The Matrix is already right up at HIGH impacts, just waiting for the certainty, for the Likelihood to increase and move it up to Amber Which is why red warnings only appear with short lead times

No. The heads up early warning is there, the storm name is aiding comms on this event. They usually wait until 10/11am to update their warnings. There is a steady rhythm to this kind of thing and repercussions when amber or red warnings appear, it kicks of lots of logistical processes. Decision making - Severe weather warnings and The Matrix WWW.NETWEATHER.TV Yellow, Amber and Red warnings - all warn of severe weather but not all yellow warnings are equal. The UK uses an impact-based system. Extra understanding is needed for good decision making.

Storm Ciaran - another week, another storm WWW.NETWEATHER.TV The UK Met Office has named Storm Ciaran, for potentially very windy weather Wednesday night and on Thursday with even more rain. There are plenty of rain warnings before that too.

SEPA rainfall gauge data is down , from 2pm yesterday. "Service Notice 26th October 2023 Updated 2200 The data feeds to our public facing webpages have been temporarily disrupted and we are working to resolve this urgently." Scottish Rainfall Data - provided by Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) WWW2.SEPA.ORG.UK Rainfall data for Scotland.

The SEPA FLood forecast looks 3 days ahead and the SEPA flood warnings (and alerts) are about more imminent concerns, with specific location/river details "Localised impacts from rivers and surface water on Thursday, Friday and Saturday are likely in the north east. There is also a risk of further impacts in areas recovering from recent flooding. River levels are not expected to be as high as experienced during Storm Babet but as the rain will be falling onto already wet ground, flooding from surface water runoff may also cause impacts. Caithness and Sutherland, Easter Ross and Great Glen and the south west of Scotland may also experience some localised flooding due to persistent and heavy rain" 26th Oct The UKV rainfall forecast isn't great for eastern central Scotland

The winter fun is starting, with random UKsnow headlines. There are signs of snow over the tops of the Scottish mountains on Sunday, for the Grampians. Also perhaps a showery easterly flow later next week, early November with more sleet and snow showers over the mountain tops. Not much more at this stage. Not the whiteout shown in the photos below. It will be November, winter is coming.

Wow, glad they are safe. Is it half term, quite the tale for what did you get up to in the October break. They will remember strange things about the adventure, very different often to adults' worries and thoughts

An improving weekend as Storm Babet finally fades WWW.NETWEATHER.TV There will be more heavy rain for the areas which have seen severe flooding already from Storm Babet with another Red rain warning for eastern Scotland on Saturday. Sunday will be better. Took a while to find enough shelter to record, even then one gust interrupts.

There are differences around the detail over southern Britain tomorrow and so the rainfall amounts. For NE/E Scotland, it is a grim picture into the weekend even with the suggestion of a brighter lull mid Friday, before the rain sets in again Friday night. The easterly wind doesn't give up until Sunday.

These were from earlier (so not uptodate now) but the Social Media posts manage to separate and yet the actual warning page for public to use, is so cluttered and unclear

The SEPA rain totals for the day are now appearing on the Radar, this is top 10 option from Current Weather overlay
