  3. I ventured out and got soaked, a raindrop landed on the lens near the end and sent the video all 'soft-focus' although the crashing waves come into better focus, strangely. 6. the top ten of the day are available in Netweather Extra radar, in Current Weather (Overlays) and you can add the rain gauge data in OVERLAYS The SEPA data is nice as you can see it all and the coloured dots work well. The radar display needs zooming in as numbers on Rain Gauge data represents number of gauges in an area, when zoomed out. and the different matrices that go with them
  7. It looks like it will all be known as Storm Babet over the UK, one huge event of wind and rain, it is just a communication tool, to alert the public about upcoming severe weather and to help get across the message to prepare and stay alert. However, on a technicality, IPMA, the Portuguese Met service has named a low which will move over Iberia. There are numerous warnings for Spain on Thursday for wind, heavy rain and coastal dangers/large waves. This is Storm Aline, the first named storm of the Southwestern Group, their A. It seems to deepen as the low over SE England by lunchtime Friday. https://twitter.com/AEMET_Esp/status/1714632454600864070
  8. Lively and colder few days for Iceland as this low pressure moves by today with warnings for Severe gales and heavy mountain snow. Another low deepens to the south of Icelalnd on Thursday, heading for Shetland by Friday and pulling cold Arctic air to the UK. Frost and a bit of mountain Snow forecast for Scotland by the weekend.
  9. One of the few, (maybe the only) East Lothian railway station bike rack that isn't covered. I got a lift home on Friday as it was raining so much, after the https://www.rmets.org/events RMetSoc Ensemble and Probability forecasting talk in Edinburgh (which was very good) and went to retrieve my bike on Sunday, wearing my wellies. The talk should appear on YouTube at some point and has big news about significant changes to MO and ECMWF forecast output, with a clear, interesting explanation of the subject. Was online as well as in person, which is the plan for most of the monthly meetings.
  10. Meanwhile, waving cold front over southern Scotland, Northern Ireland into northeast England. Concerns for more active fronts from the northwest on Tuesday from a low centre near Iceland Met Office warning "Across many western areas 15-25 mm of rain could fall quite widely, with peak totals of 40-50 mm possible over and around the high ground. This may bring further impacts from flooding, including the disruption of travel, given the recent wet conditions."

  18. We're in a 'Col' the region between two low centres (this time one out west and one over Baltic Sea) and two high pressures, closer to the north and south. The frontal boundary is bringing the heavy and persistent rain, and a strong jet (enhanced by a large temperature difference north /south ) keeps the pulses of heavier rain coming off the Atlantic. It's not a traditional low pressure set up, where frontal rain sweeps across the UK as strong winds around a low centre buffet us. This is a stagnant setup , a conveyor belt of heavy rain which just keeps on coming. So very high rainfall totals and plenty of surface water today with river levels rising
  19. Soggy Saturday with an Amber warning for Scotland WWW.NETWEATHER.TV What a wet weekend. It has been raining since yesterday with a soggy Saturday for much of Scotland and an Amber warning with impacts for travel and flooding likely.
  20. Gees, it was raining in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon, here all night and still chucking it down now.
  21. Warmer air will spread up from western Europe as a cool flow comes down the North Sea. In between will be frontal rain and there are weather warnings for parts of Scotland. Read more here
  22. Nick's article looking at unusually warm autumn spells and the term "Indian Summer" Return of summer warmth this weekend - but can it be called an Indian Summer? WWW.NETWEATHER.TV Becoming very warm this weekend across southern Britain, as hot air spreads north over western Europe, temperatures perhaps reaching 25-26C. But can it be called an Indian Summer?
  23. September has been truly warm, joint warmest on record for the UK. Spain and France have seen unusual heat for the start of October and that is forecast to surge northwards to the UK by the weekend. The media will be all over the phrase "Indian summer" but is it just a continuation of ongoing warmth, as there hasn't really been a chilly interlude
