  1. Remember its all about the dewpoint

you have more chance seeing snow in temps of +4 & -1c dewpoint than if it was 1c T & 1c DP out-

As the band arrives the temps will drop- with us seeing a wintry mix before become more of sleet & snow as it moves through.

Overnight there is a band of sleet & snow swinging SE across wales into our area- this could well bring a covering.- track uncertain...

Yup, thats true regarding dew points.

It was 5C here in Manchester yesterday, and a dew point of -1C - it was snowing.

Today it's been 2C and -1C dew point and as i'm sure you have seen, Manchester Airport had to close for a time due to pretty much 3-5 hours of heavy snow.

    Dew points is key.

  2. Treacherous at best i'd imagine, Edale is effectively cut-off atm with National Rail trying to work on drifting across the line and the road blocked off from both north and south.

    Well that sounds like fun!

I'll be up there on Saturday :-)

    Many thanks for the update.

  3. This is Castleton taken last night, police have now shut the main road from Chapel-en-le-Frith over Rushup Edge due to the ice and dangerous conditions, Any road you can think of in the High Peak is either impassible, shut, or would take a great deal of time to get through.

What was Mam Tor like ? I go for my walks up there with the dog.

  4. Looking at the radar, looks like the wind is starting veer more NNW, pushing showers from further North rather than across from Ireland, maybe something to watch over the next few hours.

Wind Direction is actually around 250° at manchester which is WSW / W

  5. I will take this forecast from the met for the north west any day! We are all in with a shout...

    This Evening and Tonight:

A windy night with frequent snow showers pushing in from the Irish Sea giving accumulations to lower levels in places and more widely over higher ground. Clearer spells will allow frost and icy stretches to develop, especially away from coasts. Minimum Temperature 0C

Yup, looks like the NW is in PRIME position during this spell.

  6. Streamers forming - look at the one S of the IOM...!

    Also smaller area near Fleetwood.

    Ian

Yes, nice to keep an eye on that, looks more like a Manchester Streamer in this flow tbh - albeit it's not really a streamer yet, but time will tell.

Hopefully it is & develops through the night and could give *significant* snow, to low levels of course.

  7. Bit of a difference between a flurry and a good covering ; )

It looks good for cumbria and areas north of blackburn. But I wouldn't expect any significant amounts further south below 100m.

Considering its 4C and it's been snowing, it bodes quite well actually.

The showers don't really affect this area until later tonight and overnight either. 15m ASL :hi:

Enjoy your snow later... If it makes it ;-)
