  1. Two afternoons with small storms, probably more than we had last year!
  2. Stunning all day long. The sun was relentless and I managed to burn too. Cracking Easter BBQ in the garden.
  3. Some stunning days this week, great for walking. Goes chilly once the sun goes in but i'll take it. The ground is also very dry now
  4. A distinctly chilly wind this morning that has been howling away all night. Very 'beast from the east' style, you certainly hear differences when the wind blows from the east compared to the west.
  5. Light snow falling for the past hour in Quinton.
  6. Rain with sleet mixed in here in Solihull. I can't believe they actually issued a Yellow Warning for southern Midlands, pointless
  7. Another stunning day. Went walking in the Peak District and barely a cloud in the sky. Wore a t-shirt most of the way round, even out of the sun it was still humid feeling. This time last year there was brutally cold wind chills up there!
  8. Hoping for a bit more sun as it felt warm in it Sunday but I will take mild temps if we cannot get snow. 3-6c and wet no thanks!
  9. Stunning day out there. Been up near Flash and the roads are nice and clear and sun is shining all around. Kids are sledging on the hills and I found some drifts that reached my waist! Lower down we still have snow on the ground, impressive since Tuesday. No drip drip just the sun melting it in exposed areas.
  10. Lovely sunset tonight and still frozen on most ground that hasn't seen the sun. Disappointed with no more snow but been fascinated watching that system down south just pivot and move in weird ways. And yes Midlands has missed out considering most areas of the country had some good dumpings most of which were surprise falls.
  11. Last night: Anyway of more interest tonight is the temps. It was already -3 at 7pm, but with no wind it feels quite nice for a walk. I went up Brown Edge and the snow was several inches deep and powdery in nature and had a nice walk in the dark (since the snow makes everywhere brighter) Tonight: Wow the wind is freezing tonight! Making it feel so raw. Apparently snow is blowing around blocking roads in the Peak District too.
  12. It will be a nowcast situation for sure. Anyway of more interest tonight is the temps. It was already -3 at 7pm, but with no wind it feels quite nice for a walk. I went up Brown Edge and the snow was several inches deep and powdery in nature and had a nice walk in the dark (since the snow makes everywhere brighter)
  13. This was Norton earlier...much more snow around here than downtown Burslem.
  14. Thought the front had gone through and it pepped up a final time giving a nice last coating to all surfaces. About 2-3cm on the ground
  15. Last bit of the snow coming through now and it has pepped up slightly.
  16. Snow line about an hour ago was halfway between J14 and J15 of the M6 but not settling. Hanley and Burslem have a bit of slushy stuff but it's the elevation into Smallthorne and Norton which means we have lying snow but is is very wet. Traffics screwed on the main roads but that's fine, I took some side roads with big hills and everyone was clearing avoiding them and didn't skid once. Pansies!
  17. Stoke is poor for deep deep snow, but we've had 10cm now and again. It isn't poor for marginal events though because of height, so we do get many dustings each year which is better than some!
  18. We had some brief snizzle earlier. This will be my first lamppost watch under new LED lighting. It is bright white so quite hard to see compared to the old lighting (they got swapped over last Thursday).
  19. Yeah its all down to altitude a lot but also I guess the narrow band skimmed to the south. Appears we may have had some slushy deposits as I slid out my estate this morning thinking it was just raining!
  20. Weird distribution of snow today I noticed. Little north of Hanley, virtually none on the A500 and then Trentham had quite a bit. Then it was spoardic in nature until Stafford where it looked deeper and then on the M6 down to around the M54 there was a nice coating. And at Quinton there was none! Oh and just been to Brown Edge (10 mins away but into the Moorlands) and there's a lovely sugar coating of snow (the sort that doesn't cause an issue on roads and pavements but looks great on the heather moors)
  21. It was more icy when I went to bed than this morning! It was hovering around freezing, so the roads were just wet instead. Surprised considering how cold it got yesterday evening!
  22. I only moved from Solihull so we had our fair share of deep snow over the years but what is nice living slightly higher up in Stoke is that marginal events are usually on the right said. That does mean I have seen snow and lying snow every years in 11 years of being here and generally at least one event of 5cm or more. However the real deep stuff has missed us time and time again, 2017 being a prime example when the West Midlands got dumped on in parts. But for all there 1 foot events every 10 years, we get several smaller events each winter, so have to take the rough with smooth.
  23. I think we might miss out later in Stoke as the winds shift. Similar to Dec 2017 when the streamer was over Shropshire and WM
  24. Looks like a steamer of sorts setting up. Just in time for rush hour and the place to grind to a halt. Roads are already slow and there's no snow on them!
  25. Big flakes here and a covering on grass.
