  1. The coldies do tend to get rather over excited I must admit. Not quite sure what there is to get excited about weather such as yesterdays.....just ask those stuck on the A23 last night whether they'd prefer dry & cloudy or snow & ice and I think you'd get a resounding vote in favour of the former. But hey if we were all the same then life would be very boring!
  2. Haha, well as it says on the tin, and because I feel like it, I'm going to have a moan! Truly miserable day, bitter, raw winds, grey skies, snow blowing around from time to time, and then more of it as I headed south on the way home. I can still hear the wind howling outside now as I bleat now! Now, I realise that having looked at the SE regional board for much of the day that I'm in a distinct minority, so I hope that those who wanted it and who enjoy the snow and bitter cold have had a good one, but i hate it, and so haven't.... There, I've said it......whinge, whinge, whinge......!! When we get our one day of warmth in the middle of July, I'm so going to come on here and ramp the 70degree warmth and clear blue skies, even if it only lasts for 24hrs. I realise no one will care or read it, but I'll think back to today and it'll make me feel better!!
  3. My guess is that the ground's not cold enough. We've not had any ground frosts the past week or so, which has enabled the ground to warm up, so whilst the air is cold, the ground is. (That's a purely uneducated guess by the way!)
  4. Maybe not all of us are like those on here today and like the thought of cold temperatures and snow falling?? Just a thought.
  5. Agree totally. Some of us have a hard enough time earning a living and running a business at the moment as it is, to have to put up with the kind of disruption that could be brought by this event is very much something I'd like to avoid.
  6. Kate, this is a cold weather alert and not one of their "Be prepared" yellow warnings as such.
  7. Hi.....I'm going to nervously hold my hand up and say that I am as well....and I put this down to me simply being nowhere near as knowledgeable as the vast majority of posters on here. I say that because reading most of the comments since last nights runs, they are suggesting that pretty much everywhere, including my area in the SE, is likely to get what I would term a reasonable amount of snow. I say that given that people are getting very excited, and that there's talk of sledges etc etc...maybe not here, but certainly in the SE Regional Board. BUT, when I read the latest Met Office forecast, both the symbolic one which I'm led to believe is model generated, and also the text forecast which is regularly updated by 'hand', as well as looking at this morning's video forecasts on the Beeb, who I'm led to believe get their info from the Met, then there's no alarm bells ringing at the moment, or talk of anything significant. I'm not sure if they're hedging their bets, or if they're simply in possession of additional information which those on here aren't?
  8. Well, in the words of Nick Miller on the latest Beeb forecast, "nothing significant or disruptive" in terms of snow, and drier next week than this. So perhaps Cobra and the Army can stand down?
  9. The thing is Paul, we're not all after a "perfect forecast", some of us are just like Chris and use the forum as a tool for whatever reason in order to gain an idea as to what may actually happen, or at least give an indication of it, such as the current cold spell which is predicted for the early part of next week. As others have said, it's the constant hype by the snow lovers which is very misleading, and whilst I agree fully that it's a discussion, to find two completely opposing views on the same data seems to me at least to be just plain daft.
  10. In the short time I've been reading these forums John, I've very quickly discovered that the vast majority read what they want to read, and are very one eyed with regards to what they look for and therefore post. There are very few who will offer a balanced summary.
  11. Haha....so Cobra won't be meeting, and the Army won't be called in then???
  12. Thank you for the lesson in meteorology, but I've never seen snow fall out of a sun drenched sky before, so snow to me means grey skies?
  13. It depends on whether it shows what you're looking for!!
  14. I understand the excitement at extremes. Grey skies, snow & ice are just soooooo depressing though. At least if it's cold let's have the sun shining!
  15. It never ceases to amaze me the excitement generated by the fact that compared to a day such as today's, that slate grey skies, snow and ice is preferred.
  16. Surely the 'coldies' always simply clutch at straws looking into the future?
  17. Haha.....sorry Nanu........I was quite surprised to be honest, given some of the suggestions on here I was expecting it to at least be worthy of a "keep an eye out for", but you saw the same one as me, and good old Thomas hardly mentioned it.
  18. To be fair I've found them very good this winter in terms of at least mentioning the possibilities of snow several days in advance. For whatever reason the amounts we are/aren't going to get is barely worth a mention. Given they're the Pro's I'd be very surprised if they didn't know!!
  19. Latest BBC UK forecast on the website still suggests not a lot......got a mention for tonight, but nothing after that into the weekend.
  20. Yes thanks Bobby, I've gradually sussed a few who are most 'revered' in terms of what they say. Sometimes it's quite funny to still see them contradicted mind you. But like you say I've found the MetO and BBC very accurate this winter I have to say. The MetO have been pretty much spot on for the area I'm concerned with, so at the moment I've got only positive things to say about them. At least by coming on here I've been able to gauge if a cold spell's likely, or if it's simply going to be wet & windy for the next week or more. But even with regards to this weekend, some seem to totally ramping up the snow possibilities when everything I've read from the Pros seems to only suggest a light 'sugar coating'. It does make the uninitiated such as myself second guess a lot of the time i have to say. Thanks for replying though, much appreciated!!
