  1. Up on top of farthing downs and can see a large bank of very dark cloud approaching from the west . Nothing falling at the moment. But it can’t be long. Still -3.2c
  2. The met office forecast for Kenley had it getting to this part of Surrey about 11 earlier this evening and starting as sleet. That’s now changed to snow from 9am and there is now a longer period of heavy snow. We wait to see. Fingers crossed
  3. Heavy rain now and snow rapidly thawing and being washed away. Oh well it was great while it lasted
  4. the met office forecast has changed now to light snow 5-6am, heavy snow 6-7am, 7-8am sleet, 8-12 rain. so it looks like we will have to be up early to see any snow, if there is any at all in the remainng 7 hours
  5. the temperatures and more importantly the dew points have both quite quickly gone negative late afternoon here. The met office forecast for my local met office station at kenley has also changed from sleet from 5am to 8am and then rain from 9, to Snow from 5 to 8am then sleet until 11, and then rain. this tends to indicate the progress of the warm sector has slowed. It would be nice if the whole front stalled, as it did earlier in the week when we had persistant rain, but that wuld be to much to ask for. A few hours of falling snow will be very welcome.
  6. fingers crossed we do get a period of snow, however brief . I've a feeling their might be a lot of dog walkers out early tomorrow, as i know most dogs seem to love frost and snow.
  7. if you would like to see some snow, then the link below shows some. Webcams – Settle and Carlisle Railway Trust SETTLECARLISLETRUST.ORG.UK
  8. a thorouhly wet and miserable morning here. The predicted temerature decrease has started though as the cold air moves in. At 09:00 it was 8.9c and now it is 5.6c
  9. my local met office station is Kenley, its about 1.5 miles from me. On Monday it showed the max temp for this friday was 7c, this morning the forecast temp had dropped to 3c and now it is showing 2c, so you can see how the models initially moved the mild air further east but as the week has gone on the cold weather has slowed the mild airs easterly path to the point where it is now further west. Similarly for Saturday, Monday's forcast for precipitation showed Rain all morning, at lunchtime today that had changed to sleet all morning, and this evening it is now showing as snow all morning. It shows that this area is in a very marginal zone where we probably won't get to know the true type of precipitation we will have until it actually happens. We wait with baited breath to find out.
  10. Freezing fog this morning has covered everything in a white frosty covering, it looks stunning. Annoyed that I for got my phone so couldn’t take any pictures!
  11. The thick freezing fog of early morning has lifted and we now have blue sky and sunshine. The temp has soared up accordingly to a balmy 0.9c
  12. that should say "thick" freezing fog. not sure what think freezing fog is !
  13. Think freezing fog here at present. On the radar it looks like all the precipition seems to fade away as it appraches the kent/surrey border. Mind you Orpington is only 12 miles away so we can keep our
  14. well, today we slowly climbed up to 1.7c at 13:45, but now we are back down to 0.9c. we wait to see if anything wintery develops and makes it this far in such a slack flow.
  15. It turned into a nice sunny day eventually but even so the temp only rose to 0.9c and it is now down to 0.1c so i think, given the clear skies, its going to be a chilly one tonight.
  16. it got down to -2.2c last night but at 6:30 this morning it was back up to 0c. More suprising is the fact that we have had several snow flurries already. They don't amount to much but are a suprise all the same. The temp is now back down to -0.3c so it looks like being a cold grey day.
  17. it's a tad slippery outside at the moment, on the paths and roads. temp and dp currently -1c.
  18. We had bout 2cms in the garden but having walked up the hill to Old Coulsdon and there is around 3-4cm's up there (about the same as Nick F and about the same elevation as well just a couple of miles away). This then turned to sleet and now rain. it's a bit of a slushfest out there at the moment. It does at least count as my first lying snow of winter though. hopefully everyone will get some before winter is out.
  19. We have about 1cm of lying snow, but you can hear it melting as well. Temp 0.6 dp 0
