  1. The spell in 2005 was really very poor and a huge disappointment at the time I do hope we can do better than that this time ....
  2. It is great that they are at least talking about snow.....which might be disruptive...!!
  3. even better is cranking up the heating on the pool and swimming in the snow through the copious amounts of steam coming of the surface !!
  4. the major snow event in Feb. 09 which brought very heavy snow to London &. Home Counties was not frontal at all but easterly lake effect snow off the north sea..
  5. Still got power here in Cobham N Surrey , but definitely the wildest night of winter .... loads of small branches on the driveway - reckon the roads locally will be dicey ..
  6. Warwickshire was absolutely buried in snow in 87 and 91 on easterlies !!
  7. Odd flake shooting past window now it’s light but that’s it temp stuck at 1.6c so feels unpleasant in wind ...
  8. The complete absence of street lamps in Cobham not helping snow verification but it is 1.6c outside so reckon it’s sleeting at least !!??
  9. The local variation is amazing still raining here in Cobham but temp is down to 2.1c
  10. Actually you can 1-02-09 we had level 9” in central London with the Thames Clipper !!
  11. The Lake District is often not that snowy - I used to spend a week a month there for over 20 years until recently rarely snowed in Keswick , as I recall Ambleside / south of Dunmail Raise used to do better !!
  12. I am sat in departures at LAX just catching up with the drama before I fly home back to Blighty ... pls keep up the commentary surely the METO has to fall in line with the other two ..?
  13. Would have thought the rain might have warranted an Amber warning from Met. O? Not in Portinscale today but family say it’s pretty horrendous day and not improving yet...
  14. gusts of 80mph are not that unusual in the lake district ??
  15. 80 km an hour means and 130 kmh gusts just sound like a fairly normal autumn storm to me in the lake district !?
  16. I do wonder why people book to go to Caribbean in hurricane season ! i was caught in Wilma i Cancun in 2005 ad it was really awful - cancel and re book for January when the weather is perfect
  17. there are certainly worse things that could happen , the keys is no stranger to bad weather it is a very resilient community - the building on the ground floor are all open designed to let the water in and out !! - bit like how they build them in parts of cumbria now !!

  19. Last time I was In Cancun we had hurricane Wilma - truly horrendous !! I hope it stays fine for you ..
  20. i was working at heathrow that day - remember looking at the radar thinking it was broken, white / bright green blobs between the airport and maidenhead , we never closed the airport but it was very close leaks everywhere and concerns that a roof might collapse !!
  21. lucky enough to have both air con and central heating - more and more places have it in central London , mainly because of the UHI the nights can be so warm....
  22. Was a lovely day in Manchester today - back on train heading south and it's grim through the midlands !!
