  1. The Precipitation is not going to get here until midnight onwards, plenty of time for a frost to set in before the moisture comes!! I do agree marginal is the best word for low lying areas, as someone else mentioned if the wind is a southerly then coastal regions may struggle. anyone who is at elevation should be better placed.
  2. MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I think December 2009, best i can say at the moment, remember travelling to Crookham Common, off the 34 travelling toward newbury took nearly 1 hour to get from 1 roundabout to the other! sorry for the vaugeness thats the best i can do. not sure now LOL
  3. yup agree GTLTW thanks for the comments I am surprised your max depths are that low, what about 2009? Remember a decent event that produced about 1inch here and around 7/8 inchs in Basingstoke. cant remember how Newbury got on in that one.
  4. also folks don`t forget at the moment rain for scotland and at best snizzle for kent!!!! our area Snow!! so we all know kent will end up with 20cms and we will have the snizzle!!lol
  5. good evening folks well it`s wednesday and the models can smell a weekend coming! when i first saw the models of this thursday/friday i thought no chance , uppers to warm, no 528dam, surface cold enough but thats about it. Now moving onto the latest forecasts things are wlooking better for the southern area. latest precipitaton charts are showing the heaviest PPN heading south west from say the wash to the severn estuary. The sweet spot at the moment is Oxford, swindon, Bristol, Dartmoor, upto 20 cms over high ground. this isn`t to say other places will see snow and some decent amounts upto 10cms further east. Possiblly as far as London, down through sussex could well see some snow a guess upto 5cms. as for the IOW i think you could see some snow fall, this is a good direction for IOW as the is little sea track for any ppn to warm. It will not take much for the PPN to run further east as did the event last weekend, thus moving any heavy PPn towards our area. Low ground in devon and cornwall could well only see rain as temps are alot higher . A very interesting few days coming up. nearly 2 weeks cold spell still ramping up for southern england!!! Bring it on.
  6. Don`t give up on this winter YET! In the short term, wintery conditions still most evident ICE ! will be a big problem overnight and morning. Be very carefull. Don`t think we should write off this week either, 1 run from 1 model is not enough to write off winter. there is still loads of potential in the poor outputs, now the ECM is turning out its latest offerings.
  7. yep temps risen slightly, everything is dripping wet outside. we need clear skies now to freeze all this !! not sure if there will be much left by morning at this rate!
  8. the thaw has set in!!!! getting wet out there, hear the snow falling from the trees! lets get these skies clear and a frost now!!!
  9. Always was going to be a bit iffi near to the coast qwitha southerly wind blowing warmish air inland. My concerns were for this to effect alot more of the region than maybe a few miles. if you are within a few miles of the coast you need a cold wind blowing from the land out to sea to get any decent falls in this sort of situation. Or a big dirty channel low with lots of cold upper air temps, this will then suck up moisture from the channel and dump it as snow on the land right up to the sea. Keep the faith , the models predictions for this weekend have been pretty good, we were always going to be marginal.
  10. sorry not intended to question current situation here, i was reffering to your YET. I was reading your Yet as if the coastal area would see snow tonight. my comment was aimed at saying that the coast will not see any lying snow before midnight tuesday.
  11. yep i think you might be about right there moisty, high ground like farley mount should be snow covered but down in the valleys i guess it`s wet
  12. not this side of midnight tuesday!!! snow easing off now , not looking like much more tonight, unless the ilusive lp being mentioned appears!!! still got around the 4cms migh tbe thawing alittle , my hope now is clear skies and a frost!!!
  13. latest updates from just north west of andover. around 4cms on the ground dewpoints 0c air temp 0c moderate snow falling steady for around 1 hour. better than expected by far, really thought it would be rain by now. Still could go the shape of the pear but got all crossed
  14. If the current models keep doing their stuff you could well be on the Isle of white!!!! by the 12th. many happy returns for then
  15. anyone with the upto date satelite imagery have any info on the potential disruption in this front due to a lp? Is it still happening? where is it happening? cheers stoxs p.s still snowing , wind picked up , have around 3cms on the deck.
  16. caution was posted for costal areas, hey your all welcome to travel north tomorrow and find a hill!!
  17. been snowing for the last 2 hours here, may have 2cms on the ground. 10 miles south the mother in law is still green and only just started snowing. Very interested to here if the LP to our west is forming and how this will effect us? all the best folks
  18. gtltw SNow storm!!!! or 16mm of freezing rain!!! think with the possibilites a ramp or 2 is allowed
  19. All very interesting good to here there is snow faling out west, i am sure the models were predicting rain for these areas. All good for us further east on the knife edge. I still am expecting snow to rain event within 5-10 miles of coast hopefully further inland we could keep an all snow event!! high ground through our area could well see 15-20 cm`s out of this and that will take quiet awhile to melt, with the ground frozen solid . At least with the ground frozen if snow fall it will settle. big concerns for the freezing rain , can remember an event simliar to this back in the mid ninties, also on a saturday and we had heavy freezing rain!!! really dangerous conditions for several hours. hope everyone has snow on the ground still by sunday morning, it is still possible.
  20. just think folks if this front is a bit slower or stalls right through the middle of the country and the south east is bathed in sunshine and green fields !!!! So many full of they are in the firing line for the most snow. I would PMSL hehe
  21. belive you wil get nothing and be surprised if you get anything!! All the best for tomorrow. If this time it dosn`t happen, you might get a good shot next time later next week!!!
  22. the met office video above is way off it`s mark for temps tonight!! -7 here not as the video states -3. how can anything be right for tomorrow if they can`t even predict temps right at 06hrs!! confidence is growing for the snow event, not liking the south coast for any decent amounts of the white stuff but a few miles in land and as others have said a bit of elevation and some should see a decent fall. good luck folks it could be very intersting this time tomorrow
  23. more twists and turns than the monaco grand prix!!! current outputs are showing less chances for our area of seeing a significant spell of snow over saturday/ sunday. North of our area is still looking 50/50. anywhere south of the M4 is less so around 30%. I personally think this will improve for all east of a line from the Iow to around newcastle. i hope we all see some significant snow over the coming weekend but would like to see the 12x gfs before comentting. good luck folks!!!
