  1. The only thing that may scupper that is more overnight cloud. Around here it's not meant to drop much below freezing because of cloud cover but maximums tomorrow day time are meant to be very low for the same reason. It would be nice to see something fall out of that aforementioned cloud It's been a very dry cold spell here.
  2. It may be wishful thinking but I believe the block. It's not going to be resolved for a few days so it's going to keep us on our toes. In the meantime a a few days of seasonal cold, frosty weather to enjoy is nailed on.
  3. To add to my post above all models, bar the gfs, point to snow chances for many at the start of next week with the cold to continue. Exciting times for cold lovers.
  4. A beautiful frosty morning here in Thornbury. I can see the temperature not getting above 3c here now for the next week at least. Still hoping and I think a fair chance of that low at the start of next week coming south and giving us all a good dumping with the cold staying entrenched thereafter. A very different winter on the cards this year.
  5. And I should imagine as we get deeper into winter those cold shots would get much colder.
  6. A lot of uncertainty in the models after day six. Until then we have a week of cold seasonal weather with nice frosty mornings and snow for some and then possible heavy snow for many during next week. After that no one knows. It could go milder it could stay cold. We'd have killed for this at the start of winter. What's not to like.
  7. I would take a punt at it coming further south with cold air becoming entrenched again behind it. It may be wishful thinking but perfectly possible looking at some of the output.
  8. That dumped 70cm in some areas in South Wales and the west country. Anything half as good as that again would be amazing. I was just thinking some of these model outputs are reminding me a bit of the late 70s/early 80s.
  9. Lovely to look at but still six days away. If that comes into the reliable I'll be getting very excited.
  10. Yep it's going to put a real strain on power. Imagine if we have large power outages with freezing temperatures outside. There will be complete uproar.
  11. I'm not overly concerned if milder air gets in at some point this winter, which it will. In my experience an early cold shot often leads to another at some point pretty soon after. December 81/ January 82 for example and if it's half as good as that winter coldies are laughing
  12. Is the improvement in the models from the cold from the north now not getting cut off and the low to the south west now not making inroads too much? Cheers.
  13. I've heard the GEM is held in high regard amongst the pros. Let's hope it's got this nailed.
  14. Is that low even feasible Mike and is that the main threat to a longer cold spell?
  15. It's already been pretty chilly down here the last few days with much colder weather to come. I'm hoping to see plenty of frost, freezing fog and snow over December but am just happy to see some nice seasonal weather. The mod thread gets a bit mad sometimes but I just love the enthusiasm of everyone and the indepth analysis of the more knowledgable posters. Here's to a nice seasonal December and Xmas period with plenty of snowy surprises.
  16. Am I right in thinking it's advanced more south and east bringing everyone back into the game?
  17. Well the BBC weather presenter seems bright and breezy this morning talking about colder weather and snow for some next week. Am I right in thinking the BBC use the ECM for their forecasts and Is the ECM the only tool at their disposal?
  18. Yep I wouldn't be worrying about anything past days 6 or 7. The cold is definitely coming. Get the cold in first and we know the rest
  19. I've heard it said on here before by a few posters that a proper severe cold spell is becoming impossible without a SSW. Well this up and coming cold spell could put that theory to bed.
  20. The ecm has been steadfast in predicting a cold spell and now with the other models starting to follow suit and the met office updates getting more wintry by the day, I believe a cold spell is now on the way. How severe yet to be revealed but so much to be excited about if you're a lover of proper winter weather. Bring it on
