  1. Is it my imagination but the morning runs never seem as good as the evening runs, from a cold lovers perspective, so hopefully later things will be looking a bit brighter and snowier!
  2. Just back from a ten mile round trip and the amount of debris on the roads is quite impressive. Anything from twigs and small branches to a couple of small trees, plus a couple of wheelie bins and peoples recycling!
  3. Very strong sustained winds here for the last couple of hours with some very cold air digging in now. Quite impressive. It must be pretty wild further north/north east.
  4. As winter approaches I see hair being pulled out and some toys already flying in the model output thread as people react from run to run. I just keep thinking back to Fergies winter forecast of plenty of northern blocking, winds coming in from a northerly direction with below average temperatures and the chance of even colder outbreaks later in the winter. I'm seeing nothing in the general model output that makes me doubt this forecast. From a cold lovers perspective I see lots to look forward to this winter.
  5. The models now showing plenty of northern blocking are tying in with the winter forecast given by our local weatherman Fergie a couple of weeks ago. Of course nothing is guaranteed but with the Atlantic having been pretty dead for months now and northern blocking already appearing I feel that there is now strong chance of a cold/very cold winter ahead. We're certainly due one.
  6. Yep very positive. Here's a link Gloucester - BBC Weather WWW.BBC.CO.UK 14-day weather forecast for Gloucester.
  7. I'm not sure but I'll have whatever they're pushing
  8. Our local weatherman Fergie just gave a very interesting winter forecast on our local news. Nov/Dec/Jan expect below average temperatures with plenty of northern blocking with the chance of even colder outbreaks Jan/Feb. Very positive for cold lovers.

  10. I was 12 at the time but remember it well. We were living out in the sticks just north of Bristol. 40cm of level snow and drifts way higher than the hedgerows. We were snowed in down our lane from Saturday until towards the end of the following week. The week off school was fun to say the least.
  11. If I could travel back to a time in my life time it would be to Jan 8th 1982. The two day blizzard that hit the west country and south Wales. I was living just north of Bristol and it snowed heavily from Friday evening until Sunday evening with the temperature never rising above minus 3 and a strong easterly wind. When all was said and done in dumped 40cm of level snow where I was living with huge drifts. There was much more, as much as 80cm of level snow on some of the hillier parts of South Wales and the west country. As a 12 year old lad I loved it and the week off school was fun! I've experienced some heavy snowfalls since but really nothing that came close to that.
  12. I must say here in the west country the weather has been pretty dull and mild lately with not a lot going on, with more of the same forecast for the next couple of weeks. Just normal I s'pose. Oh well, down in this part of the world there's little to no chance of cold weather delivering anything of much interest at this time of year. Personally for me I look forward to the start of December, with the very short days and the chance of much colder weather. Get this mild weather out of the way and bring on a bitterly cold winter I say. Something like 62/63. It will happen again one day. I can dream!
  13. Yep I'm in Thornbury and nothing here. Oh well potential for some cracking storms later in the week.
  14. A thunderstorm has bubbled up over the last hour just over the bridge in South Wales. This could be of interest to people in the north of the region this afternoon.
  15. I do enjoy your posts. Always moaning but hey this is the moans and ramps thread. Well I'm going to ramp. With the weather here warm and humid in any sunny spells and being in a convergence zone I have my hopes up for some pretty decent storms in the area this afternoon and evening. A few banging storms would liven up what has so far been a pretty mundane/normal summer. Fingers crossed.
  16. A really warm, humid feel here just north of Bristol when the sun comes out. This convergence zone is interesting and I have high hopes of some decent storms in the area this afternoon and evening. It would be nice to liven up what has been a fairly mundane summer so far with some banging storms. Fingers crossed.
  17. Personally I like the UK climate. In general not too hot and not too cold but with the potential to get very hot or very cold at times. This makes the weather, in the main, bearable but also brings a lot of interest in the extremes when they do occur as they're unusual.
  18. I'm taking a punt at a cool, wet summer in general with only limited warmer spells. Fortunately for heat lovers I'm no expert and will probably be proved totally wrong!
  19. Funnily enough I am also moving, probably sometime in March, awaiting completion now and I'm also moving somewhere a bit higher just north of Wotton Under Edge. Good luck with the move.
  20. It was still bloody cold here in South Glos in the wind at 5am this morning. Temperatures now on the up and staying up for the foreseeable. I have a feeling though that winter is not quite done with us. I'm going for a very cold and snowy spell at the very end of Feb start of March. I'm certainly no expert, just an optimist with a hunch. In what has been a relatively cold but relatively snowless winter here in the west country, one last cold blast and I'll be happy to see spring.
