  1. Morning LWH yeah the charts are certainly showing a cold plunge and a large blocking Greenland High. 1060mb on most runs. Hull could certainly see frequent snow showers feeding in of the North sea. As will most areas of East Yorkshire Northern areas of East Yorkshire will to, Sledmere, Langtoft , Octon, Fridaythorpe, Wetwang, The B1249 from Driffield to Scarborough. B1253 Rudston to Sledmere. Below photo from my dash cam 2018 Beast from the East. On the B1249 near Driffield.
  2. Wow 122 people currently visiting this topic. I can't add anything that's not already been posted. I'm moving onto the Yorkshire thread from next week to post and discuss models and shower activity there. Great 12z. Looking forward to the 18z to start rolling out. Keep lucky everyone.
  3. Sorry for the long post previous I'm having problems with my phone and Internet. Mods delete where necessary I'm truly sorry everyone
  4. North Yorkshire and Northern areas of East Yorkshire looking good for possible snow. Showers on Wednesday. Onwards. Scarborough to Driffield the B1249. And the B1253 Octon to Fridaythorpe always get blocked.
  5. Next Thursday could see a snow event for Central England and part's off Wales. To much to read and post in a good way. Well done everyone for your input today. I'm signing off with a cuppa coffee and a cigar. Goodnight all. Next Thursday could see a snow event for Central England and part's off Wales. To much to read and post in a good way. 6. I completely agree it's one thing been hungry but been cold is the worst, do you store a big bag of potatoes very versatile. Homemade mash potato an onion and a pack of reasonable mince beef and gravy, blooming lovely warms you through.
  7. To be honest I wasn't aware of that. Is it a payment from the Government or the energy supplier. I'm going to bring more wood into the kitchen at the weekend. Ready for next week so I don't have to keep going in and out opening the door and letting heat out, with the Met Office now mentioning snow and cold. It's time to gear up. Just put 4 winter tyres on my old Volvo XC70 AWD.
  8. I'm the same the price of oil is ridiculous. If I spend £10 on petrol driving around I'll get loads of wood , it's definitely worth it and the therapeutic effort.
  9. Yes that's the best way. Hawthorne seasoned burns lovely and hot and smells lovely too. I know what you mean about chopping wood and it being therapeutic, I'm the same. Then afterwards a glass of wine and a small cigar.
  10. You do right there's loads of wood lying around country areas around North Yorkshire. It's the equivalent of collecting £10 notes in my opinion.
  11. Bring your chainsaw and a twin axle trailer sorted for winter.
  12. Looking at the Current models Just took my old winter beast out of my garage. Good improvement on the gfs 06z I've got quite a bit of catching up to do on other models too My Internet signal is shocking up here today. I can't get passed T+192hrs.
  13. Morning all, gfs T+168 hrs, I know precipitation charts aren't that accurate. I would like to think something of a wintery mix to most areas on this chart. And cold at night under clear skies. That Greenland high is quite something. I'm trying to remember a year I've seen such a setup.
  14. Cracking post that well done good quality and very informative, thank you
  15. The chart below T+192 I would say even if the south doesn't get snow at daylight hours The temperature would be cold enough for wintery showers during the night in places and a keen frost. The 18z gfs still isn't a South Westerly. I can't really see anything overly mild tbh. I'm sure there's a more seasoned forecaster on here that would correct my post and I welcome a model run with a mild outcome. Keep lucky everyone and drive safely to work in the morning in fog prone areas.
  16. Seen some posts saying no snow for January absolutely hideous. We aren't even out of November yet.
  17. I live very remote with no mains gas supply just oil central heating and 2 open fires 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs , I only burn wood logs etc. There's a wooded area near me about 1 mile away, I go there with a chainsaw and chop up fallen trees and branches and load my trailer with wood. I also go out after high winds looking for fallen trees or branches, most years I heat my home for free, just the cost of a bit of petrol and time. Next week I intend to fire up my oil central heating. And sit in front of my open fire with a few glasses of wine and a cigar or two.
  18. Good evening all, how does a computer lose the plot, all most see is just a different model scenario from the gfs on the 12z. It hadn't lost the plot on the 06z why the 12z. Just observational and trying understand why a model will struggle with pattern change. Would it be because high pressure the Northern Hemisphere ie a Greenland high goes against the coriolis effect,.
  19. The BBC forecast I saw earlier, seemed to have a little trepidation about next week's forecast, at a time when people are worried about heating bills . The last thing they want to hear on the news is a bitterly cold weather forecast and a cold weather alert . But the stark reality is the charts are suggesting a cold Easterly,
  20. Morning all, on the 06z I see at T+222hrs a 1060mb Greenland high , I've posted the chart below to be different. Even the low pressure beneath the high has an Easterly air flow to it in part. I think I'm going to have to give my opinions now on the ramp thread I think a lot of people on here will be joining me.
  21. I've just put 4 winter tyres on my Volvo XC70 AWD. With over 40 years winter weather watching and studying as a child, I think we're in for random amounts of snow north to south. The winter tyres have cost me £487. So I hope it's worth the investment.
  22. It might melt through the day but possibly refreeze at night, lots going on to be honest, I would say even the seasoned forecasters are struggling a bit,.
  23. Good Morning all, a few people on here say the Models struggle with pattern change. Where can I find evidence of this.
  24. Morning all the T+228 chart below is interesting for a week on Tuesday, I know all to well the risks of posting charts past T+168hrs. Russia and Eastern Europe is cooling down significantly in 7 days to daytime temperatures around minus -12.C and with an Easterly air source forecast for the UK We could see some surprises if you like cold.. Not read a post yet mentioning the North Sea temps the North sea is currently is around 10.C. Combined with a cold Easterly later on would be very interesting. And snow amounts quite difficult to forecast. I aren't posting this as a definite forecast it's purely for observational purposes.
