  1. we have had a few very light snow flurries here in coulsdon, but they dont last vey long.
  2. I thoughts that would happen. Out for some exercise and we have a light snow flurry.
  3. Well we’ve had nothing precipitation wise overnight. Temp and dp both 1.9c at the moment. Mention on the radio of sleet and snow showers over the north downs first thing this morning, but I think that is most likely over the Kent part rather than the Surrey part of the downs. Still you never know the weather might surprise us.
  4. Nothing happening here at present. Temp 2.1c and dp 2c. I’m hoping the line of showers currently running along the Suffolk/Essex coastline continue on as this might just reach us. Hopefully the temp and dp will drop nicely as well.
  5. The temp actually rose to 4.1c and dp of 4c late morning but it's now on the way down. Temp currently 3.4c and dp 3c, and the wind definately feels chillier than first thing this morning.
  6. Well its back to WFH today, but being as it is dank, grey and miserable outside thats not to much of a hardship. We seemed to be on the northern edge of the rain earlier, and to be honest, although it was a NE breeze in January it didn't feel that cold, which i guess backs up the reason why we are seeing rain rather than anything wintery. current temp 3.6c, DP 3c.
  7. The bbc weather forcast at 1pm (on radio) said there will be spell of rain overnight in the SE and then tomorrow there will be further spells of rain. there might be some sleet over the hills. No mention of any snow. They did say if you are looking for mild weather then there is nothing at all mild on the horizon, and with most of the week being under a NE wind it will feel colder than the temps shown.
  8. HNY to everyone. Just very foggy here this morning. Temp 0c, dp 0c
  9. I know there have been a few messages mentioning that the models are showing some "less cold" conditions, but this doesn't mean mild. It also doesn't mean they will be accurate. Yesterday the met office and bbc forecast temps in the SE to be between 4c - 6c, this morning it was 3c - 5c, but if you look at the current temps, most places have barely made it to 0c. In my neck of the woods (nearest weather station is Kenley) yesterday it showed it would be 4c today, this morning that was down to 1c, and in reality it has only got to -1c (so far). If there is 2c difference in the nowcast, that variability is more than likely in 10 days time. i'm sure snow will arrive, it is just a question of when rather than if.
  10. just some thoughts...... The geographical position of the UK has always meant that our weather is never as straight forward to forecast compared to even some of our closest neighbours (France, Belgium, Netherlands etc). Being an island, with even just a short expanse of water in the channel, means temperatures can vary by the smallest degrees but with the current set up that can be the difference between temperatures just above or below freezing. The models have being picking up on the current cool/cold spell for some time now but as we know the devil is in the detail. The usual mild and wet southwesterlies with frequent depressions are more reliably forecast and tracked, but then the models have run these scenarios several thousands times and have been refined to increase the accuracy. The current set up, as we are all aware, does not occur that regularly in the UK and so all will struggle with the finer detail. Today is probably a good example. Earlier in the week we were looking at a possible snow event taking place, this then turned to a "we might get a little dusting in places" and then in to just being cloudy and dry. The temperatures though have generally been a couple of degrees lower than expected, even in the 24hr window. The Met office forecast yesterday for Kenley (my nearest met office station), had it going doing to -1c overnight and then rising up slow to 4c around 2PM today before dropping down again to around 0c by midnight. The temperature actually dropped down to -3c and even now has only just made it up to -1c. The revised forecast high for today is now 1c at 2pm and -1c at midnight. I, like many, would love to see some snow in our area, and i do think we will get it, but we will just have to be a little more patient. The models will go a long way to show us what is coming, but local climatic variations will ultimately decide what type of precepitation we do get and how much. For now i can definately say that it feels like a cold day, and the ground is firming up quite nicely, where a week ago it was a muddy/slippery mess. We wait now for the first sign of snowflakes and for this thread to light up and the images to flood in
  11. A slight frost but at least temp and dp are below freezing with both at -1c
  12. after a frosty start the cloud has come over and the temp risen to 3.2c but still dry if not very bright. Not a breath of wind.
  13. well we crept up to 2.4c today under leaden skies, and now its raining with the odd wintery flake, and feeling raw.
  14. has rained all day, not heavy but steady. have managed 19mm today so far. 43mm for the weekend.
  15. Hit the dizzy heights of 11.3c today. i must admit when i took the dog for a walk this morning the 5.2c and strong wind made it perishingly cold, however in a few places, in the sunshine and out of the wind, it was quite pleseant.
  16. Started raining here just after 9 and has pretty much rained the rest of the day including now. Mostly drizzle but 8.8mm so far. The 33c of Last Wednesday seems such a long time ago.
  17. Been drizzle and slightly heavier bursts all morning. Sill humid and 19c
  18. More rumbles of thunder but the radar doesn’t seem to show anything close.
  19. I notice the m25 at junction 7 and m23 similarly both have 3 lanes closed due to flooding.
  20. The heavens have finally opened as a storm rages overhead. Rain sweeping in the rate enough for my weather station to say it’s raining cats a dogs. At least I won’t have to water the Veg’s tonight.
