  1. http://blogs.agu.org/wildwildscience/2013/04/04/nasa-satellite-measures-the-effects-of-greenland-block-that-stopped-spring/ I have no idea which thread to post this in, so I'll let those in charge move it around to where their hearts content, but I thought some of the more scientifically minded may find this article of interest.
  2. Wouldn't disagree about the rain bit, however it's no different to many, many people on here jumping up and down with glee at the prospect of grey skies and snow piling down all day. As a previous poster said, if it means an end to this seemingly never ending cold, then I'll put up with wet & windy for a while until some milder dryness appears.
  3. Hahaha....that's brilliant....and SO SO true as well!! Spot on, Love it!! Has to be comment of the month for me!!
  4. I agree John.....it's utterly ridiculous!! I can understand that some may prefer colder conditions to warmer ones, but continually looking for and ramping up snow prospects for April is beyond me as well. It's the comments such as "What WE need is....." as well......."we" as in who exactly??
  5. I've decided to dig out the Xmas decorations and put them up......that always seems to warm the weather up year on year for some reason!!
  6. Point taken though my comment was more on the extremes, so apologies for the misinterpretation. Not sure Dad would agree that his ground is more useable though I have to say. Not in the west country anyway.
  7. I think it's an ongoing situation from April last year when the rain started, which doesn't seem to have stopped since. My family's land down in the West Country has been pretty much underwater the last 6 months or more, and there's no sign of it drying out anytime soon either. Massive effects on ability to graze cattle and/or grow crops.
  8. Now, Now.....calm down chaps. Gavin was taking a lot of stick yesterday, so deep breaths all round. Being the son from a farming family I too know the impact the cold is having on things, BUT, it's here and whilst I personally don't want any more cold and especially snow, then the likes of myself are clearly in the minority. Purga just loves the cold as he's said on a previous comment, and whilst from a purely selfish standpoint don't agree that it's "great" as he says, I'm sure he has just as many reasons for thinking the opposite to me.
  9. The thing is, the sun's got to come out in order for there to be any strength behind it!!
  10. Haha...yes, but this is the moaners thread....I'm only doing what it says on the tin!!!
  11. I think the snowies have had their fill of excitement the past 24hours or so, with more to come by the looks of the forecast. Looking at some of the pictures, I still fail to understand the pleasure of seeing someone get stuck in the kinds of drifts seen on the news, but each to their own. Another cold, dark grey miserable March day, to go along with most of the others experienced this past month.
  12. Ah yes, about those "Boring Bartlett" days.....at least everything wasn't grey, cold and under water........there's nothing remotely "great" about the weather in Sussex today!
  13. Stay safe everyone down West. Just spoken with my folks on the farm in Ludgvan and it's really not good!!!
  14. I think those getting over excited about the snowfall should be mindful of the potential problems this weather might have to people's lives and livelihoods. Not good.... Sorry to be a downer, but there we go.
  15. Ahhh....dear Georgina...I do love you, BUT I really don't know where this snow you speak of is coming from!!
  16. I love it that when someone has the temerity to suggest that the cold air is going to disappear, the cold lovers hit back with, "Yeah, but it's not exactly going to be mild"!!!!!
  17. I heartily apologise to all the folks up North who are looking for the same warmth as us southern softies, but this is the best news I've had in a very long time!!!!!!!!!!!!! To coin a couple of phrases I've read on here in the last couple of months....."Epic", and "Ramp" !!!
  18. I'd go along with that Rob. I've found that the "Discussion" thread is just as you say, an environment for the snow & cold lovers to state how gleeful they are, and yet whenever someone puts an opposing viewpoint they tend to get rather stroppy. Even those who apparently are the more seasoned pro's and ones anyone new should listen to are all purely cold biased. Everyone is different and that's fine, but this continued snow & biting cold isn't to everyone's taste, and in my case along with others it causes significant business, financial and logistical headaches. Maybe not the hurricane that was mentioned on the main board, but losing one's business can have similar long term effects.
  19. There is that of course!!! I've only been reading these boards for 3 or 4 months, so I want to see if there are as many warm rampers out there as there are cold ones!! Haha!
  20. Haha.....after the cold & grey winter, and a cold March, then I'm not sure a cold April would be "great"......!!
