  1. Click on the image for a satellite view of the big freeze crippling the world - snow has covered Jerusalem to Africa, but a corner of NW Europe stands out......
  2. 6z ens for here paint a wet picture, even if it's mild (at times) it's hardly going to be pleasant when it's soaking wet and blowing a gale.
  3. Anyone remember this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Lincolnshire_earthquake Can't believe it is 6 years ago in Feb where has the time gone? Anyway I recall just going to bed at almost 1am (I've always gone bed late), put my earphones in to relax and all of a sudden my bed began to move and it felt like someone was gently pushing me so I took my earphones out and noticed my wardrobe rocking a bit and an object fell of it. Was a surreal but interesting experience.
  4. Yes seemed like around mid January this year when we got our first settling snow too, so things can change in the new year, if I remember last Christmas was green and damp! there's plenty of hope and time for coldies yet although looking at some posts by the pessimists you wouldn't think so.
  5. If this does turn out to be a mild Winter then so be it, it's not the end of the world. The UK is quite a way North but that doesn't always guarantee cold and snow - we're still one of the top 3 or 4 mildest countries in Europe in Winter - this reverses in the Summer and we're one of the coolest, being far North can help cold in Winter but because of the big body of water to our west our predominant weather year round no matter where you live in this island is mild. Nothing will drastically change that as long as we are positioned on the fringe of Europe. Anyway the 12z Manchester ens look uninspiring for cold/snow prospects in the lead up to Christmas but the chance of more meaningful rain mid month onwards.
  6. Nope not got it on even though it's a chilly 12c in doors, got a couple of jumpers on plus thermal socks and I'm OK.
  7. Well that is true, last Christmas was green for most of the country? at least it was here, then by January things changed and became rather snowy so a straw to clutch for coldies. But also during the middle of December 2011 I woke up to a covering of snow one day in what was otherwise a mild month and a very mild Christmas, snow is not looking likely even this time around. Just shows how poor the models are looking at the moment for any cold/snow in the next couple of weeks. Even as a mildie I have enough sense to know the high pressure won't stick around forever.
  8. A freezing week in Las Vegas, if you are headed there then bring a coat with you, temps as low as -5c. About 10 degrees below average. Could even be some snow on Saturday. Hard freeze warning and Winter weather advisory in force. http://classic.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=Las%20Vegas,%20Nevada&wuSelect=WEATHER
  9. Really looking forward to potentially the next couple of weeks, bring on the strong Bartlett pressure I'm sure it will be a welcome relief to elderly people too.
  10. A mouthwatering prospect for mildies - at least the heating won't be needed. Bartlett pressure here we come, looks a bit like Christmas 2011
  11. Want real cold then head to Devils Lake, USA, solid snow pack on the ground and an extreme -33c windchill Streaming Devils Lake cam http://www.gondtc.com/webcam-4th&4th.html Looking very bitter all week into next week http://classic.wunderground.com/US/ND/Devils_Lake/KDVL.html
  12. Met Office going for 80mph gusts in this location tomorrow. I'm just inside the Amber warning
  13. About as cold as it gets this week from JMA Very windy for Northern areas Thursday End of weekend and high pressure sets up to our South bringing in milder air JMA run ends with high pressure to our East
  14. The Chinese model's view on things for Saturday The Aussie model one of the milder options Big difference with the Chinese one at the top.
  15. I think them uppers are for Mars, it is NASA's model after all
  16. JMA showing the cold getting into Scotland, N Ireland and Northern England on Thursday Everywhere cold on Friday Coldest air gone by Saturday Ends with high pressure moving into Scandinavia and for the meantime we are mildish compared with above
  17. Snow becoming heavy across the Northern half of the country on Thursday, blizzards and drifting snow across highland Scotland and maybe the North Pennines, Lakes etc The snow moves south Thursday night and still heavy in places Fizzling out as it hits the Midlands but looks like Cheshire gap sort of snow so hit and miss
  18. JMA still going for a short lived cold snap Turning milder.....with high pressure settling to the south of us
  19. Perhaps Greece is a place coldies may want to go? Ends with the UK under mildish uppers, very cold across East and South East Europe.
  20. GFS going for only a short lived cold snap for most of the UK, the proper cold doesn't get a foothold until early Friday Worst of the cold gone by Saturday
  21. Coldest of the uppers moving away to the east Pressure building over the UK
  22. Pretty darn cold, -12 uppers getting into NE England. Shetland sub -14 air. But thank fully pressure begins to push down on the country from the west
