  1. thanks for the insight - I guess the 60's were pretty poor for memorable summers then !?
  2. CET for July 94 was 18c which is high, funny how you remember stuff I don't recall it particularly remarkable at all .... Aug 97 was over 19c and I think is the forgotten hot month too !
  3. also just to be pernickety but I would substitute 94 for 97 in your list ! I was born in mid 70's so only going on hearsay !
  4. interesting point in that I feel that 1975 was the first really good summer for a very long time - I don't think any from the 60's entered folklore like say '76 did...?
  5. would love to see the John kettley one from jan 87 broadcast at lunch time Sunday as part of the farming show would have been the 10th jan I think...
  6. the 80's overall had 3 good summers 83,84 &89 which were pretty good nation-wide at times..... 85,86,87 and 88 were all pretty poor in-between the good ones though!
  7. Oh don’t post current observations or talk about the weather in here that would be silly ! It apparently shows a lack of insight and we can all just get the info of a website ! It is however windy here too in Surrey and now the sun has gone in so feels less spring like already !
  8. Great , thanks for getting us back to weather chat ! 5c here in Cobham sunny and breezy definitely feels like spring !
  9. Well here’s hoping - looks like it might have a bit of oomph ?
  10. Should stick dp are negative across whole region .. -4.4c dp here in Cobham
  11. Impressively cold again here in Cobham N Surrey max of 0c and started to drop slightly maybe an ice day which is really notable for time of year and location - just wish we could get even an hour of heavy snow....
  12. About a cm here so same as last time ! Impressive cold as it was below 0c from around 10am yesterday till presently . The Thames streamer never got going properly ala Feb 2009 ,uppers perhaps not cold enough ? Seems the really low 500 mb upper temps where to the north and you could see how heavy the showers were on the radar across the midlands.
  13. Very pleasant dry sunny late evening in Cobham topped out at 12.3 c pool temp still a bit low at 20c needs to be about 24c before considering a dip !!
  14. And many in the south east last time got very little snow ... there has been a northward shift if heavier snow and the convergence “twig” line on the fax which has the human input has gone ... so the snow risk for the south east is not as good as it was.
  15. Mmm the northward shift is taking London and SE out of the game - if I was up north would be feeling more confident -heavy disruptive snow across the conurbation looking less likely this morning
  16. Seems a fair description in relation to what the models are showing - a short less intense version of what many had at the turn of the month - the uppers and DAM values are higher this time round ice days will be a struggle with the mini beast for many this time round compared to the big beast. We might get some impressive low minima for the time of year though Sunday night if things go clear !
  17. Fair enough I thought the upper cold pool was Saturday night into Sunday morning ...
  18. It shows less cold uppers over a large swathe of south east at a time when previous runs have shown them to be much lower was hoping for better ! I can’t see sub zero maxima with uppers of -8 even if it’s cloudy esp as no embedded cold already
  19. That top chart with the 850s is a kick in the teeth for us snow starved Surrey residents - what happened to the upper cold pool with really low 500 mb temps ?
  20. it seems the build up is much shorter this time - we had about a week of cooler weather frosts at the end of Feb before we got the business end of the beast - now the met office cold warning is from Friday morning and its still relatively mild now when will we see the big drop in temp ? is it being driven by a dynamic cold front..?
  21. Any chance we could keep betting and horse racing in Cheltenham in the proper thread - I don’t come on here to be enticed into betting / gambling etc . Cheltenham is not even in the south east ! Just a thought !
