  1. Just looked on some webcams for the Pennines, top of the M62 at around 400m and it's chucking it down with rain rather than snow. Even though the warning says snow for areas 300-400m. Unless things turn colder later then it will probably turn to snow at 400m but as of now it's just plain rain.
  2. In actual fact that Bartlett I posted lasts for more than "one day in January" so your statement is false
  3. Looks similar to the one by Thundery Wintry Showers.......LP to the NW and HP to the South of us and a mildish W/SW airflow.....a.k.a Bartlett
  4. They both look quite similar Gav apart from slightly higher pressure on the Wetter, thing is Wetter seems to make high pressure systems look less compressed than Meteociel, so if it was on Wetter it would look bigger. Plus Metociel overdo's those blue shadings.
  5. Snow beginning to settle on the grass verge at the M62 Summit in Saddleworth http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/travelnews/national/trafficcameras/highwaysagency/31751/serveimage And on the camera lens on one a bit lower down http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/travelnews/national/trafficcameras/highwaysagency/31734/serveimage
  6. Long way off but early December looking similar to December 2001 with strong high pressure slap bang above us. Which means frost, fog but some good sunshine.
  7. Living in the Hazelhurst area of Ashton would help at around 650 feet
  8. The girlfriend isn't here tonight so I haven't got the heating on even though it's 13c indoors, certainly rather chilly but I have put the shorts and tshirt away now and resorted to wearing jeans and jumper. I think the bed will be chilly when I get in, felt the sheets earlier and it's like putting your hand in the fridge lol
  9. I was staying with a mate at the time in Huddersfield near Ainley Top and it was literally knee deep but with bigger drifts, was a shock seeing all that fall mostly overnight.
  10. I'm sure Bottesford will be pleased with this if it came off, Berlin sat in -10 uppers.
  11. Yes seems like another hyped up weather event away from Scotland - even the snow on Tuesday evening might turn to rain on Wednesday morning so I guess that cannot mean proper cold
  12. Looks like snow on the leading edge of the weather front Tuesday night/Weds Morning but it soon turns to rain, For the coldies in the Midlands and Northern England you'd have to be up during the early hours to see anything settling before it gets washed away and even then it won't be anything heavy away from high ground. Also Wednesday not looking as cold now as was showing the last few days, around 5c for this area but was showing 2c yesterday. Scotland however clings onto the coldest air and nothing much has changed in that respect since the last few days. So I think for England and Wales a slight downgrade but not for Scotland.
  13. Tuesday looking more like sleet in the morning and then rain later in the day compared to yesterday, which was showing big snow flakes all day. I think there's been a slight downgrade for our part of Manchester. As ever things might change but we are getting closer to Tuesday.
  14. I think the GFS is the model that usually takes longer to come on board with these colder spells? I'm sure last Winter sometimes it was 48 hours before a snow event that it finally agreed with the others.
  15. Quite an unusual chart that - it's usually the opposite way round, it's like west and east have swapped , just shows how potentially cold it may get next week onwards for western Europe. I think another 2-3 days and things will firm up even more.
  16. Indeed, for most of the country (where people live) south of the -7c line it looks rather benign I would say. Big differences from Glasgow southwards compared with north of that and in lightish winds it won't feel that bad, pressure gradiant looks rather tame nationwide.
  17. Well I won't bother posting any further out as that is anyone's guess. Pretty much pointless.
  18. Dry with high pressure in control. No signs at all of anything remotely wintry on the 18z tonight bar a few frosts.
  19. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asahikawa,_Hokkaido#Climate - 25 feet of snow per year in Asahikawa Japan
  20. Northern Japan is extremely snowy and not too extreme in terms of cold.
  21. Lol I know never said it "was like that" it was just wishful thinking on my part hence why I said "if only" lol I can dream though eh!
  22. I posted the 6z because the Manchester 12z ensembles still haven't updated so I think that's where your confusion comes from. Also some people have posted this chart below which is 264hrs - take what you will from that lol. And it's not until tuesday that the -5 line gets into Manchester area on 12z GFS, that's a full week away and most people would regard as FI.
  23. Indeed I think we'll have a better idea of what might come in a few more days and more runs.
  24. I was referring to the 6z Manchester runs I posted not long before. Also everything that is bitter is still in FI, nothing has changed in that regard has it? 6 days to a week away is not reliable things can change.
