Do you think Aberdeen will get snow on Wednesday? I'm just concerned that the more easterly feed will make it mild enough for rain / sleet for Aberdeen???
I don't believe they did - not until at least this afternoon anyway - I'm sure when I heard the forecast this morning it was 'cold and frosty in the north'
Temp is picking up though with this added cloud cover - Met Office says 0.1° now. Why are we getting these big convective showers under a big area of high pressure anyway??
I can see heavy looking cloud out over the sea - hope it doesn't slide by and miss us. You wouldn't rule out a rare thundersnow event looking at that radar
Will do - I'll give it a blow in a SSW direction as it passes over!
The only probel is that it is quite a thin band of snow - no margin for error with the heaviest strip of snow - some place may just get lucky.
There is a streamer heading into Aberdeen in the next half hour by the looks of things!
The Met Radar is picking up a bit of red in there too (very heavy)!
If it starts moving in a westerly direction then maybe even Aberdeen could see some snow activity. The main bands are agonizingly close to the coast but seemingly just out of range in the current setup. Meanwhile, the occasional fluffy clouds we are getting are actually blowing in from the east! Windy in Aberdeen and still just below freezing. Quite impressive for us.
Great stuff isn't it? Certainly exceeded my expectations tonight...for once during this 'cold snap'! Snow should pass through in the next 15 mins though IMO
In reply to Yeahbabyyeah, that must be the cold air undercutting - if this is rain in Aberdeen, we might get a short spell of snow before it passes through, then soon after all the snow showers will soonstart packing in.
I'd say the top 5 most notorious roads in Scotland are: 1/ A939 Cockbridge - Tomintoul 2/ A9 Drumochter Pass 3/ A93 Braemar - Glenshee 4/ A9 At the Slochd summit 5/ A96 At the Glens of Foudland Although Glenshee is closed more often than Drumochter, it also the highest.
Yeah, I can see those orange skies encroaching. Cornhill is higher than me down in Holburn but I'd say snow is doubtful for both of us but we will see!
The 5.30pm radar is even better. Places like Huntly and Alford should get a pasting in the next few hours. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/ Foudland traffic cam is the one to watch now
Interesting to note that the heaviest and also the driest looking snowfall on all the traffic cams appears to be at Helmsdale (furthert north cam) this must be the extra cold air digging in behind the cold front.
That's good - expect the snow to become heavy soon. The 5pm radar is a gem for Grampian after a whole day when it looked as if the mountains were going to keep it away.
