed. Ian Fergusson @fergieweather 9hReplying to @TimmyTour Actually I'm unconvinced by current longer-lead daily output (of main operational centres) & any milder phases may prove transient. Priming for colder outbreaks seems omnipresent frm later nxt week into Feb: we need to be vigilant for sudden further switches in med-range emphasis.
  13. A lot to be positive about this morning with upgrades in the model output and Fergie's tweet favouring much colder outbreaks from the end of next week into February. I would wager on some very tasty, wintry charts to start appearing in the next few days which will bring the whole of the country into the mix, not just the north.
  14. I agree, I always back the met office. The models will probably upgrade again later but maybe not to the siberian weather some seem to hope for. The main problem being this is Britain, not Siberia! In saying that I still think this winter will end up on the cold side with plenty of snow chances for all.
  15. Good morning all. I asked a question on the model output thread that got lost in the frenzy of posting going on there, so was wondering if anyone on here could help me out. I was wondering what the OP and control runs were and whether they were somehow more powerful or reliable than the rest of the ensembles? A very novice question I know but thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.
  16. Hi a real novices question here but is the OP any different to any other of the ensembles. Is it in any way more reliable or just another ensemble run?
  17. A lovely surprise, have woken up to settling snow in Yate, coming down steadily.
  18. I'm just keeping my eye on that showery band of sleet and snow coming over from Wales. I thought the Brecons might swallow up what was destined for the Bristol area but it appears to be making it over them and maybe even intensifying a touch.
