  1. Yes that chart is for Hogmanay and I'm confident the snow should be back in time for then as the winf backs more northerly as the Greenland high begins to form. I think Wednesday will only be a temporary set back
  2. Well I think that's the probem - as Shuggee says, the SST's are around 7° and the wind doesn't have a cold origin. The good news however, is that the wind then begins to back more north-easterly from a more Polar origin so the thaw should only be temporay before we see more flurries in time for Hognamay. So we would need upper of around -8 / -9 in Aberdeen since we are not so conducive to snowfall from the east as Edinburgh is.
  3. That's pretty bad like! North Sea influence has had a really bad affect on Aberdeen's weather since last Wednesday. 5° in a strong wind off the sea will be like a blow torch - dripping roofs mania!
  4. Yeah, I'm expecting it here around 7pm - I don't we'll have anything more than a slight covering but we will see!
  5. Just seen the latest BBC forecast and they have 5° for Aberdeen on Wednesday with a strong to gale easterly. If this is true, we can expect a widespread thaw over many low lying areas. I don't think it will be that warm though.
  6. Aviemore now down to -13.6° - that's a drop of 3.4° in the last 2 hours! -20° anyone? Snow now at Grantown http://www.trafficscotland.org/lev/index.aspx
  7. How far inland are you from the Moray coast - Aberchirder kind of area?
  8. I think we could be on for maybe a -18° - not sure about -20°. Temp now down to -12° in Aviemore at 3pm from -10° at 2pm - that's quite a significant drop in a relatively short period of time.
  9. I can verify - Met Office have just issued a warning http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/gr/gr_forecast_warnings.html?day=1 Between 5-10 cms are expected thisevening and overnight. These snow showers have just arrived in Northern Moray and should hit the Aberdeen area by 6-7 pm
  10. It just seems to be going more SE rather than S though and its progress it painfully slow. If this is the case only places like Peterhead and Cruden Bay will catch the snow. May not even fall as snow on the Moray coast - it's amazing how mild placeslike Rosehearty remain in cold weather - it must be a nightmare for snow lovers there!
  11. Snow now moving south - I predict snow for parts of Moray and NE Scotland later this afternoon.
  12. That's what I was thinking / hoping for. It certainly only moving in an eastwards direction at the moment. There's a good 2/3" worth in there too!
  13. I think there may well be a state of emergency by 7th Jan in NE Scotland if the 12z comes off!
  14. It's okay we're well used to playing second fiddle to south-east England All snow has been very coastal today, not much getting inland, suppose it will bethe same with this next batch of snowwhich should strike around 6.30 and last for possibly 2/3 hours.
  15. If the 12z works out I can barelyimagine how much snow could be lying in Aberdeen this time next week. There's already around 10" in the back garden and when that vicious looking bundle of 'weather' currenly out in the North Sea hits land we'll make it over the foot mark I'm sure. And then the northerly....
  16. Moderate / heavy persistant snow now affecting Aberdeen. North Sea Showers clumping together to give more prolonged snow. Deep and getting deeper, depthshould reach close on a foot later this morning...
  17. One of the coldest days in the past 15 years in Aberdeen today. Forecasters got it wrong big time - they had a max of 3° here today and the temperature has in fact fluctuated between -3° and -5° all day. Only bad thing it hasn't snowed here since Saturday afternoon.
  18. Much better run. The only negative would be the low to the north between Iceland and Norway this weekend - it moves in a SW'ly direction thus cutting off the northerly flow. ECM is better, has it further east and evetually into Denmark! However, the UK does seem to remain in the cold air.
  19. Yeah, I'd say so. What's important is the wind direction - encroaching from a SW'ly direction today and tomorrow - I guarantee there will be huge deposits of snow in eastern gullies of Ben Nevis after today's heavy falls, with more to follow tomorrow, and then sme freeze action over the weekend.
  20. Well we must be approaching that point when we can name this year's survivals??? Not heard from Firefly that much recently - I'm sure he has the answers!
  21. This past hour is the windiest conditions I've ever seen in Aberdeen. The wind's so noisy is scary!
  22. Firefly, I noticed there were 55 survivals during the summer of 1994! Do you know where some of the more uncommon/low lying patches were that year? Thanks
  23. My annual golf tournament at Braemar on Saturday and there appeared to be less snow than last year. I did see 2 very small patches on the dramatic looking eastern face of Lochnager. The mountain with all the snow on it last year (the most stand out mountain as one looks NW from Braemar golf course - not sure, might be South Top) had considerably less this year with maybe 2 or 3 small patches barely visible. Sorry no camera to take shots!
  24. Looks like we could get some fresh snow on the mountains this week, especially Thursday/Friday.
  25. Seen a photograph in our local paper today from the Northern Open golf event at Spey Valley, Aviemore. The snap takes in the backdrop of the Cairngorm and there still appeared to be lots of snow coverage
