  1. Gust of 74mph in South Uist http://www.xcweather.co.uk/observations
  2. Does anyone have a link to MSLP charts that aren't the fax charts from Met Office? Thanks!
  3. The Christmas Day storm looks to be back on the latest GFS run, winds aren't exactly the 90mph+ that were showing before but there's still the potential for 80mph across Central Scotland, which is great for me but horrible for Christmas commuters. We'll see what the next run brings as everything is chopping and changing.
  4. Just a bog standard autumn storm it seems if it were up here! Still though, 80mph and some flooding is nothing to be sniffed at. I envy a few people that beared the brunt
  5. Regarding the model output for tonight's snow, the more persistent band seems to be further North, streaming through the Clyde-Forth valley. Great news for me by the way, it's already snowing heavily! Long may it continue
  6. Had a few very heavy showers today, especially this morning. Showers are now mostly of sleet, but the last was of snow so here's hoping for the second bout of the season and its only mid-November!!
  7. More gains in Europe, along with a big increase in ice towards Alaska.
  8. Big melt on the SW extent but big gains in Northern china and also some in Europe.
  9. Snow is virtually gone now. Ended up with around 5cm for a day and a half, good going for this time of the season!!
  10. Some pictures of the snow here on the link below. Can't remember the last time it snowed this early in November, certainly not in my lifetime (since 1999). pics.zip Edit: I think that link downloads the files so watch out!
  11. Bishopton is a few miles east of me, miles away from Glasgow! Anyway, the snow is crazy here! A few inches with no sign of let up yet! pictures aren't uploading from my phone for some reason either. . .
  12. Has to be at least 5cm lying now with snow still falling heavily. This is turning into quite a doozy of a snow event for early November!!
  13. Been snowing pretty heavily here for a few hours now, maybe 3cm on the ground with cars struggling up the streets. Good times!!
  14. A few centimeters on the ground now, roads beginning to become a problem even though the gritter has been round a few times. Temperature hovering around 1C
  15. Moderate/heavy snow falling at the moment, has been for about half an hour. Starting to settle on the grass and roofs currently.
  16. Well here we are at the beginning of November and there's the chance for the first snowfall of the season! The high ground of Scotland and Northern England look to bear the brunt of the snowfall, with the chance of some accumulations to lower levels (maybe staying above 100m) especially in Scotland, but also into the Midlands Tuesday night into Wednesday. Of course this is biased speculation, and also there's still plenty of time to go in terms of nailing snow forecasts, but as an avid coldie looking for more snow than he can handle this is looking pretty decent for my area tomorrow, considering it's still Autumn!! Whether this thread gets used or everyone stays chatting in their respective regional threads, I felt this very early taste of Winter deserved a proper mention. 18. If I'm not mistaken its the Snow Advancing Index (or close to that lol) and it tracks the amount of snow in Siberia. @summer blizzard will be able to explain in detail.
  19. Steady (but rapid) build of snow and indeed ice in the past week, good to see the snow stretching into Scandinavia too. Tuesday 11th October: Tuesday 18th October: Does anyone have a link to the archives of snow and ice coverage? I'd like to go back and investigate and compare the evolution of the recent colder winters to this season so far (2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2012/2013). Thanks!
  20. This storm took place 12 years before I was born, but boy I wish I was alive to witness it! Storms like this one are what inspires me to become a meteorologist, truly spectacular weather at its best and worst simultaneously.
  21. The Sun has disappeared this week, although it has remained really dry apart from the lightest of showers.
