  1. Hello Shotski, I too have massive amounts of spawn this year. On doing some research, the consensus is, leave well alone, you can never have enough spawn. It is a survival/balance thing. Spawn can be clumps of up to 2000 potential frogs, but on balance, only 5 of those will make it to adulthood. Also, moving spawn from one pond to another can both spread plant and 'frog' viruses unwittingly. Sounds like your pond has the right environment and is the nearest in the vicinity, hence the deluge! But, as with all nature, most of your spawn will become food for other predators in your pond and the few will move on. Just my thoughts on it. Weather - 'the fog' was with us all day, made me think of my humble meeting with Sir James Herbert just over a year ago, he was a gracious and witty gentleman who shared some intimate thoughts about his writing. At college in the beautiful and historic Stanmer Park, it clung to the woodlands and was quite beautiful, if a little cold, as we wandered the site pruning species roses and put our backs into a bit of manual labour rotavating and double digging. Glad the weekend is upon us!
  2. Looks completely battered by winter and needs a coppice! The fog really decended, looks bleak, so hopefully more mild will hurry the leaves.
  3. Afternoon all Had to make a trip along Brighton Seafront at around 12.15 to drop off a funding bid. From a lovely temp of around 16 c in my garden, it got noticeably cooler as I neared the palace Pier, around 12 c (so my car says), both the lovely Victorian ladies were completely shrouded in cold dense fog and the sea was not visible. Bid dropped off and back along the busy seafront, the fog was starting to slowly move inland. On a split shift, so off into the garden for a couple of hours before 'nose back to the grind-stone' time. Enjoy your respective afternoon's everyone. EDIT: AS - that's exactly as it is today, hanging heavily over the sea and encompassing it all, but visibly drawing inland in waves almost!
  4. I am not a follower of football, but, as to the being excited about something which, to others may seem insignificant, I am in polytunnel heaven and can't wait to stock it...what makes you happy in life is important, no matter the significance to others methinks. Enjoy the match Charltonkerry. Still registering a 10.7 c here.
  5. Could work well as a 'blasphemous word' I suppose. Example: What the Brassica are you on about :-). But no, I meant these
  6. lovely Day here, still registering 12 c outside! @Tamara, wonderful garden you have there, looks really established. And Ian, fantastic photographs! Spent the afternoon installing my new growing area, an 18ft x 7.5 ft poly tunnel, the mini-beasts are not destroying my brassicas again :-)

    Purbeck Sunset

Really beautiful sunset, great silhouette of the buildings and trees.
  9. Here you go MAF, your bright Star is below. I've no idea where the space station is though :-)http://earthsky.org/tonight
  10. Hi Leigh, Harry Ramsdens is the best place on the seafront, near the Palace Pier, fair prices for the quality. Or there is a fish and chip shop under the arches down the stairs to the left of the pier, though not as good quality/quantity, but okay if you just want a quick supper on the beach. Or if you decide against fish and chips, I would go to Bill's a unique little place to eat about 10 minute walk from the front, just past the Pavillion. If you are coming by car, you could travel along to the Marina, they have a selection of restaurants including a fish restaurant with nice views and free parking. Links below enjoy your day :-)http://www.harryramsdens.co.uk/england/brighton & http://bills-website.co.uk/restaurants/brighton/ & http://www.brightonmarina.co.uk/eat-and-drink/the-brasserie-fish-grill.aspx
  11. Ah, the perils/love of children helping, bless em. My Daughter came on a jaunt to the garden centre afew months ago. Upon loading the boot with my goodies, Daughter helpfully slammed the boot shut, without considering spatial awareness, and my head still very near to the boot....It hit me right to the side of my head full on, Everyone else panicked as I wandered to the passenger side murmuring, it's all fine, I'm fine! Blood trickling down my face. I wanted to make light of it, so as to not make her feel bad, but their faces and other people in the car park looked otherwise! Now, when we go shopping, I joke, your not gonner knock me out again are you?!
  12. Lovely day today, certainly lifted my spirit. Been poorly for afew days (1st time I've taken sick leave from work in years). There's only so many boxed sets one can watch! So potted about in the garden enjoying some Vitamin D sunshine. Best to all, have a nice rest of the evening :-)
  13. Hi, just a question, as I'm trying to learn abit more. Are you talking about the line forming near Guernsey
  14. It might sounds a tadge nuts, but the bumblebee might need alittle help - this link tells you what you can do, if you find a grounded Bee at this time of year. http://www.bumblebee.org/helpbees.htm#flyThe rain hasn't reached us thus far. Although as others are reporting, the gusts are getting more pronounced and prolonged. It is 8 degrees, although the wind chill is making it feel a lot colder.
  15. Ah, okay, well the software seems to do just as well! Cheers Alix.
  16. This infrared? Has a great juxtaposition with the cloud formations and sculpture.
  17. @Iceni, sorry to hear that, bloody frustrating when you expected seasoned. Had my wood burner put in beginning of December, so a new learning curve for me, I brought a cubic metre of 'seasoned Oak' which was so wet, had to put it in the log store and buy from another place to see us through. I'm still trying to understand how best to use the vent, air system to get the most heat input. One eventful hail event during this afternoon and some driving rain and now a fair 3.7 degrees. Have a good weekend all.
  18. Sorry Jax for my car rants, went round the top gear track last year in a Ferrari 430 with some pretty fierce wind gusts. But I digress, 1.7 degrees here currently and off to bed :-)
  19. Had a cooper (expensive little blighters) before the Audi, and then a BMW coupe, rear wheel drive, without the traction control enabled was fun for drifting, but useless in any wet/cold weather (as RWD is). Grew up on a car lot, so a bit of a petrol head (my dads).
  20. I have an A3 at present, had major probs with the start stop system within 3 months of taking it last year, they offered me an A5 cab courtesy, which I declined (march last year, more cause I didn't want to ding it! size difference) and it was snowing, so took a A3 SE sport instead. All the trouble, landed me in Audi reception with copious amounts of 'lift' music, coffee and staring endlessly at the R8 in wonder..oh and their head of service likes me, hence my courtesy car is…but to be fair, I'll drive anything :-)
  21. Sounds good to me Captain Shortwave! My car is in for an MOT then, got a new A5 cabriolet courtesy motor. I know its subliminal marketing, but I'll take it nonetheless !
  22. @ Steve C - That twitter picture is awesome, some lucky people seeing something so beautiful this evening.
  23. I stared at it for a while, to no avail :-) although one thing crossed my mind, if this was a 'spot the difference' quiz it could prove quite a challenge!! :-) Now down to 2c here.
  24. Started out wet and dreary here, so thought I'd clean my little sewing den, Then I thought well this is boring, so stopped cleaning and made this little vintage cup and saucer bird feeder - then the sun came out from behind dense cloud cover. Procrastinating makes me more creative!
